  1. Easy path to the 2020 World Series (only semi-serious): 1) Trade Quintana for Martes, Tucker, & Reed 2) Sign Luis Robert as amateur free agent 3) Draft Seth Beer in 2018 MLB draft 4) Sign Josh Donaldson in 2018-19 free agent class 1B: Reed 2B: Moncada SS: Anderson 3B: Donaldson LF: Beer CF: Robert RF: Tucker DH: Abreu C: Collins #1: Kopech #2: Rodon #3: Giolito #4: Hansen #5: Martes CL: Burdi SU: Lopez SU: Fulmer MR: Stephens MR: Flores MR: Dunning LR: Adams
  2. I just don't see the Astros ponying up yet. I feel like they'll need a little bit of panick to ensue before they ultimately decide to pay the high price it will take to land Quintana. I think that's pretty crazy as they're a TOR starter away from being neck & neck with the Red Sox & Indians, but Luhnow is apparently overvaluing his prospects at the moment.
  3. Martes, Tucker, Reed, & Sierra. Give me those four guys and call it a deal.
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) Eventually a contender (like the Astros) will realize it wants to win right now, and worry less about 5 years from now They may even realize that by May. And the good news is I fully expect the Sox to be willing to make a move early if someone meets their price.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) If those two pieces are in place, after all this time, it's close. Makes you wonder about Luhnow's latest comment in re "the ask..." Wasn't that the Pirates' GM or am I wrong?
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) But at this point, who would you rather have? Pretty easy decision in my opinion. I'll take Ynoa over Covey no doubt.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) I would hope if that happens, that they would keep him in the minors for what, 2 weeks, so he can gain the extra year of control. Yup, it would be 100% unacceptable to not just wait the two or so weeks it would take to ensure an extra year of control. Plus it gives us another few weeks to evaluate guys who can't be sent down. I have full confidence Burdi won't be up late April at the earliest.
  8. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) Peter Gammons @pgammo now White Sox scout asked by another scout why he was at Astros-Marlins game. "always a guy named Quintana, he laughed. Yes, 'Stros still trying A couple interesting prospects played, but not many of their tops guys. I still don't think the Sox accept a deal without both Martes & Tucker.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) If it's true the Sox have no agreement in place for any of the better players, it seems obvious they are positioning themselves for a shot at this guy no matter when he is declared. If they aren't going to spend more than $300k or just slightly more the next period, if he's declared early, the 2 period penalty, in reality is just one. And if they are saving all their bonus if he is declared after 6/15, not being tied to anyone gives them more to throw at him. Obviously they would prefer after 6/15, but if it before, unless they have some unknown commitments, I can't see them not going after him. Obviously price still matters. If he goes for Moncada money, there is no chance. I'm in agreement, I think the addition of Robert is well worth no $300k signings for two years and hopefully the Sox agree. To your point, the fact the Sox aren't linked to any of the top prospects in next year's class suggests they just might.
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I imagine Hahn probably turns to Rodon next, but those conversations probably won't go anywhere. Really good move by Hahn to get some financial certainty going forward, which will help the team manage payroll going forward. There is also a marketing element to this. The Sox want to keep their fans excited during what should be a somewhat painful rebuilding process and locking up a promising young talent helps build some goodwill. Perhaps this move is a year early, but the downside risk is so low that it's worth maintaining some positive momentum with the fans. This another reason why I fully expect us to land Luis Robert if he's declared in this free agent period. Hahn will want some to show some early signs of progress before the second half of this rebuild takes shape in June & July.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:44 AM) K not so terrible for TA "Shortstop Tim Anderson can earn total of $51.5 million if #Whitesox pick up 2 club option years of record deal http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...99441684/" -nightingale on twitter Not a bad price on those options. All things considered, this is an excellent deal for us and sets us up nicely for a strong competitive window from 2020 to 2024.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) I am torn on this a gamble either way. Not against it though. What's the downside though? We basically have no financial commitments after the 2018 season. We can afford a small miss if things were to go south. And honestly, with his defense alone, I don't think there's a contract we could sign him to right now that we wouldn't be able to move down the road at the very least. Again, I don't really see much risk here, but tons and tons of upside.
