KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Mac called out Cowley for not talking about the hire, instead focusing on Guillen's crap.... again I love how Cowley is digging his own grave.

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) "cooper was fighting to save his own ass" Yeah, they were totally going to fire the most successful coach on the White Sox staff. Cooper's been a huge part of whatever success we've had in the past decade, but yeah, he definitely needed to have his ass saved.

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) "as a journalist, my job is to tell the truth"... then went on to say since he was "cut off" from one side, he told the "truth" from the other side. It's not true if it's distorted. The idea of journalism, or writing in general, is to get both sides of the story. If you only have one side, that's bad journalism. You might as well stop writing.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
So does anyone know anything about Ventura's mindset as a manager? Does he play small ball, does he favor statistics, is he somewhat in between? Or is he such a WTF hire that nobody knows?

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) Cowley said Cooper pulled him aside several times a few years ago to ask him to write that the coaches need extensions. I wonder when a few years ago was.

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) If the rumors are true, Kenny did try firing Ozzie, but Jerry wouldn't let him. The more all this stuff leaks out, the more I think JR was a major reason why we wasted $127 million this season.

The morning after poll
If anything, the hire just means we aren't winning or spending big anytime soon. If we're going into rebuilding mode, it's not a horrible hire. But still, there were better candidates out there who I can make a better judgement about right now.

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
Cowley is following in the footsteps of Mariotti in perfect fashion.

Run this unprofessional embarrassment out of town. Coop and now Kenny. Looks like he will have zero sources from now on. Although it's not like he had many to begin with.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Amazing column by Cowley. Wow. Cooper was THAT MUCH of a snake? Wait til the players read this. Horrible joke of a franchise. I just knew KW was sucking up and this proves it. And Cooper? The people who have said what a rotten personality he has? This just makes sense he'd look out for No. 1. I LOVE Ozzie's text to Coop. It's Ozzie's way of letting him know bout Judas. If this is true, Cowley deserves a sports Pulitzer for the scoop. And to think I today was thinking Coop deserved the job over Ventura. Coop sounds like he may ruin the clubhouse next year when this story is made public to the players. Nobody likes a backstabber. Nobody! Everybody was killing Cowley. Then this post comes in... You know, the change of pace is somewhat nice. But we all know Cowley's an absolute joke.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) Gonna combine sabermetrics and scouting(wow, there's an idea)! I guess that's better than what Ozzie did.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Steve, Maybe its because some of the most famous baseball managers were "player managers." I think its interesting (insert stupid) that people dont want to research the fact that there is almost 0 correlation between MLB managerial experience and success at the major league level. I think its interesting (insert stupid) that people dont believe Robin can be a good manager just because he hasnt been a coach. Whatever the facts, I really cant imagine anyone creating a good argument that MLB manager is harder than NBA/NFL. And thats the comparison. The problem is that we know absolutely nothing about Ventura as a coach/manager. We'd at least like to get a freaking idea.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 12:06 AM) Yeah, tell me about it. Girls on Facebook saying "Thank you Steve Jobs! If it wasn't for you inventing the iPod, we would still be listening to CD players!". Oh really? Because I am pretty sure Mp3 players were around well before Apple starting making them. I think she meant "Thanks for making this shiny device that I can buy as a status symbol and allowing me to purchase things purely based on brand name and nothing else. Shopping made easy!" He did a lot, but he didn't do everything, and he certainly didn't do it alone. And him dying isn't going to cease the advancement of technology, I assure you. Yeah seriously. Thanks for setting a high price point for all the latest technology.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 11:08 PM) There have been wayyyyy to many statuses about this, it's amazing how people just can't resist saying "Apple sucks" whenever they get a chance. The thing I don't like is that all these people are making it look like Steve Jobs did EVERYTHING associated with Apple. Sure, embrace the guy, but come on. Some guy said he wouldn't be able to listen to the music right now if it wasn't for Jobs. REALLY?

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Not even just that...before Apple there was no concept of a "personal computer." A computer was something businesses and governments and astronauts needed, not schoolchildren. IBM was first to the party with PCs. http://oldcomputers.net/ibm5100.html But you're right, Apple did really bring the experience home. Although somebody would have done it later.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) RIP Steve. Thanks *Posted using a Mac I'm surprised this thread hasn't blown up with posts this, because my Facebook is filled with them. I'm not going to state my opinion on the man, because it's simply too soon. But RIP nonetheless.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) I can't believe grown adults, people I respect on here, still think that Ozzie should have benched Rios and Dunn. It slays me. You are gonna be just as frustrated with the new manager when he plays guys who make the loot. So if they hit .160 and are ALREADY costing the team $12 million, they should suck more and cost the team even more in value? Huh?

Trade Advice
I've been offered Desean Jackson and Maurice-Jones Drew for Calvin Johnson. My team is lacking a #1 back and I have a boatload of #2 and #3 receivers (Colston, Maclin, Henderson, Manningham). I had Jackson on my team last year and he annoyed the hell out of me. One week he'd put up 25 points, then he'd put up 2-3 the next. Any suggestions?

All Managers are the Same
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) I appreciate the long post. I disagree with some of it, but I don't think you or anybody else wants me to reiterate my position on Ozzie. It's more of the same. If u have a specific question I'll respond. I mainly get a kick out of the postseason cause normally the games are close and when a team loses, the team's fans can squarely point at some managerial decisions. I laugh cause I hear it all year about Ozzie's decisions, but now that everybody's watching these games, I get to FINALLY hear people bag on managers not named Ozzie. Lots of bad decisions cause when u lose a game you can always second guess the manager. I rarely second guess Ozzie. I usually make my mind up about things before the fact and I'm sure a lot of the posters on this board do as well. If Ozzie brings in Will Ohman to face 3 right handers I know that's going to be a bad move. Even if it works out this time, the probability of it working out the next time is relatively low. And I don't think anybody was "bagging" on Manuel for not taking Lee out. My roommate is a die hard Phillies fan and he blamed Lee more for sucking, which he kind of did.

Top 10 Prospect list
QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 12:22 AM) Seems foolish to write him off at this point regardless. Lets say he never develops serious power, seems like people are still assuming he won't develop any more plate discipline either? Having a guy that can be Alcides Escobar isn't all bad. But if your top prospect's ceiling is a 2 win SS, that's pretty damn bad.
