2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Wow...crushing Orlando without Rose. Lucas with 20 points in 19 minutes. Dude can be hot/cold but he can score. Reminds me a bit of Jannero Pargo. Zero defensive abilities and he can be very hot & cold but when he's on, he can be a nice guy to have on the back of your bench to create a spark-plug. Lucas actually has the ability to create his own shot though (sometimes). If I remember correctly, didn't Pargo shoot nothing but 3s?

QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) The Bulls just beat the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams in the Eastern Confernce without Derrick Rose and Rip Hamilton. Also, congrats to Thibs on becoming the fastest coach to 100 wins in NBA history. Unfortunately, the haters who said D-Rose didn't deserve the MVP last year will point to this stretch as if he's somehow not that important to the Bulls' success.

2012 Video Game Thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) That's crazy to me. You don't even use it for Netflix or MLB.tv or any other apps? I guess if you don't have those services, it's moot. But I love watching movies in Blu-Ray. Planet Earth and Life are incredible looking. MLB.tv on PS3 freaking rules. It's got a longer delay (since it's so high in quality), but it's literally like watching an excellent HD feed of the game over your internet connection.

2012 Video Game Thread
QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) Sorry, but I have played both The Show and 2K this year and they are essentially the same game with The Show having much better graphics.. I dont really care what the game looks like, am I having fun playing it is much more important to me and The Show was not a fun game to play at all.. It may be because of my awesome giant TV, but I dont know that for sure.. All I know is, I want to have fun playing any game and The Show was not fun to me.. If 2K looked like The Show did, it wouldnt be so lopsided in popularity.. I really dont care though as I get everything I need for my baseball fix from 2K without having to play The Show and want to rip my ball hairs out in the process.. Now the only thing I have left to do is figure out what to do with this piece of s*** PS3 that FoP made me buy and is now just collecting dust under my TV.. The biggest difference is that the Show feels like baseball. I've played 2K10 extensively, I've also played 2K11. Those two games couldn't even come close to the Show in terms of gameplay and attention to detail. I don't imagine that 2K12 is all that different. IMO, the only thing that 2K has on the show is presentation (especially broadcasters) and better pitching controls. It can't touch the Show in terms of anything else.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) I enjoyed Bill Simmons take on it: Bill Simmons @sportsguy33 Working against him: they've seen him play. MT @ESPNSteinLine: Source says Bulls are right at top of Derek Fisher's wish list. Isn't Derek Fisher literally dead? I seriously hope the Bulls have negative interest.

2012 Video Game Thread
QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) T R U is a poster here on soxtalk. I do zone hitting. and pretty much all i do is guess pitch fastball inside. If the ball goes anywhere else i won't swing unless its really close. also on counts where i have two strikes, ill use the circle button to fight off pitches until i get the pitcher to toss one in the zone I'm sitting on. if my guess pitch zone indicator doesn't light up ill shade the batters eye to the right of the strike zone since i obviously know the pitch isn't coming inside. ill only use the power swing if i guess location and pitch type correctly, this has led to most of my HR's. any other situation i use the X button to hit. hope that helps a little, getting your batters eye and having an understanding of when a pitch is going to be too low is huge. When the game first came out i was trying to dig out pitches headed for the dirt all the freaking time. This is probably the best lazy strategy for hitting in the Show. They've made sure that you don't do this with success in recent versions. I remember back in The Show 07 and 08, I'd guess fastball low almost all the time. Then on a hitter's count, I'd guess fastball up and crush the s*** out of it. That no longer applies to this year's version, unfortunately.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) Yes, I did trade in The Show for MLB2K12.. The Show was terrible and I cant believe I got suckered into buying it by FoP.. Plus, MLB came with NBA2K12 as well and im loving that game so far.. I dont get how you guys can like PS3 so much.. its so inferior to XBOX its not even funny.. You have to wait for long loads whenever you put a game in the PS3 (Yawn) the dashboard is clunky and poor to navigate.. the controller is too damn small.. You cant talk to anyone when you are playing online.. The bluray is pretty damn nice though.. Blasphemy. I stopped after one year of 2K. That game just doesn't feel like actual baseball.

Get drunk in 2K12
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Last night was my first real time drinking at Kams, I don't remember much. Oh god... I've vowed to never enter Kam's, even though I live right next to it, which oh BTW sucks badly. I can't sleep until 2 AM.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) Only the dumb ones. I can be a tad perturbed at the price paid for Nick Young, but whatever. Nick Young's a chucker who can't play D, but it still would have been nice to have him, especially at the price LAC paid.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break...0,2344264.story Just like the Lakers. Bat sh*t crazy. There was no way the Bulls were going to trade Noah + Taj + picks for Gasol. That's straight up murder. Noah's actually been more productive this year than Gasol. In fact, Noah's been one of the most efficient players in the league this year according to WS/48.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) They're in desperation mode. They are completely f***ed now that Howard is staying in Orlando. Deron will likely bolt to Dallas this offseason, so they bring him in to upgrade from Stephenson. It's not a great move, like I said, they're now talented enough to grab a playoff seed (if they stay as constructed for next year, which is doubtful, because Deron will be gone. Deron/Farmar Brooks/Morrow Wallace/Green Humphries/Green Lopez isn't awful, (though scoring down low will be quite easy for any team). That looks like a pretty solid lineup on paper.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 11:45 PM) Call me crazy, but unless Dwight agrees to come here. DO NOT BREAK UP THIS TEAM. They're special and they as a team earned the right to go at it themselves tonight. You trade a guy away you risk ruining the entire chemistry that makes this team awesome. Edit: And if they lose as this team I will not be upset. I think this is the first time in my fandom that I'm attached to players as much as the colors on the jersey. No, please trade Boozer. He was so f***ing worthless.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 11:16 PM) I think Spoelstra is given a script to follow each game. -pre-game interview, mention cliche basketball words like hustle, passion, power -sideline huddle talks to players, cliche cliche cliche talk about hustle, driving, staying together -blown calls, pretends to glare at refs, throws jacket back to show how angry he is, mutter, shake head Every game I see him I will give him one thing though, he's great at calling time outs to slow down the other team's momentum. He also calls a lot of TOs after an and 1, which can possibly ice the FT shooter a bit.

So how long until the Heat stop playing like crap and start cutting this lead down to single digits? There's no way JL3 will keep hitting these shots.

Sabermetric Fantasy Baseball
QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) if it's sabermetric why the HBP? how is that at ALL in the batter's control? kind of silly for fantasy. rather have OPS or something like that. also, K/9 instead of K's is a much better stat. You can't just stream them. It's not a category league, it's points head to head, so K/9 is not really possible to do... Plus HBP is counted in OPS, wOBA, etc. A lot of fantasy leagues also count RBIs and Runs, but those aren't really totally the batter's doing either.
