  1. Leury's deal definitely felt like the club was looking to spend some good faith money prior to CBA negotiations. Kind of a shame it wasn't in the form of an Abreu extension. Teams seemed eager to put a little jingle in some vet's pockets. A few million burned when billions were at stake seemed more like an investment.
  2. Insecure? Judgmental? This entire board that you have 170k posts on is 99% judgmental taeks on everything White Sox. I made the post because I think people here don't really understand what Soxfest is (lines for autographs) and are really upset that it was cancelled because they think the organization is ducking the fans. I strongly disagree that this was the reason.
  3. I'd just like to point out that Soxfest sucks. There is no reason to subject our players to this. They don't need to fly kids from the DR into hell on earth (Chicago in January) to sign autographs for fat guys in fake Paul Konerko jerseys. It isn't good for business and is super awkward. Those great Q&A sessions where we get footage of a season ticket holder from Orland mispronouncing prospect names while yelling at Rick have like 50 people in attendance, 25 of which are lost. 99.8% of sox fest is weird people buying old bobbleheads and waiting 45 minutes for their third Harold Baines autograph because the Chicago winters are boring. I wish the Sox would have just said "Soxfest sucks, so do we, and we aren't doing it anymore".
  4. If Getz is given the job it will be spun that he is special and we were going to lose him to another organization. Under normal circumstances, having a yes man, who is bright and well liked seems like a decent option. This idea that you need a grizzled veteran coach that will essentially fight the front office and ownership doesn't sound like a winning strategy. Why not have everyone on the same page? But obviously, this is not normal circumstances and we are done with Jerry and the front office so literally the last thing we need is a yes man. Terrible.
  5. Holy hell. It would be painfully obvious that they interviewed the popular candidates and couldn't find anyone that they believed could coexist with their circus. I assumed Ron Wash was gaining traction because he is smart enough to know the situation and tell Jerry what he wants to hear in exchange for 5 or 6 million dollars. But If they have to resort to Getz to make sure their mess doesn't get blown up in April and outed in the media then we've definitely reached peak shitshow.
  6. Managers rarely walk away from the money. Dusty was hired as the safe, well respected veteran choice after the scandal. Odds are he was no one's actual choice and I can't imagine being a front office person trying to reason with TLR or Dusty. I think it is reasonable to expect the Astros would like to move on regardless of what happens this October. With that being said, if Dusty wins? Good luck not paying him. So, I personally think the opposite with the "Dusty with a ring walks away" taek. If Baker wins, he is going to want his 5 for 2 deal. If the Astros lose I think they can get away with shipping him.
  7. Wild take I can't believe I haven't seen mentioned yet: Jose went from Jerry's favorite to "out the door" because of his facial hair.
  8. I'm not defending the fake insider or the dumb fake trade rumor. I was addressing the idea that he should be non-tendered if not returning. I believe that Giolito is worth more than his arb number and shouldn't be non-tendered even in the event the Sox don't plan to keep him.
  9. Obviously the idea that they have to dump the contract is silly but in terms of a non-tender being the move, I disagree. I think most here would vote that Lucas is worth his arb number. If that is the case, in the event the Sox disagree, you'd think he would have some value to one of the other 20+ clubs that will spend at least 10 million on starting pitching this offseason. The slight control and value that the QO process offers is what seals the deal for me.
  10. I held for years thinking I was getting a once in a lifetime chance to buy the best of the best seats at what I felt was a comfortable price for 81 games. Comparable seats for Bulls, Hawks, Cubs, Bears are all grandfathered in and untouchable. That was dumb. If we ever went on a run the price of my seats would get jacked quickly to a price that I wouldn't want to pay for 81. Buy your tickets on the secondary market as you approach the ballpark. Never get that sinking feel in your stomach that you can't go to the game and didn't do anything with your tickets. Never give the tickets away to people that are grateful but you damn well know they don't fully consider that you handed them $200. I am much happier without season tickets. The only season tickets that make sense to me are the cheapest in the ballpark, thus always giving you the rights to the the least expensive seats regardless of how expensive they get. Or for the mega, mega, mega wealthy that don't care at all what they cost, ever, and just want the best seats.
