I disagree. Anyone drafted thus far all will sign for more than almost any 4 year education would cost. Nothing stopping them from giving it a go and then paying for school if that is the path they want to take. Hell, even the kids that get small bonuses in later rounds and forego school are often money ahead, because contrary to popular belief there are almost no full ride baseball scholarships. Signing for 100k and then going to an affordable school in your 20s is often much less expensive than a $10k scholarship on a 45k bill at a 4 year. Kids drafted sometimes as early as the 2nd round are looking at student loans, believe it or not. Really you are just measuring the intrinsic value of being a D1 baseball player on campus vs the intrinsic value of taking your stab at rookie ball and then likely being a normal student. What is broken with the current MLB draft model? That college seniors that are drafted are often painted into a corner with little to no options and below slot offers. Which then puts pressure on underclassmen to decide when to jump. I personally would love to see a non-negotiable slot amount per round.

Wake up Rick! 10 Day IL and another extended rehab stint. I see nothing that says he can help the team as-is and we need someone who can play LF for this series.

It's unfortunate but Ozzie is closer to losing his job right not than Tony is.

You are right, my bad, I definitely wasn't just generalizing the equivalent of a "usable" prospect, not a throwaway. To be precise I mean a top 14.7 prospect for our organization, top 25 for an average system, top 30 from a top system.
-
If you are personally bullish on those three guys vs their contracts then I guess you don't sell them. I feel all three are close to properly paid and if I could gain a Top 25 I'd do it. When the union decided once again not to fight for pre-arb players, and they still make 10% of what bad vets on 1 year deals earn... I believe that once again put onus on the system, of which the White Sox have the worst in baseball. They must fight to add depth anyway they can.

You can sign relievers this winter. You are trading the stretch run of 2022.

1. Cueto immediately. Sell high, I don't need to gamble to sell higher. Add a top 25. Maybe some high school pitcher from the 2021 3rd round or so. 2. Lynn. If we pick up the remainder of the 2022 money he should yield one real prospect. Hopefully top 10 (for our org). If you need another vet starter next season, get one in free agency. 3. Hendricks/Graveman. Do either have actual positive value above the money owed? Maybe if we pickup the remainder of 2022 money? If either can fetch a top 25... especially a young one, I think you do it. Can always add relievers next year if you are reloading. We need to add org depth, even if you are technically paying for it. 4. Abreu. If you aren't brining him back (and we shouldn't, unless you are trying to move Vaughn) he's gotta go. Pickup the the money and get something real. The return should probably come down to demand but I could see something useful coming back for sure. 5. Salary Dumps: Kelly: I'd eat 2022 if anyone would pick up 2023. Harrison: the money due and he's yours. Pollock: half the money due and he's yours. Leury: I'd eat 2022, if anyone would pick up 23/24. Yaz: I'd eat 2022 and a few million of 23 if anyone is interested. Guys I wouldn't trade: Anyone you have to sell low on. Yoan, Eloy, Gio. The only sell high candidate I wouldn't move is ReyLo. If he continues strong this year he will still be affordable in ARB 3 and you can roll the dice with him in the rotation next year or sell this offseason for more than he'd net right now (I think).

They were more right than I believed. I figured there was no way Hahn picks up the option unless they were keeping Kimbrel or if he had positive trade value. Instead he traded him for a player that had seemingly slightly negative value, that couldn't play RF or bat left handed. The only GM that dumb was our GM.

He traded Narvaez for a reliever who was on close to a market rate contract, during free agency when there were dozens of available relievers. Felt like a pretty big wash despite Colome having a babip lucky charm in his pocket. McCann was a bullseye, and definitely one of (if not the only) diamonds that he found because of all of the available opportunity here. But, I can't give Hahn an ounce of credit for anything surrounding Rodon. It appeared we let him essentially have borderline exploratory surgery not once but twice during his team control years after struggling with a dip in velo for two different extended periods, yet he always seemed unhappy with the organization. His usage in the wildcard game vs Oakland was bizarre, ill-advised and likely came from the front office and finally, whatever happened this offseason was inexplicable. Grading Graveman's three year deal 1/6th of the way through seems ill-advised. Cueto obviously has been an amazing addition.

* Flipped to MLBPIpeline.com and traded for the highest rated prospects from 7 months prior. * Outbid the universe for a mega prospect (Props probably belong to [gasp] Jerry) * Flipped to MLBPipeline and traded for the highest rated prospects from 11 months prior. Cease and maybe Reynaldo had "arrows up" next to their name when acquired. Giolito, Kopech, Eloy, Rutherford all were trending down when Rick traded for them. Hahn's greatest failure in the post Shields era was the lack of diamonds in the rough produced through 3+ years of open opportunity at the major league and AAA level. Aaron Bummer's extension his best move? Maybe jumping the market for Grandal? Neither move looking as strong these days. Honestly, with how weak the Central has been, and how much the club HAS spent, I believe the Hahn era has been an absolute failure. I grade it a D+ and it appears we are going to find ourselves in a very similar position to Dec 2016 where we have two or three positive contracts and a whole lotta meh.

My biggest takeaway was Yoan was going hard, trying to score on a double. He should have been 3/4 of the way or better and unfortunately misread it as a hit. Mistakes happen. The internet fan base has wanted to see some hustle and effort, he gave it to you. Engel should have been closer to 2B, watching it the whole way, if that gets down he scores easily, if not, he can tag up, easily. I blame him for not showing more composure but I can see how he could have gotten rattled on the play with Yoan barreling at him. For me, this play cost them the game but is not a systemic problem or the epitome of the poor start to the season. That was some can't predict ball at it's finest.

The people here and mostly elsewhere defending Colas because it is hard being a minor leaguer are mouth breathers. Accusing your employer of treating you live a slave is ridiculous. I hope the Sox trade him the first second an offer even close to fair comes along.

That is what we get for playing an actual outfielder in LF. This wouldn't have happened if we had a first baseman out there.
-
No reason he can't be a twice through the lineup guy. Or at least enter to face a lefty heavy portion of the lineup and stay to see them twice. Feel like that is the future of the game anyways, barring any rule changes.

Giolito's 12u hitting coach.

I assume most were willing to trade him in July if and when the playoff hopes fell below a reasonable rate (10%?). I assume most are willing not to resign him because at the time of the post you have about 5 players (Abreu, Vaughn, Eloy, Grandal, Sheets, maybe even Burger?) in the system for two spots 1B/DH, and only one of them was actually out of contract. Eloy? Right now he has none. He is worth significantly less than his existing contract. You'd be better off selling high on another player and gambling on Eloy.

Gotta be willing to sell Lynn right? Unless Hahn is particularly bullish on Lynn specifically, one would think they could get a Top 10 (our system) player and even more if they ate all of 2022's money. Then turn right around and sign 1 year vet starter as a replacement this winter.
