  1. The White Sox have the 4th pick in the 2018 draft but their 2nd round pick will continue to move around until the end of the offseason. I will continue to update this list as the offseason goes on. There are 30 1st round picks and there are 9 Competitive Balance Round A picks. Also, once Cobb, Hosmer, Cain, Moustakas, Holland, and Sanatan sign, those teams get 1st round picks between the 1st round and competitive balance round. I will assume they sign and put the picks in to start and then take away and move the White Sox 2nd rounder up as guys off the the board. The Cubs and Cardinals will receive picks after the 2nd round once Arrieta, Davis and Lynn sign elsewhere. Carlos Santana signed a 3 year $60 million deal with the Phillies. The Phillies will forfeit their 2nd round pick to do so thus moving the White Sox from #49 to #48. 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. 2. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) But it moves back one from the Indians getting the comp pick, so basically its the same. No it's actually not because the Indians were always getting that pick. That was factored in. Here's the draft order. 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. Pirates 11. Orioles 12. Jays 13. Marlins 14. Mariners 15. Rangers 16. Rays 17. Angels 18. Royals 19. Twins 20. Twins 21. Brewers 22. Rockies 23. Yankees 24. Cubs 25. 3. No. The White Sox aren't contenders in 2018. Steamer has them projected to win 63 games. They will probably do a bit better than that but they lack the pitching depth and overall talent to even consider contending. Starting Pitchers on the 40 man: James Shields (bad), Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Carson Fulmer (young), Dylan Covey (very bad), Carlos Rodon (rehabbing). Relievers: Nate Jones (hurt last year), Juan Minaya (unproven), Gregory Infante (meh), Danny Farquhar (solid but unspectacular), Thyago Veiera (not a lock to make roster initially), Jace Fry (unproven, young), Aaron Bummer (tremendous upside, unproven). That's the current pitching staff. There will be additions but that's not the staff of a contender.
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) To be fair, wasn't Avi in roughly that same prospect range ( #48 if I recall ) when we acquired him for Jake Peavy? Yeah. Toronto isn't trading Bichette for him now though. They can use Bichette to get a much bigger fish than Avisail Garcia
  5. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) I'd absolutely love a deal with Toronto. Bichette ++ would be great. Bichette is a top 35-50 prospect in baseball. No chance Avi has that type of value.
  6. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) The Pirates got Burdi for $500k of international bonus money while we have ~$1mil that we can't use. The White Sox actually only have $500K in international space left. Also, Hahn said that they were interested in 2 guys in the Rule 5. One of them went before the Sox and they found out Wednesday night that the other guy they wanted needed a significant surgery. Then they decided to trade the pick.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Been thinking that if you really want to dream big about possible title contender in a few years, you could trade for Yelich now and then go after Machado next offseason. I wouldn't hesitate to see a package like Hansen, Cease and Rutherford for Yelich. Just to dream big, your 2019 lineup could be: - Yelich - Moncada - Machado - Abreu - Jimenez - Garcia - Castillo - Delmonico - Anderson I don't think you could snag Yelich without trading Kopech or Hansen
  8. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Sox should look at Demeritte as he can potentially play several positions including 3B, SS and 2B. The power is there if he can make offensive adjustments. He's rumored to be going ahead of them. They also don't really have roster space for him.
  9. Also, here's our Rule 5 Preview from FutureSox: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2017/...could-lose-add/
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) I think the Sox select a Pitcher, but I have to say the Franmil Reyes might be the most interesting based on what the Sox have and don't have in their system. Travis Demerette is another. Rumors that Travis Demeritte might go #1 to Detroit
  11. My Rule 5 Preview for FutureSox drops tomorrow. Some interesting options.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) A team trying to win this year can absolutely trade something significant away, the White Sox...not so much. I just meant that I didn't know if anyone would meet the asking price. For example: St. Louis could trade Sandy Alcantara and Jack Flaherty for 1 year of Machado and then recoup a 1st round pick for him. Most contenders can't do that.
  13. I don't know why anyone would give up anything of value honestly. He's not going to re-sign anywhere. He'd be a fool not to reach free agency.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) There's factors (like his contract size, >$50 mill) but it should be after the first round. Teams just don't automatically give up their highest pick. This is not true. The White Sox are a big market club. If they let Abreu walk after 2019, they will receive a pick after the 2nd round for his services.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Not a terrible suggestion, but I think the Sox might try to target players closer to the majors than Beck is. I'd aim for a better return. I think better than that for a 31 year old 1B owed around $38 million over next 2 seasons is unrealistic. I think Luzardo and Beck will both be prominently featured on top 100 lists this year. You have to trust your scouting.
