  1. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) They wrote this article as though the trade was a 1-1 swap. I agree early results aren't encouraging, but I'm not ready to panic. Lopez was the prize of the trade and he looks as-advertised or better. Dunning i have no idea what's going on
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 10:37 PM) This draft took place a year and a half ago. This is more premature than a virgin on prom night. But is it as premature as the guy taking her to the dance? Cmon now
  3. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) NO offense, but there's no need to be reductive in your argument. Torres has proven something @ high A, whereas The Three Schmucks [Rutherford/Kaprelian/Mateo] have NOT, as I type this. It is fair to note that the Three Schmucks could prove something this year, and become actual prospects, rather than suspects. But until they do, they're A-ball Schmucks who haven't EARNED the roses that the Prospect Industrial Complex types throw at their feet. Look, I think it is fair to want "depth" in the system. But Q is a TOP Asset that DEMANDS TOP Assets in return. Guys who are "top 30-40," based SOLELY on their reputations, and not on their ACTUAL performance are suspects, not prospects. [Again, they can become worthy assets by proving it on the field; Yankee "prospects" are notorious for being over-hyped without any performance to back up their hype.] Middling "reputation-only" types can be throw-ins to a Q trade, or pieces gotten for lesser assets, such as Melky or Frazier. Or, if this front office doesn't go back to their moronic ways of drafting from years ago, depth can be found in the draft. But the original post to which I replied in this thread suggested that: Rutherford [twice-injured in the past ~18 months, and only 130 PA in rookie ball, and similar results to Korey Zangari], Kaprelian [Only 18 IP in A ball, and an elbow injury], and Mateo [inferior results to Tilson @ high A, and inferior to Basabe in Low-A] would be worth the Top tradeable asset in the business. I happen to disagree. If ~3 months of [alleged] wifebeater Chapman = Gleyber Torres, FOUR YEARS of Q is worth Torres ++, period. Again, we just need to be patient. Totally agree. I viewed the Astros prospects without Bregman as highly shmuckish as well. I'm all for shmucks as long as a nonshmuck headlines the deal. Hahn CLEARLY agrees so I doubt we'll be disappointed when the time comes.
  4. I was blown away by TA's defense last year. I had no idea that was coming based on the years of brief scouting reports etc. He can make the plays most guys can't so that kind of makes a deal a no-brainer for me. I look forward to a huge dWAR contribution from him this year.
  5. Great post! That diesel probably helped the forklift lift the pallets and said "i got it from here youngster." How bout all the guys "big truckin it" down here with their dodge rams. Those friggin tow mirrors always out 3 feet to help them see around their ghost trailers.
  6. I feel like there is a machine where you can talk into it with your voice and it outputs what you've said in another voice. Like in spy-related movies. If this technology exists then why can't Hawk stay forever? I think Machine Hawk or Ghost Hawk would satisfy everybody because whoever is talking into the machine can just be like a 3/10 on the Old Curmudgeon Scale instead of a 46.
  7. When does Trump get his Nobel Peace Prize? I was hoping my genitals would win this year but I understand I can't beat out a new President with only a couple hundred days under his belt.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) +1 We'll have to get ready for the bland, professional with stories about numbers. Mercy.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Moving him out of the IF, after he's played there his entire career, and is on course to be an average or above average 2B, would be one of the dumbest f***ing things this org has ever done, and that's saying a lot. Yes. This dude needs to focus on becoming more dangerous at the plate and playing 2B
  10. Yoda congrats man! I just had my first in November and he's the coolest thing ever. We put him to bed every night at 9 but he sure gets pissed every night at 8. Like clockwork almost, just insta-pissed, nothing one can do but walk him. Anybody else with Witching/Arsenic Hour experience? What are some tricks you have all come up with during the years? One of mine is popping the dryer on and walkbouncing him in the laundry room. Powerless to it's lulling charms. Powerless Also the hairdryer track on youtube is just an hour of straight hairdryer sounds. She's used that if he pops up from a nap all pissed.
