Cast Your All-Star Ballot

Cabrera's having a nice offensive year, but Alexei's better on D.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) So e3 is next week. Any thoughts? All eyes are on Nintendo since they will be the first to delve into the next gen with a full unveiling of their Project Cafe. Sony's next portable will finally be unveiled as well. Those are the two big things, of course. But we will also see a new Zelda title (as well as more on Skyward Sword) and more on Modern Warfare 3. Most all else is being held quite to the chest. Microsoft looks like they will focus on Kinect, which will make their conference boring. Sony will be doing a lot of apologizing. That new Nintendo console will probably be a bit more powerful than the PS3 and 360. Nothing more. Nintendo always tends to lag behind in terms of processing power. That's been the case the past two generations.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) Voting needs to be taken the f*** away from fans. Alexei isn't even on the top 5 list for SS. That's tragic. The best SS in the AL is getting beat by the likes of Erick Aybar and Yunel Escobar. Not to mention Derek Jeter.

Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) How are you quantifying "Little movement"? You're correct on his average velocity, however, I'm not sure how I can quantify movement. For example, I just picked Roy Halladay as a guy who I think has a lot of movement on his standard pitches, and checked the standard fastball movement (not his 2 seamer). For the standard fastball, Halladay's pitch breaks 4.4 inches left and 5.8 inches down. Humber's fastball breaks 6 inches left and 8.8 inches down, so if nothing else, relative to his release point, Humber's fastball actually moves more than Doc's. I'm happy to concede that I'm not reading these numbers right and there's something else to relative release points that I'm not understanding, but please, quantify your little movement part for me. Pitch f/x slays all eye test arguments.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) Nice memory. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...ours_to_go.html I wish we could have got Masterson, would have saved the Sox some embarrassing games against him. Masterson's a good pitcher who will keep getting better. You gotta wonder about his health though, his mechanics are sketchy on the elbow. With the win today, the Sox are 18-12 against teams above .500. 9-19 against teams under. It makes no sense.

Jackson would accept move to pen
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) E-Jax to bullpen = epic fail for KW. Meanwhile, Dan Hudson is helping that D'Backs team to first place in the NL West. I never understood how Edwin Jackson was worth a top 100 prospect.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Man, Paulie is 2nd in the AL in RBI. He's a monster. Having Alexei's nice OBP in front of him sure helps those numbers. Now that Quentin's hitting third, it should help even more.

White > Red - SOX SWEEP
Looks like that Ozzie rant worked.

Jackson would accept move to pen
Edwin currently has the highest pitching WAR on the entire team right now. One of the reasons his ERA is 4.63 is because he has a .350 BABIP against him. His FIP and peripherals are excellent. I would totally relegate Danks to the bullpen if there are no consequences that we will have to deal with a year down the road, but I don't think sending Danks is an option right now, as bad as he has been.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) Dunn is strong enough to sit back on the knuckler and flip it off the monster kind of like hitting a softball. Or swing so hard he'd fall over. I think the Sox, especially Konerko, have had pretty good success against Wakefield in the past.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) Who we face on the home stand: Tigers- Oliver, Verlander, Penny Mariners- Pineda, Hernandez, Vargas A's- Cahill, Gonzalez, Anderson, Outman Sign me up for 6-4 now, I'll take it. 5 lefties, plus Verlander, Pineda, Felix, and Cahill...good luck, Dunner. We're not hitting Verlander. That Seattle series will be rough, Pineda's just as good as Felix right now. The Sox are one of the only AL teams to not have much trouble against Cahill.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) It's a damn shame that such a crap sports town got so many talented players based on the party location. The fact that Game 1 isn't even sold out yet is pretty maddening. Florida is a bad sports state in general.

Sox vs BoSox Game Thread 5-31-11
If only the Sox won that last game in Texas or the third game in Toronto. This would have been a pretty good road trip if that was the case. They still have a chance to make this a decent trip with a win tomorrow though.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) Stuff became the problem with him after be blew out his elbow. Good curve, but otherwise, the rest of his stuff is either below or at best average. He woulda been nasty though if he could still throw that heater in the high 90's. He used to throw in the high 90s? I thought he was at best a mid 90s guy when he got drafted?

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) If we choose to keep him, he is under our control for 2 more pre-arb years, correct? Yeah. You have literally nothing to lose. See what he does next year.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Before we all get ahead of ourselves, again, he only has 1 year of service time. Do we even have to worry about locking him up? Absolutely not.

Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) Jose was good for a year and a half. Loaiza for one. Remember how giddy everybody was after we locked Contreras up after '05? Then by '07 everybody wanted him traded for a Miller Lite. Loaiza was only here for a year and a half and he was pretty good for most of that. Contreras was solid for two years and I felt like he was more or less a victim of bad luck from 07-09.

Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) But its not unprecedented, Humber also has had significantly less opportunity. Hes only pitched 111 innings, and 60 of those are this year. Quite possibly he could have done well had he been given the chance. Its not like we are talking hundreds of innings of bad results, hed only had 2 starts before this year. He was given the chance pitching against worse talent and he was pretty bad. I don't think it's a smart idea for this organization to put any good amount of confidence in Humber beyond this season.

Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Where did anyone say he was a sub 3 era pitcher? You made comparisons to players that failed, when you can just as easily point out guys who have gotten it before the turn 30. No reason to always look at the negative side, so I presented the positive side. Jose Contreras was pretty successful here in Chicago if you ask me. Loaiza too.

Wow, Humber. You fo' realz?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) For years? No. I can't see that. He's basically on what Loaiza/Contreras were on. I don't think Humber is a guy that can do this for the next 5 years. But ride his ass as long as he's hot. He looks like a one year wonder to me too and I was actually semi-optimistic about him going into the season.

Humber's lucky he didn't give up more runs this inning.