  16. Boston and the White Sox aren't really a match but I wonder if they could be in a 3 way discussion of some kind. Oakland and Boston probably don't do this but this would make sense for Sox. Boston Gets: Jose Abreu Oakland Gets: Jackie Bradley Jr. White Sox Get: OF Austin Beck, LHP Jesus Luzardo, two low level flyers
  17. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) there definitely is a reliever risk. last year in AA he walked 4.5 batters per 9, the year before that it was 5. he only walked 3 in AAA but it was just 15 innings so that is not really telling. most ace Starters are under 2.5. now he is still Young and can improve, other great Starters have been wild but there is a risk that never Comes around. I watched every start of his that was available. He walked too many guys early in the year but figured it out and was lights out after the Futures Game. Michael Kopech should be the least of your worries. He has top 5 pitcher in the sport upside and looked completely unhittable towards the end of his stint in BIrmingham.
  18. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 06:58 AM) he could be Randy Johnson but there is also a significant reliever risk with him. now the good Thing is that that "risk" could still mean the next chapman/miller/kimbrel so this is not so bad but I could see why one would trade a top30 hitting prospect for him. but of course there are also good arguements for keeping him. but I think it is closer than People here think, frazier probably would be the 3rd to 4th best sox prospect right now. I don't really there is significant reliever risk with Kopech anymore. He's the best pitching prospect in baseball. He dominated AA last year and should be in the big leagues shortly. His floor is high leverage power reliever sure but I don't think the risk is significant anymore. He's a freaking ace.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) BA's Rule 5 preview does not list any Sox players in the top 5 rated players. https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2017...yYWagf92Hiyg.97 No they don't. Jordan Guerrero will almost assuredly get selected however
  20. At this point, I don't think Stanton gets moved. Miami will get that roster and just keep Stanton on it. He has a NTC and he has the right to veto any deal. However, those big market teams have severe luxury tax concerns. I don't think he ends up in LA, NY, or with the Cubs for that matter. It doesn't make sense. The Marlins would need to take salary back from the Dodgers in order to move him and that doesn't seem like something they are willing to do. I would be all for the White Sox taking on Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Kazmir in order to obtain prospects as well. That type of scenario doesn't make sense for the Dodgers though. I can't see them trading prospects to move big salaries and then trading more prospects to take on Stanton's deal. It's fine that he doesn't want to go to San Francisco or St. Louis. I think he ends up playing on a terrible Miami club moving forward though unless he expands the list.
  21. Rumors leak out about Sox discussing Abreu but nothing comes to fruition. Sox trade for a Rule 5 pick and select RHP Nick Burdi and LHP Nestor Cortes.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) Yours and many others. You know how it is when there's an offseason lull like this. I don't think I've said that since the weekend. Sorry my post didn't have the word poop in it.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Weeks and weeks of repeating things over and over and over again ??‍♂️ Thank god the winter meetings are next week. Was this in reference to my post?
  24. The White Sox need to either extend Abreu or trade him. Holding him on his current deal while the team will be bad doesn't really make much sense. If he wants to stay forever and take a discount, then I think Hahn will be amenable. If he wants market value though, I think we see him moved. 4 year $70 million extension is the most that I'd think we see.
  25. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Does anybody else think they may look at the market on Mike Moustakas? As it stands the White Sox really don't have a 3rd baseman. He is going into free agency on the younger side at 29 years old and won't command a long contract. If the price gets dropped to 5/70 million maybe with some dollars front loaded to add more appeal wouldn't the White Sox have to consider. The last year he would be playing at age 33 which means you should be getting mostly prime years. He was an above average defender until last year when he became just slightly below which could have been an off year defensively. Travis Sawhik wrote an interesting article coming to the conclusion that his power is real and could probably play even better in our park compared to a stadium like Kauffman that is a pitchers park. Next years crop of 3Bs to me is not very good beyond Machado and Donaldson. I never put any stock in us actually being contenders next year for Manny Machado as the dollars and years would scare the Sox off. Josh Donaldson would be going into the following year at 33. I think this would allow Jake Burger to take his time in the minors like we are doing with Collins. The White Sox could see how he develops, move either Burger or Moustakas when Abreu's contract is up. No. They would have to give up their 2nd rounder to sign Moustakas. Not happening.
