Yep. The same people that want the Sox to commit huge money to long term deals... cannot fathom living with Yaz for another season. Hoping for a bounce back, but when you want to sign premium veteran talent, you are risking this kind of decline.

30 clubs. Most run by smart people. Many with even more financial resources. It is tough to win. If the Sox decided to zig when virtually everyone else was zagging... while it certainly wouldn't have been my strategy of choice, I would have accepted that. And it isn't like Hahn can come out and tell everyone what they were doing, it wouldn't be in their best interest to advertise they were bucking the trend. So maybe they tried? And it didn't work?

Hahn won three trades because the players that he drafted/developed sucked more than the players he received in return?

White Sox vs. Royals 8/22 1:10CDT (Kopech vs. Lynch)
GREEDY replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2022 Season in Review
The eye test was the ONLY reason Kopech was still pitching this season. Everything on paper says he should be shut down. WHEN THE EYE TEST FAILED they still let him stay out there and spot the Royals 4??? WTF IS GOING ON????? -
That guy steals memes and quotes and puts them on your mom's facebook feed. He had less than zero to offer. Laughable hire. That chart is misleading. It has more to do with how an organization labels their scouts and player development staff. The Sox are loyal to a fault so most of their front office staff have been there for awhile, prior to new hires getting fancy new-age analyst type titles. I will say for years at Camelback you could see a drastic difference with between the technology being utilized by the Dodgers and the lack of anything on the Sox' side. It used to make me so irrationally upset. As of this year though, we appear to be pretty well caught up. My gut feeling is they aren't as light years behind other clubs that the chart makes it seem.

How bad does your knee have to hurt for you to come out of a game after the batter before you got hit in the face, has blood dripping from his lip, pooling in the dirt at 1B? Eloy could stand, and walked off under his own power. Dude is a pussy. Hahn should be fired for guaranteeing Eloy, Robert and Moncada. I know 2 of the 3 had banked good money already but looking back I really think the complacency has to have played a role in their demise. Even if it just lead to them getting off the Latin Super Juice.

08/16: Astros at Sox. 7:10, NBCSN (CEASE V VERLANDER)

Was just trying to show the org how it could go. I can't believe more people aren't predicting or fake sourcing it since they did nothing at the deadline. -

Win tonight, Colas tomorrow: Pandemonium. -
I appreciated McGuire trying to beat the shift every chance he got. I did not appreciate McGuire trying to beat the shaft every chance he got.

Situational Hitting - runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.

Below average team speed. Below average fly ball rate. Below average want to sacrifice the plate appearance attempting the help the team. -
In the minors you can sit 2-0 / 3-1 and mash. He is often facing kids with the stuff and velo but in many plate appearances you can just wait for the perfect situation. The command obviously improves in MLB. That is what separates AAAA players from the real deal. I don't think you can really hash that out until you get to the show. Sure, you are risking his confidence but I'm not sure that changes for a 23 year old with him getting the remaining 75 plate appearances in Charlotte. I think they are brining him up because we didn't take a "free for the hauling" right fielder at the deadline. We were either so cash strapped that we couldn't pick up a few bucks remaining on a deal (and unwilling or unable to move prospect capital to cover it) or Hahn plans to bring up Colas IMHO.

If our chances continue to diminish, I wouldn't hate to see Yoan at 2B for the final 30 or so games. I know he struggled there and was instantly better at 3B, but I think his footwork looks much improved, elite for a 3B, and it never made a ton of sense to me on why he was so poor at second . A three man 2B/3B platoon for 2023 would allow Yoan to skip lefties, and take his seemingly required 15 day breaks. We also have a guy at AAA that might crush LHP. Not sure I can live with more defensive downgrades though. Burger has to get closer to average and I guess Yoan would need to be average or better at 2B.

Tim Anderson out 4-6 weeks with torn ligament in his hand

Our beat writers are horrible and/or compromised. -
Stone needs to turn on them then because not only did they hand pick Moncada, they decided to guarantee him all of his arb years in exchange for the right to pay him 25 million for one additional year. These extensions were universally celebrated but only made sense in a vacuum for a front office that was married to the players they acquired.

James was asking how the deals couldn't have gotten done. Both teams would have traded either player for the money remaining due to them and a "save face" nothing prospect or if they had to pick up the money then they'd want a real prospect in return. The Sox either weren't interested or didn't offer either the money or a player.
-
Money? I suppose if you are offering non-prospects and no money it might be tough to get it done? Because I'd assume that picking up the remainder of '22 should have been attractive to both SF and DET.
-
Nah. There were corner outfielders that we didn't have to give up any of those names for. Would anyone have been excited about them? No. Rick chose Sheets over them. He also probably chose not spending anymore money.
-
Colas is either coming up or Hahn was too concerned with the roster crunch (unwilling to send Sheets or a reliever down) to add a free OF rental. It is one or the other.
-
If you aren't trading Cueto, don't you try and get an actual corner OF? Even from the "free for the hauling" bargain bin? You are starting Vaughn, Pollock and Sheets tonight. That is possibly the worst defensive outfield of my lifetime.

Cub fans learning about compensation picks in real time is a fun watch.
