Red Sox maybe not desperate for a SS
I would jump for joy if we can get Okajima, Bard, and Ellsbury. Seems kind of unrealistic.

This picture is weird.
Wow, that's gold. Seriously, why can't MLB.com hire some people who are good at Photoshop? That's atrocious.

Wise to Philly...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Wise was done in Chicago the moment Ozzie laid eyes on Mark Kotsay. This proves that Ozzie is not racist. Let's hope to god that Kotsay hits as well as he did with us last year.

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) I don't know why fans are so fixated on this deal. Jones won't get more than 200 plate appearances and he shouldn't. He may play the OF once every couple Sundays, but it's not gonna be often. The Sox just aren't counting much at all on Jones and the size of their offer proves it. He's making less then Dwayne Wise did last year. Will you count on him if he puts up a .390 wOBA like he did until August? Jones had a hamstring injury in August and sucked for a while. At one point, he was hitting .250 with an OPS near .900. He was an absolute force for 3 months last year in Texas. There's still some hope that he can be a decent platoon DH.

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Atleast the Sunday lineups will be a hell of a lot more fun. Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I heard about this signing was Jermaine Dye signing with the White Sox for the first time. Dye was 2 years younger, but went through a similar transgression - .792, .514, .793 from 2002-2004, and then he came back with an .846 OPS for the Sox and was very solid beyond that. Jones has put up .724, .505, and .786 over the previous 3 seasons. I'm not going to predict an .850 OPS over 550 plate appearances, just noticing the similarities. I really, really like this signing. I just wish there was a team option for next season. Good catch, but you also have to look at the sample sizes. .786 in 300 some plate appearances isn't really convincing enough. Given Jones' weight issues, I have trouble seeing him out there for more than 400 plate appearances. Especially if the Sox want him to fill in at the corner outfield positions at times.

Williams has to make a splash
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) Not both, but either plus Jenksy. B.J. Upton is a special kind of talent. lol, the Rays want to get rid of salary to keep Crawford, not add it.

Barry Bonds
Bonds hasn't played baseball in a year... It might take him a while to get back in the swing of things. Plus, he's 45. If he doesn't perform well to start the year (which I guess he wouldn't), the fans will start to b**** and the media will go crazy. Plus, this puts a lot of national attention (pressure) on the White Sox. Not sure if you really want that. As good as this looks on paper, there are numerous other problems with it that will screw it up. Plus, I'm sure chemistry wouldn't even exist in the clubhouse with Barry the douchebag around and the team not winning. How will Ozzie deal with him?

Idle speculation ~ Kenny Williams' Sox Future
Honestly, are you questioning the man who got Jake Peavy without cleaning the farm and Alex Rios for free? How dare you!

Williams has to make a splash
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) Why wouldn't we have the money/prospects to get one of these guys? I agree acquiring both of them is close to impossible, but it's not far-fetched to think we could get one of them, especially Upton who is coming off a poor season. If the Rays are serious about keeping Crawford long-term, I think they might move Upton sooner rather than later. I also think he might come cheaper than most people think. Are you willing to part with Dan Hudson and Tyler Flowers for Upton? In all honesty, I'm not and I don't think the organization is either. As much talent as Upton possesses, he's nowhere near a guarantee to play up to his full potential given the track record of his past two seasons. This team is already banking on a couple of guys coming off bad years where they did not play anywhere close to the levels that their talent level was. Are you going to throw half of your farm at a guy of similar caliber? I wouldn't do it, not for this season at least.

Williams has to make a splash
Since when did we turn into the Boston Red Sox? We don't have the money or the prospects (well we do, but do you want to trade Beckham or Hudson?) to get one of those guys you listed, let alone 2... Be realistic people.

Wise to Philly...
So another legendary White Sox center fielder goes to Philly...

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) Teahan, Vizquel and now Andruw Jones....getting to be a bizarre offseason. If Vizquel and Jones are just bench players, who cares. But if they get more than 150 AB each...the 2010 Sox are in trouble. It's funny how Kenny tends to keep acquiring people 3-4 years after he first tries to acquire them and well after they can contribute. Griffey, Alomar, the other Alomar, now Vizquel and Jones. By the way, the following members of the 1996-1999 Indians were acquired by the White Sox at some point: Albert Belle Sandy Alomar Omar Vizquel Kenny Lofton Jim Thome Bartolo Colon Roberto Alomar Alan Embree Herb Perry A little bizarre for one team to acquire so many players from another, don't you think? Wow we have basically acquired the Indians lineup when that team was in its prime.

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Our bench is so much better than it was last year. If we get Blanco, it might be one of the best in the AL. Even without Blanco, Flowers as a backup is pretty damn good. Plus, with Ozzie playing his bench a lot, it could pan out pretty well.

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
Andruw Jones had a .323 OBP last year with a SLG near .500, OPS of .783 and a wOBA of .338. He still has good plate discipline. Pretty good offensive numbers. His UZR in limited time at the corners was a 3.0. He contributed 0.8 wins last year for the Rangers. Pretty good piece for the bench.

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) As long as they're not planning on plugging him into the lineup. That'd be disappointing to say the least. Jones is a good power bat off the bench. Having him start would be pretty stupid, although I feel that it's not beyond the White Sox.

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
Not bad for half a million. He can definitely hit some home runs.

White Sox Interested In Coco Crisp
B&B just said there's breaking news on the Sox...I think it might have something to do with Crisp.

Shopping Info ~ Where are the deals?
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 06:06 AM) To kick off the consumer frenzy, I thought a shopping thread would be nice. What are you looking for? I am looking for deals on an iPod Classic or Touch and an external hard drive (1 TB). Target has one for $60. http://weeklyad.target.com/target/default...._email_RS911250

White Sox Interested In Coco Crisp
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) I just wonder why we all assume Crisp will be good defensively. Surgery on both shoulders for a guy already not known for a gun? Ranger's point is well taken IF everybody hits like they are capable we might be OK. Big if, but it's possible the lineup might score some runs. I wish they'd sign Thome and get that taken care of. Since when was arm everything on defense? Having surgery on his shoulders does nothing to his legs, which is his biggest defensive asset. If you're that scared that his arm sucks, put him in left field.

White Sox Interested In Coco Crisp
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) You do realize that a 3.32 ERA in 2008 was the 5th best ERA in teh American league? Plus, Danks was worth 5.2 wins that year. Anything above 4 is all-star caliber. Danks owned in 08.

White Sox Interested In Coco Crisp
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) How many season tickets is this line up going to sell? I wouldn't even be sure that this would win the AL Central... and I KNOW it wouldn't win the World Series. What is there to fear in this line up? CC Sabathia or Josh Beckett would be salivating against this. Carlos Quentin? I mean come on, has Q degraded to merely nothing in the span of one year?

White Sox Interested In Coco Crisp
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) funny how so many people want pods resigned. he most likely going to regress offensively and his defense and base running is awful. id definatley take a chance on crisp. i think its a great possibility since we need a leadoff hitter and kenny always gets his guy The chance of Pods re-producing what he did last year is very slim. Plus, Pods' defense and base running is terrible. That alone makes him much less valuable. Of course, there's always the possibility of Pods getting hurt. Signing Pods is as big of a risk as signing Crisp.
