  1. For better or worse, I think we end up with Donaldson.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 04:16 PM) Don't see what Volstad accomplishes over Gomez, but whatever. I’m guessing they don’t want to stick with an eight man bullpen for very long and there’s little risk of losing Volstad when they decide to outright him back to Charlotte.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:36 AM) I'm in a fantasy league right now with deep rosters. We have one NA spot. I have both Kopech and Eloy so I keep one on my bench. You guys think Kopech will be up in the next month, making it worth it for me to just stash him on the bench? I think he’s up by early June.
  4. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:01 AM) He isn’t some up-and-coming, developing guy. He’s filler. Every team needs guys like him, but any time he spends with Cooper is time taken away from guys who may be part of the team’s future. That's my point. I want Cooper spending time with guys like Rondon & Vieira and not organizational filler like Volstad.
  5. QUOTE (glangon @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 07:51 AM) I don't think he is major league material either. We are in a rebuild mode though, bringing him up could flick a switch for him. Who knows? The great spring could turn him into a few good innings as a reliever. He can't be worse than some of the donkeys we've had in the pen so far this year. I guess I view any time spent with Cooper to be valuable, so I’d much rather roll the dice on guys with big stuff but poor command or developing secondary offerings that have a chance of filling a long-term role in the bullpen.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 07:39 AM) No way. First we don't and won't have anyone close to a #1 like Sale( unless we trade for him) in 2018 or 19. Maybe in 2020. Boston is loaded w young players who already have or are getting MLB experience. Their outfield, 3rd-SS and C are all young. Hopefully they continue to struggle developing young starting pitchers. Their bullpen is really good. Cora is obviously questionable but so is Renteria. Maybe we catch them in 2021 and in the year 2025 if man is still alive............... Who is the #1 in 2020? I’d argue Kopech has a non-zero chance of being a #1 starter in 2019 if he gets a good four months of seasoning this year. Rodon could be a solid #2 next year if healthy (big if I know). Giolito & Lopez should hopefully be damn good #3 & #4 starters. Even if there is no true ace next year while Kopech developing, the rotation should be pretty good. I’m more concerned about the positional side at the moment. Moncada will have to take that next step and Jimenez will have be pretty awesome from the get-go for us to more than a 2nd wild card contender next year.
  7. QUOTE (glangon @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 07:00 AM) Volstad is a potential bring him up, see if he can stick around, then flip him at the deadline. It will cost nothing to bring him up. I reckon it will be a right handed reliever which would be him or Vieira. The only other thought may be someone like Gonzalez or Austin to cover the injury to Castillo, if it is more serious than they first thought. Not to be a dick, but Volstad is terrible and does not warrant a call up. I know he had a nice spring, but his role is to be the rubber arm in AAA and help protect us from having to use kids in unfavorable spots. I really don’t think he’s major league reliever material and I certainly don’t think you’ll get anything for him even if things go right because his upside is so low.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 04:30 AM) Yea I thought that was a dumb statement as well. Obviously Hill, Wilson and hell, even Hunt are all under 6 foot giants. Kelce is the exact same height as guess who? Shaheen. I doubt Nagy has a preference there. Bears have a nice mixture of tall possession targets and small speedsters. Still need one more guy (wasn't a big Meredith fan anyways) to keep Bellamy away from being an option. I'll judge that part with Pace after the draft is over. It’s fine if you don’t think size will limit Cohen & Gabriel’s utility, but let’s not compare 5-10 & 5-11 guys to 5-6 & 5-7 guys. Both the guys I mentioned are tiny, although Wilson is pretty small as well. And I never said anything about Shaheen’s height, just said his playing time will be restricted. Burton is going to be the primary U tight end in Nagy’s system, which means Shaheen is competing for playing time in more of a blocking role with Sims for the Y spot. We may have a lot of interesting weapons, but many of them of are unproven or gimmicky. Having a taller possession WR to add to the mix for a total of $3M would have been nice. Right now, we’re one injury away from Bellamy playing an important role in this offense. That’s pretty scary when one of your top three guys is Kevin White.
