Davidson intends to enjoy reset button
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) well i didn't think he would break camp with the sox, considering his performance last yr. however, i would like to see how he does during the season. Duh. I think we all do.

Brad Penny touching 94, leading candidate for 5th starter
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) I don't know what scares me more, the bottom of the White Sox starting rotation, or the bottom of the White Sox bullpen. I'm convinced that this White Sox team is going to be able to hit. Top to bottom, this lineup is going to score alot of runs. With this pitching staff, this team is going to have to score a ton of runs to make the the 2015 Playoffs. Don't judge the merits of the pitching staff on a few March games in AZ. If they continue to get knocked around 30 days from now, then your fears are justified.

Davidson intends to enjoy reset button
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Well, yeah, but Tim Anderson was in AA. Davidson had already had a successful cup of tea and 1 year in AAA when we acquired him. I'm not penciling in all prospects, but he seemed like a pretty sure thing. Slight exaggeration there.

RIP Minnie Minoso
Keith Olbermann had a stirring tribute to Minnie today.

RIP Minnie Minoso
I remember when Sox got Minnie in 1951, and how he captivated the city and especially Sox fans. To this day I use variations of his name in many of my passwords, so I think of him often. He was a dandy. Funny how he and Ernie Banks died so close together in time. RIP.

Chris Sale has a foot injury
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Even if he's not back for Opening Day, it's not an arm injury. I'm not that worried about it. I remember when Dizzy Dean hurt his toe, then it effected his delivery, and the arm was next to go.

Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
At least the Cubs didn't get him.

Samardzija Extension?
QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) Even if we are in contention at the trade deadline, Shark could be traded for some quality prospects. Geez, I hope it doesn't come down to that -- trading Shark for prospects next June. If that happens, I'm certain the prospects offered will not be as good as Bassitt, Ravelo, and Semien.

July 2nd (2015) prospects
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 12:29 AM) I am opposed to an international draft but I do want stricter rules when it comes to spending money and harsher penalties when those rules are broken. It shouldn't be allowed that a team can just have the INTL that the Yankees did. Why do you not want an Int'l draft?

Hawk on the Score with Mully & Hanley this morning
One of Hawk's underlying philosophies when he was running the show was that you could not work for the White Sox unless you were a former big league ballplayer. Pretty hard headed way of thinking. There are lots of very good baseball executives, announcers, scouts, traveling secretaries, etc, scattered around baseball who were never big leaguers, including our guy who is running things.

Longoria & Will Myers
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) I was just thinking on my home from class today. Say the Sox are in contention and Longoria becomes available. What do you think it would take to get him without giving up Rodon? I think I would give up Davidson, Montas, Anderson and Danish for him. Would that be enough? Once again, I'm just thinking out loud here. Yes, it would likely be enough. I would give up those guys for Trout; no one else that I can think of offhand.

Farewell to Dayan Viciedo

Jose Abreu predictions for 2015!
Barring injury, this kid might hit better than Frank, IMO. He won't necessarily get the same career numbers, because he got a later start in the bigs. But we will be looking at several MVP type seasons.

July 2nd (2015) prospects
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) This will turn into an international draft soon enough. I hope you are correct, but then I don't know what you mean by 'soon enough'. The next collective bargaining agreement? When is that? Next year or two, I believe. MLB has had the issue on the table twice before, and they always capitulated. Let's face it, the Players' negotiators are smarter than the Owners' negotiators. At least, they are more effective. They will fight hard on this issue.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) I think a lot has to go right for Hawkins to be anywhere near the player many of thought he had a chance to be coming into 2013. I doubt he is any better than Viciedo offensively. Probably much worse. I said stuff like that 18 months ago; now there are two of us.

July 2nd (2015) prospects
MLB has to fix this system of signing int'l players.

Farewell to Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) Yes I am. They are on the hook for 15%. That is it. Okay, I stand corrected. Tks.

Farewell to Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) He doesn't. They paid a touch over $700k to release him. Are you telling me that the Sox are not on the hook for Viciedo's salary?

Farewell to Dayan Viciedo
How does Hahn explain to JR the $4MM++ price tag he put on Viciedo? It's like paying $6MM to Gordo.

Buddy Bell on mlb now
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) If that's the case, why is Thome wasting time in this nebulous "special assistant" position he's in and instead learning the finer points of the craft by managing one of the team's minor league teams? Must the only criteria for a White Sox manager be simply "Former Sox player/Reinsdorf favorite/no prior managerial experience"? He probably feels as if he does not need that miinor league experience, that he will get that experience in his first year or two of managing in the big leagues. I agree with your recommendation, but baseball's stars don't feel that way anymore.
