Right but Sirota’s apparently contribute to his underachieving.
-
They lose Prager and can’t spend the slot amount from pick 81 in this draft but they get pick 82 in next year’s draft.
-
They think McLain is better apparently.

Skepticism of this franchise is always warranted and these are fair criticisms. I didn’t know much about McLain, Saucke and Antonacci as they came off the board. I trust the recent success of the area guys who recommended them though. Now we just need to see if they’re right.
-
I was mostly confused because I didn't think they were paying any of the players in 6-10. I also wasn't expecting Bonemer to be quite that much. I think the amateur scouting department is pretty good. I'm not going to assume that I know more than them on Casey Saucke and Sam Antonacci. What if they took Saucke in round 3 and paid him $847K as an underslot and then took McLain in round 4 and paid him $800K as an overslot signing? Would it still be an issue. I just don't think it's a big deal as the class comes into focus. Also, I'm still waiting for an explanation on what they should've done instead. I have a feeling I'll be waiting awhile.

They were underslot in round 3 and went over in 4 and 5 but basically didn't get true 5th or 6th round players because of it. I'm still struggling to see what the issue is and I haven't seen another path presented.

What's the biggest issue with the financial allocation that people have? This is essentially what the White Sox did. Hagen Smith: $8 million at 5th overall. Caleb Bonemer: $3 million, equivalent to 29th overall Blake Larson $1.4 million, equivalent to #61 overall, 2nd round Casey Saucke :$857K, equivalent to 3rd round Nick McLain: $800K, equivalent to 3rd round. Sam Antonacci: $550K, equivalent to 4th round. Aaron Combs: $250K, equivalent to #219, 7th round Pierce George and Phil Fox: equivalent to #261, 9th round. Liam Paddack: $172K, just outside of round 10. In theory, they took one of the best players in the class at 5. Then they traded up for another first rounder. They added a 2nd, two 3rd's and a 4th but they didn't do anything equivalent to rounds 5, 6 or 8. I'm seeing people take issue with Saucke and Antonacci the most. That's fair. I understand why the White Sox didn't play it straight in this draft class though.

The issue seems to be what they paid for Saucke and Antonacci based on media rankings.

This isn’t what I said at all but cool.

I’d like Dalton Rushing, Alex Freeland and Jackson Ferris from the Dodgers. -
I just think looking at slot values isn’t the way to do this. They had $15.3 million to spend and needed to get as much talent as possible. It’s fine if some don’t believe they did that but going overslot on a few guys and underslot on a few others later to pay for it doesn’t really matter. Teams operate similarly every year.
-
They’ll play. We just won’t hear about it. The Arizona affiliates will play backfield games every day.
-
Bonemer and Larson will play organized back field games in Arizona. Most of the others likely go to A ball
-
They didn't really punt at all. Just rounds 9 and 10 honestly. Which is totally normal for most teams to do.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Doesn’t really seem like anyone wants to ever. I saw a report that the Padres don’t want to trade Salas or De Vries. They’re 100% out on Crochet if that’s the case. -

I don’t think there was a demand. Thorpe was the best player offered in return. Nobody was willing to trade a position player package. -

He hired Brian Bannister and made multiple outside hires. Signed Erick Fedde who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. He’s likely to get something for Tommy Pham and Paul Dejong. They already got something for Robbie Grossman. They waited out the market on Dylan Cease and did well on the return. We have no idea if he overpaid on the draft but only the first rounder is influenced much by the GM. Who have they lost on waivers etc that should still be here? I’m sorry but I don’t think it fits at all. -

I don’t understand this nickname -
Why? I bet some of them got $150K. Theres little incentive to sign otherwise
-
The White Sox don’t think they overpaid. They thought Saucke and McLain were third round players and Antonacci was a fourth round value. They maneuvered to ensure that they got the players that their scouts wanted. Now they need to be right. This is always weird but I’m guessing they had a deal with both guys and it was more likely that someone would take McLain before their next pick. Yes. Every pick signed. You can’t just look at rankings. Casey Saucke is ranked 53rd overall at BP and some publications have McLain ranked highly as well. The White Sox really like these players. I don’t know who represents Bonemer. Boras represents McLain though.
-
Hagen Smith had multiple teams in on him for nearly $8 million and the White Sox made a legitimate attempt to land Charlie Condon as well.
-
The most they can offer him is $847,465.
-
Where did he say this? I was on every conference call
-
That's a good deal on Larson imo.

Dodgers interested in Robert, Crochet, Pham

He's already had Tommy John though. I don't think he's an injury risk right now more than any other pitcher would be from being a pitcher.
