White Sox sign Martin Maldonado 1 year/4 million, vesting option for 2025
It’s playing with fire

I think he moves because taking him into the season isn’t worth the risk. That’s my assumption. I think Sox want both.

They’re trying to develop young pitching with veteran leaders and game callers. No idea. I’d be pretty surprised unless Hurston Waldrep is involved and he hasn’t been on the table to this point.

It’s basically $5 million total for two veteran catchers. It’s fine

I don’t mind going all defense, game calling at catcher. It’s going to be a very young starting staff

Cease To Padres per Passan
I don’t think that’s true. They know what they’ll ultimately take in return. Lowder +Arroyo would be a fun and realistic return.

If the Orioles were offering Kjerstad and Westburg, I think the deal would be done

If nobody does, they’ll hold him until the deadline it seems

They wanted Jorge too but he’s an obvious 4th piece to me Not sure what to believe. I’m sure Baltimore is their ideal trade candidate but they haven’t heard the names they want to pull the trigger. Same with Atlanta.

Cease To Padres per Passan
The White Sox asked for Rhett Lowder, Chase Petty and Sammy Stafura. If the Reds think that’s ridiculous, I’d tell them to enjoy finding a Cease level guy in free agency.

Cease To Padres per Passan
White Sox offices are closed until the new year. It’s not impossible but I wouldn’t expect much activity over next week

Cease To Padres per Passan
This isn’t true at all. I’d bet the majority of the return reaches the majors in 2024

Yoshinobu Yamamoto got $325 million 12 years from Dodgers (+posting fee)
It’s never going to happen in a sport without a salary cap where small market owners are content just making money

Great post. The Dodgers are able to do this because they’re the best development org in baseball. They draft, sign and develop talent consistently while picking in the back of the first round every year. They have lots of cheap players which allows them to flex their muscles. Theres parity. It’s baseball. If I gave you the Dodgers or the field to win the 2024 title, who are you taking?

The White Sox see him as a reliever

I think it's a short-term fix too. They want to play really good defense next year if they're going to be bad. It helps the endless amounts of young starting pitchers who will make cameos. They don't want to play "small ball" long-term. Nobody actually wants to do that. Power is just expensive to acquire.

2024 - MLB Draft Thread
They’ll very likely go underslot in the first round because everyone likely will in the 1-4 spots too. It’s a smart strategy to go under in 1 and over in 2 when you don’t have compensatory picks. I trust Mike Shirley. Just let him make the recommendation and get Jeremy Haber out of the room.

I think it’s a big mistake if they don’t. Where is the offense coming from?

Beckham is an analyst. It’s not even the same job

I’d be shocked if Kelenic were involved. I also don’t think it’s the Braves. It would’ve been done already if it were going to be Atlanta imo.

We saw what the asking price was from Reds according to Levine

Glasnow traded to Dodgers
I'd still say Baltimore because it makes the most sense but I'm not sure at all. AA doesn't trade for Boras clients because he likes to extend players immediately after trading for them. They don't have any Boras guys I don't believe.

Glasnow traded to Dodgers
Was this recently or from his notes column last week? I thought Atlanta too but I honestly don't think it's them. They just don't have enough I don't think. It would always be really out of character for AA.

Glasnow traded to Dodgers
I’d be surprised by Hader. That would cost them their 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th rounder plus $2 million in int space

The International Signing Thread
I checked with Romero on this. Cruz had been rumored to Cubs for like a year and at a lot more money than $1 million. I think he might be wrong. Herrera is fun though.
