No, the problem is that the MLBPA thinks all these contracts should be exceeded by Machado/Harper deals, otherwise the word collusion applies.

I once thought that the collusion talk would never have happened if not for the stupid contract the Marlins gave Stanton. Two other gigantic contracts to Pujois and Cabrera could be more easily rationalized. MLPBA believes that these contracts should automatically be exceeded.

I think we should push Robert as fast as we can to get him to the majors as quickly as possible. Most folks here like to use the "not rush them" theory. IOW, give them 5 years or so in the minors to "develop", like Eloy. Not me, at least not with this kid. Get him up to Chicago ASAP. There are plenty of other studs who flew through the minors, because they were good enough. Trout, Soto, Machado, Harper are obvious examples.

IIRC, the same Drew, later in his career, sat out half a season before succumbing and signing with someone.

I would go the other way and try baseball first, at least for 2019. He might not be good enough, and, if so, it would show pretty quickly. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he played 2 years of college ball. First year, he didn't hit. Second year, last year, he hit in the .290's with 12 or so homers and a lot of speed. I am often amazed how tough pro baseball is. Every year there are players drafted who hit really well in college and really struggle as soon as they go pro, even in low minors. If he plays baseball this year and doesn't do well, missing one year of football won't hurt him. Losing a year or three of baseball would really set him back if he plays football in 2019-20.

Phan has pretty good credentials. I like him. Meadows -- not so sure. I thought Meadows was more of a CF prospect, not sure about that other guy (CFer) who used to be good and got hurt last year. Can't remember his name. Who cares? I just want a third sacker, a center fielder, and another SP.

I remember Teahen for two reasons. One, he owned Mark Buerhle when he played for KC, and two, his wife posted on SoxTalk when he was lampooned here.

He signed for something north of $4 Million. He got a check for half, and the other half is due March 1st. Spring Training report date is approx. mid Feb. It's not a big deal if he misses the NFL Combine. Draft is end of April. He can play minor league baseball for 2-3 months and keep everyone guessing. Talk show hosts will love it.
