Thomas, Appling, Lyons, and Konerko.

In the 1990s I was a Cubs fan because that is whom my dad liked. We had always visited Chicago growing up and I had always heard the beauty and aura of Wrigley Field (had never gone until a few years ago). As I got older and become more independent, my mom bought me White Sox shirts from the local Value City and it just kind of stuck.

Has there been any kind of rumours as of late or?

Who should the Sox get to replace Myers?

QUOTE (Sox1 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) There isn't many great options out there. He isn't even a good option. -

Dude had a WHIP of 1.54 in 2012. PASS. -
QUOTE (staxx @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) Dunn/Reynolds/Flowers in the same lineup? hide me. His OBP is decent enough, its not as good as Youk's, but he should rebound with the power number. I would take him.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) I hope they spend lots of money doing it too. Agreed, if they're willing to lock up $90MM on 5 players, I won't stop them. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) It needs to be at least three hours before the game. Have a team museum, autograph signings by former players, contests, inside and outside activities. Get people in the park and spending money early. Team museum would be sweet. Isn't the one they have now only for Scout Seating?

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?
nickofypres replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Depending on how much New York eats, I don't know, couldn't be all that bad could it? I guess after Dunn is gone you could move him to DH. He's not putting up terrible numbers (112 OPS+), but its going more, and more, downhill every year. -
I think too, we have a lot of big contracts left (Konerko, Rios, Dunn) and if we don't re-sign Youk and Peavy, we're going to be an expensive 70-80 win team. Wouldn't the Sox be better off bringing back and spending the extra $ to field a winner?

how would YOU fix the sox attendance woes?
nickofypres replied to ewokpelts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I live in Ohio and don't get to go to a lot of games. But I eat tickets, so they get their money from me (I don't buy from stubhub either, I buy directly from the Sox). Lower ticket prices Lower parking prices Up the ante with gifts/prizes/giveaways. 25th thousand person at the park gets to throw out first pitch or something that would get a lot of people to come out in hopes of winning a cool prize like a year supply of Pepsi, or a new car or something. $10 general admission for the upper deck. $15 general admission for the bleachers. I would even say attack the Cubs if you have to. I don't have any personal resentment towards the Cubs or Wrigley Field or anything, but why not launch ads that attack their "lovable loser" ways, or "why would you want to go to rundown Wrigley when we have a brand new(ish), modern, clean, stadium!". Stuff like that. "Look, guys, WE ended the baseball drought in this city, what the **** have they ever done for you?". Maybe even incentive people to come. If you have a ticket to a game where the attendance was over 30K, bring in your ticket and get 50% another game. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 04:53 AM) Scutaro is likely to fall off, he's too old and you're going to pay him more than he's worth coming off a strong season. This also forces you to move Beckham to 3B, where he's just average defensively. And then you're going to wind up with a net slight defensive downgrade and definitely an offensive downgrade from YOUK at 3B and Beckham at 2B. You need more power from your middle infielders to win at USCF, IMO. The theory was to re-sign Youkilis and bench Beckham.
-
I also wouldn't be opposed to signing Marco Scutaro for second base. 156 games had an OBP of .348. Defense takes a hit though, his UZR was -5.6, Beckham was -0.7.
-
Too bad Akinori Iwamura never kept up his production. His first two years he had an OBP of .353, then just kind of went down the drain.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Gavin is what he is at this point. He's a solid middle of the rotation starter who definitely has more value than people on here give him credit for. That being said, he's not going to all the sudden become a top of the rotation starter and if you can get good value for him then you move him This. If Floyd is your #4 or #5 your rotation isn't in bad shape.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) With having four lefties potentially able to be in the rotation next year (Danks, Sale, Santiago, and Quintana) could Kenny look to sell high on Jose Quintana? We all saw what happened with Phil Humber this year, and guys like Gavin Floyd who never took that next big step. If the Sox could bring back Peavy that would set the Sox up with six men in the rotation (without even talking about someone like Axelrod). If you trade Quintana, it resets the rotation with only three lefties and two righties. Outside of Sale, Quintana might well have the highest trade value of any pitcher on this team because of his age and his contract status. Thinking out loud here, but could a team out there be interested in selling on a young/cheap 3B in a package for Quintana? If so, should Kenny be interested? Interesting thought. I actually thought about the same with Viciedo in regards to the bolded.

Doubt he leaves, but I've always been a fan of the Yankees' Ken Singleton (fills in for Michael Kay) http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10296381

Probably get ripped to shreds for this: Decline Peavy, try to bring back at reasonable price Decline Youkilis, try to bring back at reasonable price Decline Meyers, try to bring back at reasonable price Try to sign right handed starter Pick up Floyd's option Try to dump Rios, don't worry about return, getting rid of the money is worth it alone Let Liriano walk Let AJ Walk, time to see if Flowers is the real deal If no Peavy go for a solid RHH (Greinke? Doubt it though), Haren, Edwin Jackson, If no Youk, try to snatch Mark Reynolds, or David Wright (0% chance of that, though). Morel? (*sigh*) If no Meyers, go for Dotel or Lyons. If Rios is dumped try for Cody Ross, or Nick Swisher (will probably want a bank, so probably not going to happen) Bring back Conor Jackson Rotation: Sale, Haren/Greinke/Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Quintana Bullpen: Reed, Thornton, Crain, Meyers/Dotel/Lyon, Santiago (long man), Veal, Jones, Omogrosso/whoever Line up: DeAza-Youk-Dunn-Konerko-Swisher-Viciedo-Flowers-Ramirez-Beckham / DeAza-Youk-Dunn-Konerko-Viciedo-Ross-Flowers-Ramirez-Beckham Bench: Danks-Pheghly-Conor Jackson (1B/3B/LF/RF), Olmedo (

I actually like having a DH who can hit bombs.

Ozzie coming back would be a train wreck.

Sox were really goofy that year. Seems like they'd go on the road and go 1-5, then come home and sweep the home stand. Like this year, a lot of things went right, Floyd and Danks had break out seasons, Contreras came back and had a good year (I think that was after his Achilles imploded). The offense was hit and miss, like this year, but everyone bounced back after 2007 where the whole team seemed to slump. In 2007 the bullpen lost , like, 21 games or something, next year the pen was solid (even Linebrink had a good year). Incredible.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) I love it how we have such a wonderful consensus on how is and isn't a good baseball announcer. I'm just making an observation so please do not take offense or think that I am singling you out. As for me, I don't believe I've ever had the pleasure of listening to Sutton call a game. None taken, but listen to this: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19748777 I would hate to listen to this.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) Move Viciedo back to third. His bat plays a lot better there and it's a rebuild anyway. I would be more willing to move him back to first after Konerko leaves. I can't imagine him at third being all that impressive, I'm sure its better than Miguel Cabrera, but that isn't really saying much.
