Sox resign Rodon 1 yr /3m official, Vargas DFA
I have a feeling we resign Rodon & Mazara and then add Folty and a vet catcher on minor league deals.

Come on man, that wasn’t in relation to this year’s team. That’s about Jerry’s general refusal to invest in his product to drive attendance and instead needing guaranteed revenue to actually spend appropriately. That’s not how businesses typically work, but given professional sports teams are a unique beast he can get away with it. We are clearly one of the best teams on paper, but our depth is paper thin on the pitching side of things and all it takes is one major injury to the big three for a potential playoff spot to be in serious jeopardy. I’m not going to sit back and be ok with that when our payroll is down YoY and a measly $8M could make a material difference.

I called them a shit product? Please share that post because I’d love to see it. Meanwhile, just in the last hour I stated the team has a roster capable of winning a World Series ?

It’s 2021 and there are people still using batting average as the primary metric to evaluate the effectiveness of hitters...wow

I'm coming around to the Sox starting with the team it has now
You are assuming injuries don’t happen and that’s the problem. It’s only 10 starts from Lopez if everyone else is healthy & productive.

This is absurd. They definitely have a roster capable of winning a World Series on paper, but they got to make the playoffs first and our lack of depth could really hurt us if we get hit with too many injuries or too much underperformance out of a few key spots.

IMO, truly competitive teams should try to avoid developing multiple young starters at the same in the major league rotation. Cease is coming off a horrific season and is a total wild card. I tend to believe he will take a step forward under Katz, but that‘s far from a guarantee. He should be our #5 to enter the season and given every chance to secure a long-term spot. To me, that means Kopech starts in AAA and has to force his way into a rotation spot or come up in the event of injury. He simply can’t be counted on as a full season starter and that means adding another arm, preferably one who can slot in ahead of Cease to start the season. I also think you must plan for injuries and right now we simply lack the depth to survive what should be an ugly season for starting pitchers. That’s my single biggest issue right now with this offseason.

Where is the $3M coming from?

How many competitive teams are relying on guys coming off FIPs in the 6 to 7 range as their #4 & #5 starters to open the season? And it’s shocking that some people keep ignoring the fact Kopech will be on a strict innings limit and won’t have pitched in a competitive game in like 950 days when the season actually starts. That’s a tremendous about of uncertainty at the back of the rotation and all it takes is one major injury to the big three to potentially derail the whole thing. Banking on Katz being our savior instead of adding an arm like Quintana for $8M is simply unacceptable.

You don’t believe they have a budget?

Which is why is why I said we probably wouldn’t be able to get a deal, but the Rockies are one of the dumbest organizations so leaving a sliver of a chance ?

Which is where we’re going to struggle to find a deal that works. Kelley + Thompson + Bailey + Rodriguez doesn’t feel like enough to get a deal done and that’s probably the best package of prospects 20 & under we could put together (excluding Vera) to get a deal done.

Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap

Just an FYI, but I think he has four years of control left.- German Marquez Thread
We are broke...we aren’t taking on Blackmon’s contract. Hell, we probably can’t afford Marquez’s $7.5M salary without Uncle Jerry declaring bankruptcy.- I'm coming around to the Sox starting with the team it has now
Yup. Teams that claim they are trying to win a championship don’t go into the season with Dylan Cease (6.36 FIP) and Lopez (7.63 FIP) as their #4 & #5 starters. They also don’t rely on a kid who hasn’t pitched in 875 days and who is a bit of a head case to be their only major league pitching depth. I’m still optimistic about Stiever, but he has 6.1 innings above A+ and probably needs another full year in the minors. Crochet doesn’t really factor into the rotation mix at all this year. Lambert looks like he will be a reliever going forward. That means we’re going to see a lot of Flores or whatever reclamation projects we sign to minor league deals (Folty) when injuries occur and that sounds fucking fantastic.- Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
What are you talking about? He said that Jerry can’t hold the seat unless he’s making the board happy and that’s not true.- Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
They literlally can’t unseat him from what I hear- Joc to Cubs
Thanks for posting but wow is that terrifying.- Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
He basically has complete control of the White Sox and his partners can’t do much about it.- Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
I admit I chuckled- Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
How about one nine figure deal in our lifetimes? Is that really asking much?- Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
Fuck Rick Hahn for thinking that signing Hendriks over another starter ever made sense...happy now? ? - German Marquez Thread