  11. I'd have him go once through the lineup paired with Kopech and whomever the likely right handed 5th starter is. Use the sporadic April schedule to get Michael 2 days away from the 5th spot. The schedule won't be perfect but it won't be the end of the world for Crochet to skip an appearance and get the full 5 days rest every so often, and as the season progresses it is possible he is a match with other starting pitchers that are clearly not going extremely deep in games. Then use an opener if necessary but Crochet enters the game to face a good matchup, likely a 4/5/6 LH batter. Then he faces the lineup once thru and stays to face that good matchup a second time. Then Garrett exits. I strongly prefer this to him being a situational lefty reliever. This is the only real way to get him regular 40-50 pitch outings so he can get stretched into being a starter for 2024. I also think the data really points towards this is being future for all pitchers if the league doesn't step in and make rule changes to discourage it.
  12. I think from a sample size standpoint you can get way luckier with one spot in your bullpen than a corner OF. Most people are assuming any additions will be met with an equal financial subtraction, I know it is tough, especially at this point in the offseason, but it is likely the reality.
  13. Zach Muckenhirn, 720k. I'm saying DEPENDING ON THE BUDGET if it is necessary to clear money so you can buy a RF and/or 2B and/or SP.... you have extremely limited options. Trading Liam and praying that you can cover for 3 months until the deadline from within the organization or the veteran scrap heap seems like it could be the best fundraising decision.
  14. Why not sign Judge then? Why stop at 200M? Maybe if Jerry spends 250M we will reach league average in attendance and top 20 in eyeballs.
  15. I'm not saying actual Colome. It was just an example of budgeting.
  16. Not sure anyone is saying that. The debate is: Hendriks/Naquin or Colome/Nimmo? If you are trying to clean up some money to acquire a (RF, 2B, SP etc) there are very limited options.
  17. Is Liam Hendricks' value: Equal to his contract? More than his contract? Less than his contract? He's due 2/29. Obviously, he's been great and we are currently in "just spend more money" season. But what if the budget is maxxed? I wonder if having a highly paid closer is a luxury this current roster (as currently constructed) cannot afford, and he *might* be one of the few moveable contracts? Repurpose the spend, then possibly add a vet reliever at the deadline, where you are only paying for 40% of the bill? Seems reasonable to me.
  18. Angles not discussed: 1. The Sox didn't slap a QO on Rodon because they wanted to treat him right, which cost them a comp pick. But won't keep their mouth shut (this is absolutely free) and give Abreu some major leverage while he is negotiating his next deal? If all of this is true, Jose did something Jerry did not like. What could have happened to go from golden child to not even getting the respect of a no-comment until he signs? 2. If this was Over-Over, it likely was done by July, so why didn't we trade him? The Sox had a 1% chance of a World Series on deadline day. Or at least hear grumblings of him being available? Nothing will surprise me with our ownership and front office but neither of these situations make any sense, so I have a feeling this is not over yet.
  19. Ive been busy and not fully caught up but what could have happened to where the Sox wouldn't keep their hat in the ring (even if they had no interest in resigning him) for Abreu's sake? If this is indeed true, something happened between Jose and the Sox. This is a club that allegedly didn't offer Rodon a QO because they wanted to do right by him.
  20. I care, but not 20% care. More like 15%, but that isn't even an option anymore.
  21. The 35th Red Hots wannabe mob got me on Opening Day. Lot G was full and I knew it would take forever to get past the ballpark and back around so they waved me in for $50. I pull in and the guy tells me that is his last easy out spot so it is $100. I said no problem I'll be on my way. No worries, business is business but they immediately park a car behind me so the only way out is across the sidewalk for my "easy out". I roll out onto the sidewalk hoping someone will let me back onto 35th, when a cop walks up just yelling, he was not interested in hearing even one word of my story. I back up and it was time to negotiate. I think I had Southside Tony maybe convinced but all I had was a $100 bill so after that development there was going to be no change. He literally said "You shouldn't have parked here" while standing next to a sign that says "Park Here". After the game the car directly kitty corner to me had a window bashed out, glass everywhere. So, after a decade of rolling past the small private lots, wondering if they are worth the extra couple bucks.... that answer is a firm no. (No disrespect intended towards the church lot).
  22. Great post. Obviously, GM is a position that most would die for, but the big names tied to LAD, TB, HOU etc aren't coming to this situation. - A meddling owner. - Bad organizational depth, maybe the worst if you subtract every club's top 2 or 3 prospects. - Likely a shrinking budget. - Aging ballpark in a cold weather city where players might not want to play. - And the only money coming off the book is.... a club legend. Good luck with that.
  23. Laureano is a dead cat. Real dead.
  24. I think this recent TA trade speculation comes from fans who are just brainstorming what the Sox could do this offseason outside of running back virtually the same squad. The list of Sox players that are tradeable without taking a bad contract back in return is very, very short, and Tim is on it.
