Not sure about others but the cubs have been absolutely terrible at drafting under that new FO. Bryant was a layup. Outside of that- I don’t see anything spectacular

I’m probably going to forget about Daniel “DFA” Palka in couple years. Good luck anywhere else man. -

I don’t think it’s a total crap shoot. There are advantages to being the best team. There are advantages to having some balance. But overall I agree. I just think dominant teams can be built- and the White Sox might be doing it. -

For sure. Our core is better and it’s balanced. That will make all the difference -
Two Sides to the Trade & Free Agent Coin

I think you touched on the point that bothers most of us- it’s that the trade was for James Shields. Now most of us will admit that there isn’t even one person on these boards smart enough to be a GM- everyone here would be an absolute disaster. But shit, I’m actually as close to 100% confident as I can be that not one of us would have traded for James Shields for anything more than taking on his salary. He was getting bombed. There was no upside. It was obvious he sucked. It it led us here. To this beautiful rebuild full of talent that will make everyone forget Tatis. “Where’s he gonna play?” -

I think Fulmer is going to figure it out as a reliever. Seemed like he was trying to ace every pitch or make sure he missed away from the heart cuz it was extras. He looked close and I’ve mever seen him hit 96 so cmon Carson! -

If today doesn’t make you wanna see Robert, Madrigal & maybe a bionic arm strapped on to Kopech, not sure what will, ya know? -

It’s pretty worthless compared to what they could have gotten for him. He’s a 1.5-2WAR defensive liability outfielder- something you try to upgrade if you want to win championships. My theory is they want to trade Collins before his value craters, exactly like Schwarber’s did to a frickin T- you can’t argue his value didn’t crumble into tiny crumbly pieces of manure. Now Collins doesn’t get the initial value pump that Schwarber got for playoff heroics, which is fair enough, but point remains. He’s gone as part of a package by Jul 31. Willing to wager a $20 Amazon Prime delivery of your choice for fun, maybe I get some odds though for unlikelihood?? ????♂️ -

You answered the question! they are going to trade him in the next couple weeks. It’s what the cubs should have done with Schwarber after 2016. Now that fat piece of crap is worthless. I think they want to trade him before his value craters. -
My thoughts are that his high pedigree allows us all to chill out. Now if he misses next year too then officially start the worry clock.

Lotta conclusions here. Curious why the lost 2 years and age matter at all?

The team is naturally going to be better unfortunately for your preference. -
Dude I totally get your point and agree. That’s why I was saying Harper was the better fit, even if he wasn’t worth the contract. We look to be an outfielder short for next year. The rest of the spots are filled. I won’t pile on with more “he wouldn’t be the exact, technically 3rd best player on our team. How dare you!” talk.

Agree with every Ricky decision tonight easily. -
Is this to build value and trade him? That’s the only way this makes sense to me. Chances of that working seem about zero.

I like the negative use of lumberjacks

Didn’t he catch last night?

I think Hahn is going to trade for a core pitching piece in the next month- something to tell the guys, “Hey we appreciate you kicking ass, here’s somebody for now and the future.”
