They are?- Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Oh I agree with this. But the Ricketts allow their front office to run a modern baseball org, which up until now (and a huge maybe), Jerry has been against.- Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
There is no rational argument for the Ricketts being worse than Jerry. The latter is a no doubt bottom four owner in baseball right now along with Nutting, Fisher, and whoever owns the Rockies.- Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
I won’t defend a $65M payroll or Jerry for that matter, but we’re also rebuilding so you’re comparing apples and oranges. The Cubs should be outspending us by a mile right now. That being said, I do agree the Ricketts should be doing more theoretically, but they are also a bunch of trust fund fuckwads so who knows.- Tanner Scott to LAD. 4 years/72m
Lol…Jerry needs to sell ASAP. Like when a “cherry on top” closer signing for the Dodgers is effectively the largest move in franchise history for us, it’s officially time to put the current owner to pasture. $100M contracts are simply not a big deal anymore, at least in isolation, but Jerry is basically allergic to them. Also, f*** the Dodgers and Major League Baseball…league is a total fucking joke right now.- Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart
I’m not sure what people are even arguing here. Paddy legit failed at his job, regardless if he was somewhat compromised by Jerry. We have consistently failed to fully utilize our international bonus pools in an effective manner under both Hahn and Getz (at least so far). And no, one good trade for Batista by Hahn doesn’t change that narrative…there are multiple years of money going unspent, pool traded to teams to eat option costs, and slot being traded for relief prospects that all flamed out. As for Keller, it’s way too early to draw firm conclusions there. The early talk is highly promising but we need to see some results before we anoint him our LatAm savior.- FutureSox: 2025 International Class comes into focus
Seems like a bad sign no?- Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart
Exactly this…or make them free agents. Don’t build situations like this where a highly talented intentional player like this just goes “f*** it, I guess I’ll sign with the Dodgers”. But for some reason, there is a subset of MLB fans who like to pretend the Dodgers spend more because their owners are generous with their wealth and want to win more than the other cheap owners instead of simply having access to more revenue streams than the vast majority of clubs.- Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart
Why is he going through the amateur process to begin with when he’s played multiple years of professional ball in Japan? Yeah, there are plenty of reasons to go to the Dodgers when he’s limited to a like $6M signing bonus. Unfortunately, it’s a flawed system and one that rewards teams like the Dodgers.- White Sox sign LHP Martin Pérez

I’m still not sure why Brady is viewed as a plus. He was an awesome QB, but what does he bring to the table in his current role? It’s possible he helps right the ship over there but it’s all speculation at this point.- 24-25 NFL Thread
As a Bears fan, I will be distraught if we don’t land Johnson. As a Raiders season ticket holder, I will at least benefit some from the Bear’s incompetence.- 24-25 NFL Thread
I don’t like Vegas tempting the football gods like this…they will punish us Bears fans harshly by making Petzing the HC.- Vaughn and Sox avoid arbitration: $5.85 million
And that’s totally fair to some degree, but when his counterargument is using the eye test and applying subjective value to defense based on gut it’s a tough to take his position too seriously. The concept of WAR makes all the sense in the world, and while not perfect, it’s better than just shooting from the hip like vilehoopster is doing.- Ishbia brothers own small piece of White Sox...

Yeah, I literally said “RBI’s is a very meaningless stat without context”. Where a dude bats in the lineup, who hits in front of him, the park factor of their home field, etc. all play a role in how many RBIs one gets. wRC+ uses linear weights to assign a run value to each offensive outcome. It’s purposely intended to strip out context and highlight the offensive value of what a player did on their own merits. While I agree there is an element of clutchness (or luck) that can lead to better outcomes, the reality is the vast majority of RBI’s require other players to be on base and that isn’t something Jose Abreu had control over in 2019. How would other comparable hitters fared if put in those same exact situations? And you say his job is to drive runners in but also say the goal of the game is to simply “score runs”. You can’t have it both ways. A low OBP means he’s not setting up the hitters behind him to help drive runs in themselves…you need to look at total run creation like wRC+ does to fully asses the value of a hitter. It may not be totally perfect, especially if a guy is more clutch than lucky (which is impossible to tell), but it’s completely objective and is probably one of best advanced metrics out there IMO.- 24-25 NFL Thread
Raiders may be the only NFL org more dysfunctional than us. I obviously could be wrong, but I can’t imagine Brady as minority owner changes the calculus enough to offset the lack of a QB, lack of pick high enough to draft a good QB prospect, lack of weapons outside of Bowers, and a poor defense. Despite our holes in the trenches, we are much closer to being a competitive team than the Raiders are and that’s a huge plus for a first time HC in the NFL IMO. - 24-25 NFL Thread
