  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Holy s***! Ethier has been hot garbage since he came back from the DL on May 31: .234/.295/.365/.661. Mark Kotsay is even laughing. Ethier's WAR: 0.7 Ethier's UZR: -16.3 He's not much better than Carlos.
  2. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Cowley was just on Boers and Bernstein saying that KW is still working on something huge and totally under the radar. Bernstein was trying to figure out who that could possibly be, and mentioned this scenario: Edwin Jackson would go to the Nationals, Dunn to the Rays, and Carl Crawford to the White Sox. Talk about a sleeper... If Kenny Williams landed Carl Crawford, I'd smack anyone who ever said anything bad about him ever again. I would love him long time.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Ethier and TCQ on the same team would be insane. We'd bludgeon teams to death. And their horrible defense would give away a lot of runs away.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) He's been one of the worst every day players in baseball this year. He's worse than Mark Kotsay.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) His last 5 seasons Carlos has hit above .300....the guy wasn't that far off. What he didn't realize is that Carlos Lee is getting old and regressing. Plus, he is owed around $35 million over the next two years. You're asking for disaster by saying he should be traded here.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Bernstein is such an arrogant jerk. But that caller kind of deserved it... Carlos Lee's always a .300 hitter - no he isn't.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Here is what fangraphs says: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/t...os-perspective/ Interesting that they believe Jackson will be worth $10mil on the open market. That's because Jackson is a 3-3.5 WAR player. That's worth around $12 million in WAR dollars.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) How does fangraphs rank all of Jackson's pitches? I know scouts were raving about his slider to start last season. Jackson's best pitch is his slider. He was +18 last year. +3 this year.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) Ugh, hearing that Yanks won't give up any premium prospects to get Berkman really frustrates me. And this is when the reputation of our farm system screws us.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Anyone know how an out of towner can listen to this?? 670thescore.com
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) You're seriously underestimating Mark Kotsay. Or I'm underestimating Ozzie's ability to put him in the game.
  12. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) I thought it was you who put his xFIP and FIP up at sub-5? Maybe not. Anyway, I was referring to his brief period of greatness as the first half of last year. A half-season ain't chump change, it's definitely enough to firmly declare that he has the ability to succeed. He also had some phenomenal periods in TB. I think our pitching coach is superior to either of those two guys, and I think there's a decent chance that he succeeds with us. Yes, it's still a chance, and that's what makes it a gamble. But it's a gamble I think could pay huge dividends if it succeeds. Much bigger dividends than keeping Hudson in our system. I'll put it this way: you have Coop in a room with one young player. Would you rather have him sit down with the guy with great stuff and mediocre command or mediocre stuff and great command? You can't make a middle-of-the-road arm a great arm. You can make crap control good control sometimes. That was me. I have no problems with Edwin Jackson's talents. If anything, he actually has upside. I have an issue with what we gave up for him and how much we'll have to pay for him.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) Jax was not Good nor great last year. Edwin Jackson put up a spectacular set of numbers in the first half of last season based on putting up a .249 BABIP. His BABIP, as we always say it does, regressed towards his career mean of .315 in the 2nd half. In the first half of last season he put up an ERA around 2.5, in the 2nd half he put up an ERA of 5.07. Edwin Jackson's terrible 2nd half was key to the Twins taking the division from the Tigers last year. Hell, he was on the mound for Game 162 and the White Sox shelled him. He's putting up an ERA >5 this season in the National League for a reason. And it's not because of his BABIP. I think that was game 161.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) And how many LOB will Kostay have! None, cause he ain't playing.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Dude, I'm angry about this deal too, but this post serves zero purpose other than to insult Jenks. We don't want that. My bad. I probably could have put that in a different way.
  16. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) lol We can go with that story but we all know greg is busy hugging DeWayne Wise. He really wanted to hug Bobby Jenks, but unfortunately, he realized that most Soxtalk users were right when they said Jenks was fat.
  17. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Wrong, you OFFERED me a cyber hug and I refused.. I would only accept a cyber hug from Greg He must have cyber hug raped you then.
  18. From Bowden's Twitter: Bill Ladson reports that if Adam Dunn is traded that he thinks it will be to the Chicago White Sox
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) Yes, they are. Great stuff, yadda, yadda. Performance does not back it up. Edwin didn't go from Tampa to Detroit to Arizona to us because he's really good. Jackson's still young. When we got Javy, he was nearing his 30s. I'm in no way defending this deal, but I don't know if that's a great comparison.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) From a Nats beat writer: Adam kennedy at 2B for Nats tonight. Dunn still on lineup sheet in clubhouse less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® =O Hmmmmmmm
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) Guzman may have been moved to make way for Morel. Most scouts think he makes a better 2nd basemen. If Morel and Ejax are going for Dunn, I'd be pissed.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) Somebody needs to pull up some old Javy threads. I can't believe people are supporting this abomination of a trade. These two aren't THAT similar.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Sale next year? Yeah, I can imagine a garage sale by the time the trade deadline comes.
  24. The offense better be ready to kick some ass.
  25. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Stone says that Washington views Jackson as a closer. The more I hear of the Nationals' ideas, the more I think Rizzo is a complete idiot.