  13. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) So hes a top 5 prospect because he got hot during the afl? His stats in A ball are pedestrian A near .800 OPS in high A from a 19 year old SS prospect is pedestrian?? I agree he's probably a bit overrated due to his AFL stint, but let's not sell his A ball numbers short. The kid is an incredible prospect and worthy of top 10/20 status.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) Just wait. You'll be proven wrong. Yup, Frazier's market could be vastly different come the trade deadline. With even the slightest bit of a rebound, I expect him to generate a halfway decent return.
  15. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) Being reported that a follow up exam shows he needs TJ surgery. Source?
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Listening to Hahn today, sounds like Bourjos is going to be in CF, with Leury on the bench. Engel and May getting more minor league time. Saladino and Sanchez will share 2b. Pretty much how I expected it. Still leaves two spots between Davidson, Asche, & Liriano.
  17. Delmonico just jacked one! He's going to have a role on this team at some point this season.
  18. Donaldson will also be a free agent at that time. Despite the fact he'll be 33, he'd still be an incredible get given that he can experience a ton of regression and still a remain an elite player. And probably a more realistic target I might add.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 1h1 hour ago No #WhiteSox prospect has been more impressive this spring than Reynaldo Lopez, now taking his warmup tosses before facing KC. I really think Lopez will be the first starter called up from AAA. Does anyone know the date he can be called up that assures an extra year of control?
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) I guess, but for the sake of the rebuild, KC is one of the teams we don't want to be sellers in July. I think this one reason why Hahn will be very open to selling players early.
  21. I'm not sure why Saladino is so slept on around here. Dude was an above-average bat the final two months of the season when he got more consistent playing time. Even with some regression offensively, he can still provide plenty of value with his plus defense at 2B or 3B & smart base-running. Ultimately I think he can be a 2 to 3 WAR player with regular playing time, which would be attractive to many teams. To me, the biggest concern with him is health. He's had his share of problems staying on the field.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 12:16 AM) Never go full Greg. POTY
  23. So what's the OF situation going to look like come opening day? Bourjos will most certiantly make the team now (which was already a strong possibility), but this has to create a spot for someone that was previously a long-shot. Liriano makes the most sense IMO given he can play all three positions and is out of options. Engel & May definitely need more minor league seasoning, which also helps Liriano's cause. That only leaves L. Garcia and I think he makes the team as the utility man / 5th OF regardless, so Tilson's situation doesn't really impact him. Not sure there is really anyone else in the mix.
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) Saladino has been our best player this spring Glad the 2B spot is now open for him. He deserves a shot at being regular IMO.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) I feel like Holland is going to be better than people are giving him credit for, Gonzalez should be decent and Shields is probably going to be a Jekyl and Hyde type of season where he has an equal amount of good and bad outings. Every year people talk about the massive holes in the lineup, but they still have above average players at 1B, SS, 3B, and LF. Depending on what happens in RF, this team could be plus defensively across the diamond. I also think with the team composition you will see the team take a lot of extra bases and really grind on offense more than they have in a long time. I think the bullpen will be improved from last year with Robertson recovered and Jones, Jennings, and a bounceback from Petricka. Or it could all fall apart. But this team reminds me of one of those A's teams that you think should never compete, but ends up in the middle of things in July and fades out after that. Melky is a below average LF, Tilson should be average at best in CF, & Avi is pretty horrendous in RF other than his arm. Now the overall OF defense could change depending where Bourjous (or even Liriano) fits in, but I'm not seeing a plus OF at all. I think we'll pretty strong at SS & 2B and solid at 3B, but overall I think we'll be a below average defensive team.
