  1. What are the best brands of smoke/CO detectors? When we did our rebuild two years we got brand new Kidde monitors put all over the house and have already had two false alarms. Not just chirping cause of the batteries, but full on alarms, which are even more fun when a babysitter is there with the kids. I had to disconnect the hard wiring because then the whole house would be making noise and you had no idea which one it was.
  2. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 07:54 AM) Random question: Fiancé and I are heading to Vegas from O hare on united next week. Is there a way to change flights through United? We originally booked the 720 flight but are hoping to move up to a 530 Unless you paid for the more expensive fare class that allows you free changes, it will most likely cost you a change fee. You can always give them a call and give it a shot. Or the day of the flight, you can usually check online to see if there are open seats on the 530 flight. If there are, try to show up earlier and get on standby for that one.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) UA takes over MLB merchandise in 2019. You should have waited. I do applaud you for getting the real one, though, however. It beats those $30 counterfeit kind. The winter of 2018 will be the time to re-up on Sox jerseys. The NHL just switched companies and there were some major deals on Hawks sweaters this spring.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Brewers had a nice run, will end up in 4th in division likely due to a horrible pen They signed Feliz in the offseason but that didn't work out very well. Wasn't he a top 10 prospect at one point?
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) Our payroll will be like $40-50 million. Why do you think we wouldn't at least make a run at one of these guys? Harper is not signing a one or two year deal, it is gonna be more like 10 years. Just because the 2019 payroll will be low, doesn't mean you can easily load up for the next 10 years on one player like that, especially when your younger players will be getting raises. I'm not saying the Sox won't make a big FA splash, but there are so many other teams with deeper pockets, I just can't see them being the team to sign the largest FA contract in baseball history.
  6. This is the most intensity I've followed an at bat with all season
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) And I think people need to stop and think about what they are saying when they say "No FA like that is going to want to come to the Sox." As someone aptly said yesterday, "This is not your Father's White Sox organization." If enough of these guys pan out, and we've got a really talented young team on the field, I will ask the question: Why would Bryce Harper NOT want to come to the White Sox? Bryce Harper would NOT want to come to the White Sox because they will not be the highest offer he receives.
  8. There goes the #1 farm system ranking
  9. QUOTE (South Sider @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) Heard Tito Polo is indeed in the trade. Marco?
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) Tyler Clippard coming back He suddenly became bad, huh? He was solid forever
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) 1 element pushing #Yankees toward trades also is so many 40-man roster questions in offseason, can't keep them all, need to use few in deals https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/887491235706961920 But they are adding 3 guys that will use spots on the 40 man?
  12. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) What the hell do you do if you're the opposition against Betances, Chapman and now these two? Keep the bat on your shoulder vs Betances and hope he walks the lead away. He's been doing it a lot recently
  13. Edwin Jackson is back and on a playoff contender!! And he's still only 33 years old.
  14. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) You're right, my statement is garbage simply because the White Sox team, ownership and front office are garbage. Well the team is likely gonna be bad next year as well, the owner isn't selling, and he loves the front office. Gonna be tough sledding for you.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) I think the prospects guarantee the Sox a WS or two. I'm just saying as part of the process, you have to look at the lousiness of this season and tack on however bad the team is the next 2 seasons. I think the prospects make sense on paper and hopefully will star in the big leagues. That will be great if Moncada, Eloy and Robert rake the baseball to go with Avi and Abreu and Anderson hopefully having continued success. Well, everybody was asked to vote. I gave it a 2 because I have to combine the current misery with what is coming, which is a few WS titles according to the experts, which will be great. But now I say if you combine both factors the rebuild 'currently' is a 5. That's because the current team is that bad. Remember all seasons are equal. The WS seasons are going to be great. But these horrific seasons have to figure in the overall equation/grade. Well, my paying attention to the prospects is assuming they are great. They are mostly all rated very high, baseball people love them, so that's good enough for me. Now when they get to the bigs is when fans like me get excited and 'judge' them. I trust that the key pieces acquired are difference makers and WS are in the Sox future. I'm not saying the rebuild is going terrible BTW, I'm saying the current big league product is beyond horrific. I think that's OK for me to figure into the overall grade. The prospects Hahn have acquired all make sense and all figure to provide October/November baseball to Chicago hopefully for a 5-8 year window. What grade do you give the 2009-2016 seasons?
