  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) Giants have a very hard schedule it seems, going forward. With 2 series still left vs the Cubs, those 6 (or 7) games could determine who makes the WC game. It's one reason I really hope the Giants trade for a #2 starter. Cain and Hudson have nothing left. The Cubs are currently 1-4 on a 10 game stretch against the 3 last place teams in the NL. Cue up the worst announcer in baseball, "It's not who you play, it's when you play them "
  2. Trout not in the lineup today, naturally Gillaspie takes his place in the 2-hole.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Shields helped the Royals turn the corner and Davis is a nearly unhittable bullpen piece, but I bet Dayton still regrets that trade a bit. A top rotation pitcher and a middle/back end type, plus a legit corner OF all at the league minimum. They probably wouldn't have had to made the trades they've made this past 3 days if it wasn't for that trade. They made it to game 7 of the World Series as a direct result of the trade. Dayton should have zero regrets for it. (Despite how silly it looked at the time)
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Hasn't history shown that deadline deals rarely pay off? KC did get Cueto and Zobrist, probably about as good as they can do, at the cost of 5 arms. If they don't win the WS, they pretty much shot their wad. Those 5 arms don't guarantee anything for the future either. You might as well go for it while you have the chance, especially with the randomness of the playoffs nowadays.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) just out of curiosity, where does Avi play if we get Cargo? Charlotte?
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) I still think Indy could and should do it. An awful lot of facilities already in place and wouldn't have to build a ton of stuff. I really don't understand why any city would want to host the Olympics.
  7. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) For all of this KW bashing and trading away prospects, who has he traded away that amounted to anything of significance? Gio Gonzalez is the only player that comes to my mind. Here's the recent deadline trades abd I don't see anything alarming at all. Maybe I am missing some trades but I don't see the Sox giving anything up of significance over the years. 2008: Griffey for Nick Masset and Danny Richar= nothing trade 2009: Acquired Peavy for Poreda, Rusell, Clayton Richard and Dexter Carter= good trade 2010: Edwin Jackson for Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg= nothing trade 2012: Brett Myers for Matt Heidenreich and Blair Walters Francisco Liriano for Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez= I do that trade everyday even though Liriano didn't fare all that well in Chicago. 2013: Peavy for Garcia, Montas, Wendelken, and Rondon too early to tell but looks promising. That has more to do with the lack of talent in the Sox system, then great trading by Kenny.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) On this board this winter when moves were made, one post I replied to said if there was ever a question who was in charge, that was put by the boards. Hahn was his own man. I actually pointed out trading prospects for a free agent to be seemed not unlike something that would be considered a KW move, but was quickly shot down. Hahn received a ton a praise all winter on here, and as soon as the team flopped, they flipped from Hahn acquisitions to KW acquisitions. If Rick Hahn has zero responsibility for any of the moves the past 3 seasons that have blown up in the White Sox face, then, if he had any pride, he would move along. That is simply not the case. Guaranteed contracts with lots of zeros tend to take precedence over pride.
  9. Wow, I love crazy baseball trades that appear to make no sense for either side.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) Some rumors the Cubs might be trading Castro for Shields Can't copy the tweets right now, but this is the jist of it. Matt Spiegel has a source who claims a deal is very close to being done. Buster Olney calls bulls***.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Kazmir has been better when looking at ERA, but dig deeper, and Shark has actually been better. Plus, c'mon, who would you rather have pitching for you in a must win game? Sort of a no-brainer to me. Tough call. Kazmir might walk everyone but Samardzija is more likely to get hit hard. Can I just trade them both for Chris Sale to pitch that game?
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) The Saints release Junior Gallette due to multiple incidents this past offseason. One year after signing a 4 year 41.5M contract and paying him 18M upfront And he went on quite the rant against the Saints and Sean Payton http://deadspin.com/junior-galettes-twitte...d-th-1720339378
  13. Bill Barnwell on Grantland ranked the top 100 players in the NFL. You can quickly guess how many Bears made the list. (Hint: It rhymes with hero)
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) The Padres appear to be doing to Shields the same thing the Marlins did to Buehrle. Buehrle was traded in his first season under his new contract before his contract escalated and now Shields is on the trade block. I can see why players try and get No Trades in their contracts. Shields was due to regress and I'm so glad the SOX did not go after him last off season. I would not be in the least bit surprised. That contract for a pitcher that turns 31 this winter does not sound like a smart investment and especially for a team with other holes to fill. The idea would make more sense if not for Danks salary which does not come off the books until after the 2016 season is over. Contender or not, I still hope the Sox trade Samardzija. Would prefer to trade Danks but, yeah.... And just like Buehrle, it's a majorly back loaded contract. Shields only gets $10 mil this season, but that jumps to $21 million per year for 2016-2018. That should limit their trade market unless they throw in major cash. He's also from the SD area, which is a double nut punch if they do trade him.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) Except the concept of a loyal, faithful fan base that can wait out a 7 year rebuilding process (anywhere other than Cubs, Red Sox and Cardinals) is pretty much non-existent. This theory will be tested with the Tigers if they go into a prolonged period of wandering in the desert with bloated payrolls and overpaid, injury-prone veterans. (Still, before 2006, nobody would describe the Tigers' fanbase as particularly loyal.) Have the Blue Jays and Mariners fans been loyal during this last decade? What about Colorado? Isn't this the 7th year of the Sox rebuilding process?
  16. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Their GM came out before tonight's game & said they are going all in & buying. Idiotic, I know. They have to go for it. Look at those contracts, look at their ages, the future is now.
  17. I assume Tampa, Baltimore, and Toronto have a lot of games left against each other. Unless they split them all evenly , somebody has to win a majority of those, which doesn't help.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) To me, the 2015 Twins = the 2012 White Sox. They'll fall off, it's just a matter of when. That offense is legit and is actually doing worse than 2014. But that starting rotation has a horseshoe stuck up their you know what.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Regarding LaRoche, I think we need to start playing him at 1B more frequently to see if that can help him get going. Worst case scenario it improves the defense a bit. And we definitely need to start platooning him. I don't care if that's a shot to his ego, but he should not be facing LHP under a normal circumstance. I've heard this mentioned a few times, and I find it frustrating. If he has that big of an issue with sitting vs. LHP, then he shouldn't have been signed in the first place. The team has a better chance to win ball games with him on the bench vs. lefties, if he can't accept that, especially at this point in his career, then buh-bye.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) If anything, this is good for the Cubs that they got swept. Nobody with a working brain thought they were really ready to win this year. This year is all about development for them. The last thing they need to do is to dip into their cache to chase a second wc. That is true. All this talk about a 5th starter, what they really need is more offense, but the guys that need replacing are part of their "plan", so they can't just be kicked to the curb.
  21. Zero walks from Rodon, that is great to see.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) After getting pounded by the worst team in baseball Maddon said you have to tip youe cap. You misspelled Francona.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Saladino on the Score now. Do young people in general just mumble because all they do is text? He's a ball player, not a politician.
  24. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 10:06 PM) Alex Rodriguez is still a Twins assassin. Hit 3 home runs tonight including one of the longest hits If ever seen, went to the 3rd deck in left center field. Awesome, I am rooting for A Rod all the way
