Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
Lol...are we only evaluating relievers based based on their prior season now? Colome has a nice track record of success and has proven himself able to handle the 9th inning. I strongly believe he would have gotten a little bit more than Herrera in this market. There is some surplus value there IMO, although admittedly not a ton. Either way, selling high means you sold an asset at peak value. You may not like the return we got for him, but 0 WARP catchers coming off flukey offensive seasons aren’t that valuable. The time to sell Narvaez was this offseason.

3/3 vs Cubs, 2pm
Look, I’ve been as negative as anyone these past few weeks, but the reality is the Sox will have money to burn next offseason. They most certainly won’t be getting Cole or Sale, but they’ll have to spend their money on something and I could easily see Verlander (less likely to pull off) & Bumgarner be their primary targets. Not suggesting that I’d be overly excited with Madison but that’s what I fully expect to happen.

And that’s the saddest part of this all. The Sox are literally losing the next generation of fans with their shit product and complete lack of star appeal. Harper would have instantly changed that but alas this organization has zero long-term vision and would rather die a long, slow death than take on any short financial risk.

BaltaBot, this may be your worst post ever. First, you still don’t understand what selling high means. Second, it what world are relievers of Colome’s quality getting a 1/$7M contract with a team option? I actually don’t think there is a ton of surplus value, but to say Colome somehow represents negative value is quite frankly stupid as fuck.

3/3 vs Cubs, 2pm
I think we’ll add one TOR starter to anchor the staff next year, but the rest of the rotation should consist of four of Rodon, Lopez, Kopech, Cease, Giolito, & Dunning. I seriously doubt we add two arms unless something seriously goes wrong this year (which is possible).

3/3 vs Cubs, 2pm
Guys, spring training results really don’t matter that much, especially for pitchers. The staff will likely be garbage but a rough March start in Arizona has very little bearing on that.

I really hope Banuelos looks good today and starts to make a strong case for the 5th starter spot. Unfortunately it seems like the Sox really want to hand that job to Santana no matter what.

Narvaez can’t catch and his bat doesn’t play anywhere, so they made the right call and sold high on him.

There is no hope for the Chicago White Sox (the thread?)
1. I agree Anderson’s ceiling is limited due to a lack of plate discipline, but his defense is much better than you give him credit for. I think he ultimately settles in as a 2.5 to 3 win player and given his contract that’s fine. Also, Tatis had nothing to do with Anderson. 2. I think me and you are watching completely different players when it comes to Moncada. If the dude can be a little bit more aggressive in his approach he’s an easy 3 to 4 win player to me with the upside for much more. You can talk about production but the kid was only 23 years old last year...give him some time. 3. Let’a not compare Luis Gonzalez to Fernando Tatis Jr because there is no comparison whatsoever there.

Spring Training Thread
I watched a lot of Winston Salem games last year via the MILB app and he was very impressive. He was actually fairly selective and the power is insane. He has a chance to be a special offensive player if the plate discipline continues to improve.

Guess the Opening Day 25 Man
He’s pretty much a lock now without Machado IMO.

Golden opportunity down the drain.

lol...three straight hits and then a McCann double play.

It could have been a game changer for the franchise, but unfortunately we didn’t make a bid after two years of planning.

BA White Sox Top 30
I find that to be a really strange list. Spencer Adams at 20 while Jake Burger is at 23?

Also, I know it’s spring training but McCann batting 5th is barf worthy.

Last Two Offseasons
So after this season we will likely have a 2 win player with two years of control who will make $7M and let’s just say $8M over the next two years. Does that player have any surplus value in this day and age? I just don’t understand what we’re doing with the asset. I saw enough of him in 2018 to think he’s reserve IF. I’d rather use him in that role while giving him some playing time in the OF to make him more versatile. I think we have a better chance of creating an attractive trade asset that way than handing him the everyday 2B job and watching his salary slowly creep up. If it were up to me, I’d rather give Rondon the starting gig because at least he’s controllable and flashed some serious power last year.

And let’s not ignore each fan attending a game probably spends a good 50 cents to a dollar on concessions, parking, etc. for each dollar spent on tickets. That could take the value of those ticket sales up to $10M to $14M. Harper’s star power would have paid for a good chunk of his contract with the Sox, but unfortunately our leadership has the business acumen of a toddler.

Last Two Offseasons
You’re a finance guy, what do you project Sanchez’s salary to be next year after another 600 AB season?

100% agree Jack.

Exactly.

There it is, blame the fans for not supporting a shit product. I actually enjoy your overall contributions to the site, but I completely disagree with your assessment on the business side of things. And what wrongs are worse than this? White Flag? Strike? What else is even close?

Good...and they should get worse until this organization creates a culture of accountability and shows a commitment to win. Right now they’ve done neither and there’s still room to attack the bottom of line and force some change.
