Imagine if you take his one good start out

We paid for that privilege! As we all know, there was a scarcity of SPs with 5.00+ ERA’s and team control for another season at $23M at the deadline!

Hope you like some smoke & mirrors, because Fedde will be putting on a show tomorrow!

We are still winning this game, but it will be despite Castillo trying his best to lose it for us

love we added this f*** to provide innings and he just gets annihilated out of the gate each game.

This is painful to watch.

Next year's positional starters
I figure someone will always be hurt, so Antonacci ends up being a full time player essentially.

Just mind boggling. Even if you felt you could fix him, he had zero surplus value and that’s after netting his salary with Dominguez’s.

I can’t believe we gave up Boston Smith and took on Castillo’s entire contract.

Eugenio Suarez put on waivers
Forgot about Murray, but him too.

We should have Brooks Baldwin & William Bergola next year as reserve infielder options.

Eugenio Suarez put on waivers
Also, our weakest hitters against LHP the last two months have been Murakami (68 wRC+) and Braden (55 wRC+). Both have been a bit unlucky with batted ball luck, but also aren’t rocking great ISO’s during stretch. Murakami had a 128 wRC+ against LHP through June, so there is zero reason to think he’s just a platoon guy at this point. Braden has struggled all year against LHP and while I don’t think he’s a platoon guy long term, I doubt he suddenly starts hitting them this year. If Suarez could actually hit LHP, you could put him at DH and Grichuk in RF and then sit Braden. I’m just not convinced he can hit LHP at this point in his career. Luis Robert, if made available, would be a much preferable fit because he still can hit LHP and would provide improved OF defense as well.

That’s the biggest issue. Another RH bat could certainly help, but Saurez doesn’t inspire much hope right now as a lefty masher.

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
Casey Mize would be an example.

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
I think so, but there hasn’t been an update on him in like a month when he was staring to do long toss. Crazy he’s going to miss two full years from his TJS.

This here could totally be right. I just think at minimum they add another $20M+ AAV type SP, even if it’s an older guy on a shorter deal. I’m hoping for a younger, more impactful SP, but Jerry is risk adverse so hard to bank on that part specifically.

He will, but my guess that’s more of a mid season thing if how the rehabs for Adams, Thorpe, Fry (if he alive?), & Berroa (is he alive?) went.

I mean, I just laid it out. At minimum, we’re adding one TOR starter, Newcomb or replacement, and Grichuk or replacement. Those three alone will likely cost you $40M to $45M. That puts the payroll well below the league medium, which is where Jerry normally operates in semi-competitive seasons. It’s possible they add another depth SP or a better backup C than Bart or Quero. Rotation next year should be: Burke Free Agent Castillo Kay / Davis Schultz / McDougal / Sandlin / Thorpe / S. Smith Bullpen should be: CL: Taylor SU: Newcomb* SU: Hicks SU: H. Smith* MR: Brazoban MR: Hudson* MR: Murphy* LR: Kay / Davis

Tristan Peters will wake up WED morning as the fourth best CFer in MLB by fWAR
The reality is this team isn’t leading the AL Central without Peters.

He’s also as good of a defensive CF as anyone not PCA or Rafaela.

Yeah, I don’t agree with this take at all. You’ve painted him out to be Bob Nutting, whose primary focus is to make a buck. Jerry wants to win, but is risk adverse and doesn’t want to take a loss. We have seen his spending behavior for years. The payroll will ebb & flow with prior year attendance and the next season’s expectations (see chart below). He is a shitty owner for many reasons, but acting like his primary goal is to make money simply isn’t true.

And they took on quite a bit of money in the Castillo trade.