  16. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) Fairly strong last year I believe. Also to just give him the Yankees for salary relief. Now we're talking about eating a bit of cash to get someone like Andujar, Groome or Soto. I'll take credit for that one. When it was reported the Yankees claimed him off waivers, I didn't think it was a bad idea to let them take on his contract for salary relief, he wasn't gonna be on the next playoff team. Trading him for a good prospect will be a better result, but I have no regrets.
  17. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) Todd has picked a bad time to go cold. .130 .310 .348 last 7 games. Would love a hot streak I always wonder how much stock teams take into recent performance when making a deadline deal for a proven veteran player. Obviously, you watch him perform, make sure he doesn't look injured or anything, but you only get what he does for the following next 2 months, not what he did in the past. If Frazier hits ten homers from today until July 31, would it change his value in teams' eyes that significantly? Just the law of baseball averages and regression would tell you that he's not gonna keep hitting homers at the pace or anything similar.
  18. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) They don't play in the same league, they don't share the same fans. They play six times a year, and VERY rarely are both teams good during the same season. The Cubs seasons have no bearing on the White Sox (not withstanding this latest trade ) When the Sox are actually competitive, I give the Cubs very little thought aside from the six times the Sox play them. I can't say that about the Twins, Indians, Tigers, etc. They do compete for some fans though. When the Sox rating and season ticket base skyrocketed in 2005 and 2006, do you think those were all hardcore Sox fans? I doubt it, I guarantee a lot of these new arrivals are decked in head to toe Cubs gear today. And the fans they don't share are what can help create the rivalry. You might not give the Cubs much thought, but a lot of other fans do, as this board shows. When you have two teams living in such proximity, a rivalry just creates itself, when there is so much interaction between fans. It's a different type of rivalry than a divisional one, but it's definitely there. (And this has nothing to do with the trade, I fully support it, just arguing semantics )
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:14 AM) I am not a prospects guy. I like proven players, though not many hitters are truly elite and not many pitchers are truly elite any more. That said, a lot of you are prospects people so I ask you, since so many gave the rebuild a 9 or 10 in this thread: Taking all the talent the Sox have acquired into consideration and assuming we keep Abreu around as well as Rodon and Anderson ... can you assure me 1 to 3 World Series appearances only taking the guys we acquired and our homegrown minor leaguers into consideration as well as the fact the Sox are sure to get some more good prospects for David Robertson and maybe Melky? Can you assure me 1-3 World Series appearances and/or WS titles? I gave the rebuild 2 so far cause I need proof and I am not a prospects guy. Nope. You can't assure a single WS appearance for any team, not the Astros, not the Cubs. If you watch any of the baseball postseason, you would know this. It's about getting to the postseason as many times as possible, because the playoffs are a crap shoot.
  20. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) The Cubs and Sox aren't rivals. Of course they are rivals, how is that even a debate? It's different than the Yankees/Boston or Cubs /Cards, but there is zero question that there is a rivalry. It may be solely created by the fans, but that's how sports work.
  21. That would be the worst taunt in the history of taunts.
  22. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) Beane says A's are going into full rebuild mode for the first time in his tenure. Unfortunately for them, they do not have a lot in the way of present assets to trade away for prospects. Scouts reportedly not big on Gray post-injury. Quotes saying that he is still a nice pitcher, but not the ace he was. That's funny, it seemed to me they were in perpetual rebuilding mode.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) I can't find where this is calculated on a public page, but he's got the worst run support of any pitcher in MLB since 2013. Until the Blue Jays game, he had the worst run support in baseball this year. It's not even about the averages, although the White Sox's offense has been bad. For him...it's been "Amazingly" bad. Like "something really weird and 9 sigma outside the margin of error so not statistically random" happened when he was on the mound. Still waiting for evidence why it would improve with a different team with a similar offense.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) Don't miss the 3rd one I mentioned - Run Support. He got 6 runs scored for him today. He no longer has to worry that every pitch must be perfect. Cause the Cubs had scored all of 16 more runs than the Sox this year. So much run support...
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) Trevor Bauer is another guy I wish the Sox would go after. While they tank sure, but want nothing to do with that weirdo when they are trying to compete
