The order of operations for Montgomery should be simple: Keep him at SS as long as he looks be solid average there If at some point Anderson agrees to an extension, maybe consider moving him to 3rd (dependent on proximity to the majors) Don’t move him to the OF unless both SS & 3B are blocked for multiple years, Montgomery is more or less major league ready, and there is a massive hole in the Sox’s OF Given Colsen probably needs another two years in the minors at minimum, there is zero reason to consider moving him to the OF.

I just don’t see a ton of options that are any better. And at this point, I’m like to hang on our top prospects and hope for some Braves like magic with Gallo.

I think it was reported that Tony pushed for Kelly and then a deal came together fairly quickly.

Gallo has struggled this year, but moreso against RHP. Platoon him with Engel and I’m pretty confident it would be an upgrade over what Pollock is providing offensively and it doesn’t require you play someone incapable of handling RF. It’s a gamble no doubt, but one I’d happily take given the age differential to your point and the wild card that is playing in NYC.

Leury & Kelly reek of Tony.

Rick Hahn coming out of the lockout: “We need to add pitching depth”. Goes out and signs a lottery ticket in VV (despite no off-season to work on things) and adds an expensive reliever in Kelly who was going to miss at least four weeks. Absolutely mind boggling execution plan there.

La Russa’s two big moves as head baseball guy not looking so hot halfway through the season.

I can’t stress enough how awesome it would be if he can get going. His ability to get on base is sorely needed.

Honestly at this point I think the Yankees realize Gallo isn’t going to work out in NY. I think they’ll look to move him this month. Whether they’d want Pollock remains to be seen as they might want a more substantial upgrade.

Was thinking the same thing. Maybe you get lucky and Gallo returns to form by getting out of NY. If not, he’s still probably a better fit for this roster than Pollock since he can actually play RF and should be useful against RHP.

The reality is you can’t trade Eloy until you give him some run and see if he can flash the 2020 version of himself offensively. Teams just aren’t going to give much for him right now and his value could materially with a strong couple months to end this year.

Gotcha, yeah I’d imagine the Sox would want a ton to blow things up with Tony at helm. That being said, I think they do a soft sell at minimum if they’re 10+ games out. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that though.

I pray that SoxFest is back next year, because we’ll have a chance to finally ask some tough questions. I called out Ozzie years ago about the Mark Kotsay / rotating DH concept he so desperately wanted and would love to put Hahn on the spot in regard to many subjects. Just give us fans a chance if the media is afraid to ask legit questions.

Hendricks’ luxury tax number is $18M this year and next, but if his option is exercised for 2024 doesn’t it become $0 at that point? That could be highly valuable for the right club.

Thinking about this some…just don’t see how a retool would work. The challenge in my mind is we only have Cease & Kopech for another three years and Vaughn for another four years. As such, you’d have to get major league ready players for whatever you trade away at the deadline or the timing just won’t work out as most of our minor league reinforcements are a year or two out at minimum. Not sure what the answer is here. I’d love to see a shakeup with the coaching staff before even considering selling, but that’s obviously not happening until the off-season if ever. My guess is Jerry going to force Hahn to stick with this sinking ship and not make any changes until the off-season regardless. Things could get really ugly down the stretch if the team is this team is 10 games or so out at the deadline and does nothing.
