  1. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ May 31, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) This is exactly the type of player the White Sox have trouble developing. And if they continue to not be able to develop players like this then the rebuild will be deemed a failure and they have far bigger problems anyway.
  2. Hickman has 5 scoreless innings. 4H 0BB 2K
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 31, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) It's impossible to have a legitimate opinion on whether or not to trade Quintana without knowing the offers on the table -- both during this past offseason and during the coming trade deadline season. That said, we DO need more prospects. We have a lot of good ones now, but not nearly enough to account for attrition. As much I love Quintana, we're not to the point where we can start looking at current stars and realistically expecting them to be stars for our next contender. We very much still need to be in asset collection mode if we're going to do this the right way. This is a great post
  4. We have the prospect profile on Jordon Adell coming today. After reading the reaction to Jeren Kendall, I'm not expecting the reaction to Adell to be very positive
  5. Keeping Quintana doesn't make any sense. They need the prospects that they will ultimately get in return for him. People keep talking about 2019 but the Sox don't have many long-term answers as far as position players go. Where are those guys coming from? They are banking on Moncada, Anderson, Robert, and Collins. What if a couple of them bust though? They need to keep adding. Quintana will need a new contract by the time the Sox are good again so I just don't think keeping him makes any sense and I also don't know how this team is playoff ready in 2019.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) Well, Hostetler's philosophy has (supposedly) changed the drafting process...so we'll know if he or KW is ultimately calling the shots still if they take Kendall over some of the other available collegiate bats that have been discussed. This isn't true. Kenny Williams isn't the final decision maker on draft picks and what they did last year isn't really Hostetler's "style". They made it a point last year to add some more well rounded "baseball players" last year. Hostetler came from Schuerholtz mold of scouting though which seemingly targets power pitchers and athletes at premium positions.
  7. http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=7116 He has the White Sox taking Jeren Kendall and has this to say: White Sox GM Rick Hahn met with Kendall last week. This would be a nervy pick, like taking Alec Hansen in the second round last year (he was a likely top-of-draft guy who fell due to performance, not injury), but with the higher risk of taking Kendall at 11 when there are lots of good college bats such as Logan Warmoth still on the board. His top 10 looks like this: 1. Twins-Kyle Wright RHP Vandy 2. Reds- Hunter Greene RHP HS CA 3. Padres- MacKenzie Gore LHP HS NC 4. Rays- Brendan McKay LHP Louisville 5. Braves- Royce Lewis CF HS CA 6. Athletics- Pavin Smith 1B Virginia 7. Diamondbacks-Adam Haseley OF Virginia 8. Phillies- Austin Beck OF NC 9. Brewers- Jordon Adell OF HS KY 10. Angels- Griffin Canning RHP UCLA 11. White Sox- Jeren Kendall OF Vanderbilt 12. Pirates-JB Bukauskus RHP UNC
  8. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ May 29, 2017 -> 11:54 PM) I want nothing to do with Kendall--his stats are underwhelming, he's shown no growth over his career at Vandy and the K rate is a huge red flag. In fact, he reminds me a bit of Jared Mitchell. I can only hope that the Sox maintain last year's focus on college hitters who have shown at least some level of plate discipline and production (Collins, Fischer, Call) and are taking long looks at Hasely, Burger, Hiura and maybe Even White if they decide to go for a college bat. I would actually argue that Jeren Kendall has a much better shot at being a solid big leaguer than Alex Call or Jameson Fisher. He has 70-80 speed, + arm, + glove, + bat speed, and + power. If he didn't strikeout too much, he'd be a top 3 pick. I'm not really sure any of those guys you listed are worth the $4 million price tag.