  9. Kings are going to win which is nice. That Pelicans pick didn’t turn out too hot however.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 07:55 PM) I would think Gomez (or Ross Jr.)...just to see if he has anything left, then they move on to the more legit prospects. Isn’t the 40 man roster full at the moment? If so, that would definitely make Vieira the favorite. Plus they may not want eight men in the pen long-term, so I doubt they add another guy without options after calling up Rondon.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 07:27 PM) Is there a service time issue with calling Vieira this early? He has 1 game pitched in MLB with Seattle last year, August 14th He’s missed the first 14 days of this season and you only have to miss 11 I believe to count less than a full season, so we should be good even the one day from last year.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 06:55 PM) Maybe Vieira coming up Speculating or is there a rumor?
  13. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 05:09 PM) Between investing $100 mill on pass catchers this offseason, already having Cohen and Shaheen, still likely being a 50/50 run/pass offense, and assuming Trubisky will be good, Meredith was a luxury not a need. He is probably a 35-40 pass catcher in this offense. They must have been less than impressed with the medicals, too. I politely disagree. KC was like 60% passing plays last year. Shaheen is behind Sims on the depth chart who is a poor pass catcher. Cohen & Gabriel are both midgets and therefore have limitations. Meredith had a role to play in this offense and could have been retained for $3M total (or half of what we paid Wheaton to catch 3 passes last year). Unless there was something seriously wrong with the medicals this was a really dumb move. Depth is important as we saw year when trotted out one of the worst WR groups in NFL history.
  14. Hot take but Davidson is the f***ing GOAT DH!!
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 12:55 PM) Definitely think Fulmer is a ML starter but what do we think about pushing him back to the 'pen where he could be a star? Obviously the SP depth here is ridiculous as well Give him the innings for now. There’s no rush in making a decision. Even with Rodon coming back at some point and Kopech a mid-season call-up, he can have a spot in the rotation until one of Stephens, Adams, Guerrero, or Hansen says otherwise.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 12:43 PM) Wow this is definitive Yeah, I’m sold now.
  17. Phillies are going to snag Bohm right in front of us just like they did Nick Burdi in the Rule 5.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 10:55 AM) Saw on Twitter - Konerko hit his inside the park home run in Tropicana 18 years ago today. Crazy. I remember my dad came home from work, asked me how the Sox scored, I told him and he thought I was messing with him. I still remember watching that game. One of my favorite moments in Sox history.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 08:55 AM) FWIW, if you take out opening day, Matt Davidson is 4-26, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 8 BB, 12K, .308 slg, .371 opb, .679 OPS. 100% fair response, but that’s why it’s called a hot take. The walk rate has been ridiculous and is making me question my own pessimism towards Matt. I’m hopeful that when the weather heats up the power will return. And I’m not suggesting Davidson will ever be a star (he won’t), but potentially a serviceable DH option. Just two weeks ago he was the one guy on the roster I wish wasn’t on it, so this is as hot of a take as I could come up with.
  20. Now that we're 10 games deep into this lovely season, I'd thought it would be fun to see some takes on players based on this incredibly small sample size. I'll obviously go first with a couple. 1) Carson Fulmer is NOT a starter but should be a very good reliever 2) Matt Davidson has actually figured s*** out & will be a solid DH option 3) Reynaldo Lopez is going to pitch like a legit #3 starter this season
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 12:41 AM) Reminds me why owners never pay for stadiums. They are a bad investment. Threatening to move is a good way to force it on tax payers. Too bad they don't hear "no". The Sox would be in Tampa right now if we said no.
  22. Wow, Basabe 5-5 since I ripped his slow start mid game yesterday.
  23. Not to be a hater, but how many ground balls has Avi hit this year? Doesn’t appear to be getting any more lift and that’s going to be a problem when his BABIP regresses back to the mean.
  24. Apparently the only way to stop Bennetti from telling more funnies is to actually escape an inning.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 02:54 PM) It's going to be nice when Sox pitchers start throwing strikes again and when Sox batters start getting hits again. FIFY