  11. I think the Rays come in 2nd and make the wild card
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) I wonder if one could manufacture a chocolate popsicle shaped in an organic way and brand it "poopsicle".... I bet it would become a viral success making millions. Who's down? Love everything about this. 2 things: I'd like the jumbo size to be called The Thanksgiving and I'd like an option to come with candy corns.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:44 PM) Didn't he underperform with college educated whites but drove turnout among non college whites bigly? Clinton miscalculated by trying to peel off "moderate" "reasonable" suburban and urban Republicans for sure though. Yes I think I heard this is the first time in history educated people voted Democrat. Could be wrong but that would make sense.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) Is there any chance they give Kevan Smith a position over Narvaez? Looks like an interesting battle between Liriano, Davidson, Leury Garcia, Hayes and Delmonico for that last roster spot. Of course, a lot depends on Tilson's health as well. Are they still playing to play Avi Garcia in RF nearly everyday or put a better defender out there and DH him? I would guess they want to give him this final shot playing in the field, and rotate DH or let one of the names listed above have an extended opportunity (well, probably not Leury there). I want them to cut Soto and play Smith & Narvaez all year. Let's see what we got there once and for all. All freaking year
  15. Haha i know i know but ignore that. What do you guys think about concierge medicine? Ignore the link if you want and just google it. Paying $50-$150/month for better care sounds great to me. I mean I pay $1500 every two months and that's about to go up when I add a new dependent shortly. I don't even go to the f***ing doctor, ever. The only catch is that you'd still need to carry insurance for catastrophic events. Not sure how to get only catastrophic coverage that doesn't suck and is cheap. BUT...Umbehr's argument on POTUS radio today was that if the country went totally concierge, and got insurance entirely out of routine healthcare, then prices for catastrophic insurance-only would plummet. Insurance companies would still be happy because they'd be making 100% profit on like 90% of policies, much like auto insurance, renters, home-owners etc. To me that's way closer to a free market answer. True competition, WAY better care. Then all the govt has to do is work with the states to fund medicaid. I mean the way we are headed with Obamacare or now GOPcare is implosion. Nobody is going to go to the doctor in 5-10 years except the rich & the poor. The majority are going to grt f***ed and then single payer appears as the nail in the coffin.
  16. I just heard this doctor on the radio. Seems like a genius. At least the premise of his model seems smart to me. This is an old article but it still sums up his idea more or less. What are some of your thoughts on it? https://www.theobjectivestandard.com/2013/0...mine-obamacare/ He doesn't seem partisan. He's just one of the thousands of pissed doctors but it seems like he actually did something to help people get care.
  17. Can somebody explain how this plan would drop 15M Americans? I thought anybody who signs on to Medicaid through 2020 gets grabdfathered forever or until they leave the program. Where's the drop
  18. Nice! Obamacare replaced with Obamacare. This is going to piss off the base big time. I don't see why Democrats are pissed at all- this is still going to be a hemorrhaging pile of govt waste. Now they don't have to be responsible. There's nothing bold about it. There's nothing republican about it. Quit trying to rush this s***. Back to the drawing board, take your time & get it right.
  19. Play devil's advocate for a second. What if Assange was telling the truth? That Russia or any state was not the source of the leaks. I know minds are already made up, but just as a fun exercise. What would that mean?
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 5, 2017 -> 07:39 PM) I can't figure out Comey. Basically submarines Hillary at the last second of the election, now seems to be driving pretty hard against Trump Maybe he's the toughest non-partisan SOB in Washington.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 5, 2017 -> 06:41 AM) Wag the Dog Every single day I think about that movie. I honestly think you can replace Albania with Russia. The whole Russia thing just stunk of diversion when it came out a day after ol HillyClins got hacked & embarrassed. Now look what it has become: McCarthy 2.0 and the peace & love half of the country wants to start WW3, wants blood almost every day. Well that's what makes me think of WTD, what about you? What made you mention it? I really think a person shouldn't be able to comment on politics unless they've seen wag the dog ?
  22. In my forty fifty sixty years in the game, I have never seen a better collection of young impact arms. Not just arms...impact arms Stoney.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) Completely different situations. In your scenario the Sox were approaching some theoretical payroll threshold, whereas the Sox should have minimal payroll commitments entering the epic 2018/2019 free agent period. What exactly do you think Reinsdorf will do? Not allow Hahn to sign free agents above a certain AAV or for a certain amount of years? I just don't see it unless Hahn is looking to sign an elite pitcher to a crazy long-term contract. Otherwise, I expect Hahn to a fair amount of autonomy on how he spends his budget. Yes I agree. When your opening day payroll projects to be $20-$30M, you have some wiggle room.
  24. Bold prediction: Hansen is the #1 prospect in baseball after 2017. Top 10 for sure.
  25. Hey Oldsox was this last era of Sox baseball the most exciting in your lifetime? Pretty much a chance to win the WS every year since 2000ish.