  10. Former 7th rounder and Simeon grad Blake Hickman is making his org debut for Kannapolis today
  11. If their preference is a college hitter, Adam Haseley, Jeren Kendall, Pavin Smith, Jake Burger, Evan White, and Keston Hiura all in that range. I'd be good with any of the 4 OF's including HS bats Jprdon Adell (Who Sox are very familiar with) and Austin Beck.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) To get a good seat at a baseball game, you have to pay a ransom. Just to eat a little bit and drink a little bit you have to pay a fortune. A lot of people find out they don't need it. Some diehards still want to go watch baseball, but if the Sox finish last this year and the next two years and are out of it in May all 3 years, I'd expect the franchise may not survive that. Also the product is very boring thanks to the umps who allow snail's paced play. Also the chess games after the sixth inning and the shifts. Baseball is very boring right now. Many teams have horrible hitters, the White Sox right at the top of the list. I would assume the rules of the game will change drastically, but it may take several years for the older traditionalists to pass on. I don't know what it will take for the umps to try to help the game. THey are playing a little game in which they do what they want to do and there's not much that can be done to get them to care about the game of baseball and speed up the pace of play. Greg, this is just not true. I need you to tell me if this is too expensive: Me and 3 buddies just bought tickets to see Sale vs Quintana on Tuesday. We are sitting in row 15 in the OF behind the bullpen. Are these considered good seats? They were $18 a piece. It was cost the 4 of us $20 to park the car on Tuesday night. I will probably spend $60-$70 on food and beer because I feel like it but it doesn't mean I have to. Would you do this?
  13. Sox need to call up a position player for tomorrow, right? They have 8 relievers, 3 bench guys, and Covey is hurt. Danish goes tomorrow but they'll likely need another starter for Monday or Tuesday if Covey is unavailable.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) Rucker can be the 3rd element of the Cubs/Q trade. Or they can go with the AA pitcher, #8 prospect whose name escapes me at the moment. Proposal: Mightily struggling Schwarber, Happ or Jimenez and Rucker for Q. Unfortunately, don't think the Cubs will give up 2 of those first 3...might have to go to Baez instead matched with one of those names. The Cubs and Sox aren't making a Quintana trade.
  15. This is great stuff from Julie. I've always talked about this very topic and wish that I would have written it. Awesome job.
  16. 1/3 of Keith Law's book is about Hall of Fame voting and it's really interesting. Brian Kenny has super interesting stuff in his too. Kevin Brown and Mike Mussina usually guys most debated.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Why isn't Burger ranked higher? Has some great stats Right handed hitter and probably can't stay at 3B. I like him though.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) How can the Bulls get Deaaron Fox. I would like him on our team. On an unrelated note, what are the odds that Bosh is a Bull? Trading Jimmy Butler is literally the only way they can acquire DeAaron Fox.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 23, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) Haha there's usually one guy that many have a consenus on every year as a top 10 pick who happens to fall. I'm gonna say he's the guy. Hopefully it's not because of an injury *knock on wood*. I hope you are right though. I'd love Gore.
  20. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 23, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) What was said in this thread that you consider absurd? How about the very first post? His tweet about the newsletter was clearly a joke after taking a beating from Sox fans all day. Also, thinking he has a bias against the Sox is absurd. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it's pretty baseless.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 23, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) Weird feeling/prediction. I think MacKenzie Gore drops out of the top 10. No basis on it, just a gut feeling. I'll take that bet.
  22. Keith Law has no White Sox bias. This thread is absurd. I think it's funny that people say he "doesn't like Robert" when he said he could be a 3-4 WAR CF and would go in the middle of the 1st round. Sox fans on twitter are being ridiculous. Law hasn't seen Robert play but neither have any of the idiots tweeting at him.
  23. I just read Keith Law's book actually. He talks about his time with Toronto in there. He was basically their only "data analyst". He wasn't choosing players. He was basically a lesser version of what Dan Fabian is for the White Sox today. He said in there that he wouldn't be qualified for the same position today. Law has said that Luis Robert could become a 3-4 WAR CF and he didn't scoff at an Adam Jones comp if everything goes right. White Sox fans are embarrassing themselves tonight.
  24. Here's Keith Law's writeup on Luis Robert move: http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=7110 Law isn't really a fan and mentions many of the deals that haven't worked out for Cuban hitters. He also said he hasn't seen Robert play but will once he goes to a team. He said he talked to scouts though and this is what he heard: Hit tool not better than Moncada which is concerning because still real questions about his swing and striking out 27% in AAA. Athletic, plus runner, above average bat speed and raw power. Every single scout Law spoke with had major concerns about Robert's swing and his ability to make contact against even average fastballs inside or up. Robert has a "dead hands" start that results in no load and his swing doesn't involve his lower half. Speed and range for CF with mixed reports on his arm. Contract is commensurate with what guys like him have gotten paid though.
  25. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break...0523-story.html Greenberg and Golic on "poisonous terms" apparently as show nears its end.
