QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:20 PM) Exactly what I was thinking. Miggy's hit is the entire reason it should stay.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1873295...rn-chicago-cubs He honest to god sounds like Trump (Note: No political discourse here. Just making an observation. Any desire to discuss it based on political merits shall be taken to the Buster.)

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) This works out better for us getting him if he ends up going somewhere between #5-10, because I really really doubt we can even secure a top 3 pick honestly, let alone #1. However, I didn't realize Beer was put at 1B now. I thought I had heard he was a decent corner OF due to his big arm. Maybe something like a Melky or Nelson Cruz out there. Yeah if he isn't the 1-1 and slips to us I'm cool with that.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) Minnie captivated me when he joined the Sox in 1951. I was pretty young, but old enough to know we had something special. I still use his name on various passwords. While looking through the archives of papers, my favorite quote about him in 1951 is that he had "catchers around the league jumping more than a Communist at a Senate hearing"

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) Jayson Stark @jaysonst 32s A team that has been talking with the White Sox says they've been waiting for Nats to sign Wieters to rekindle David Robertson trade talks Here we go again.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) When Trump stated that he could shoot a random person on 5th Ave and still get support, he's talking about people like brett. Funny that some of you still interact with him. I could get receipts, but nah.

<!--quoteo(post=3484166:date=Feb 20, 2017 -> 12:01 PM:name=raBBit)--> QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) <!--quotec-->Okay. I am less concerned with the testimonial stuff and more concerned with palpable action. Kinda reminds of this Spongebob episode with people freaking out about stuff Trump hasn't even done yet: . The media and the treatment of journalists is a very important issue to me too and especially since the media has basically lost all of its journalistic roots. I was very much upset with President Obama's treatment of the media. Whether you're on the left or the right President Obama went after journalists on both sides. If you're on the left - Glenn Greenwald got pushed out to Brazil and they held his boyfriend captive for a while. Laura Poitras got pushed out to Germany. Michael Hastings was investigated by the FBI up until the day he died. If you're on the right, Andrew Breitbart and his coroner ended up dead shortly after he attacked Obama. Dnesh Dzsousa (spelling? I don't know him much) was subjected to specific enforcement of campaign law because of his opposition to Pres. Obama. President Obama used the Espionage Act more than all other Presidents combined. The Committee to Protect Journalists called Pres. Obama's administration "the most aggressive" since Nixon's admin. If you don't like Trump's rhetoric, that's fine, and I would never defend it anyways. But the fact that you're preemptively attacking for Trump for something he hasn't even done is a bit confusing. Especially when all of my complaints towards Pres. Obama's admin against the press were disputed heavily around here. If we're all being honest, if Trump and Sessions actually wanted to restrict the media (which remains to be seen), Pres. Obama's administration has laid the groundwork for them. Hell, for the sake of continuity, if it was their plan to restrict the media, the best course of action would be to adopt the Obama administration's policy from the go. I'm attacking him for calling the "media" the enemy of the people and constantly undermining us. Every single organization, other than Fox News. It's led to a number of death threats for run-of-the-mill reporters. Journalism hasn't lost its roots. The pundits on the networks, maybe. But the Post, Times and even Teen Vogue are on a roll journalistically. Poitras is in NYC and is a star in the documentary world right now. She's come to Mizzou twice in the past two years. I'm a fan of Poitras. Greenwald, possibly. But we've debated this in the past. Greenwald is also someone that has possibly been "losing his roots" so that he can just attack any establishment, to the point where he'll go on Tucker Carlson and circlejerk their hate of the "mainstream media." Breitbart, that's a conspiracy theory. Obama wasn't great to journalists, that's true, but he never called us enemies of the people and tried to get the public against us. Hell, Fox News is preferring Obama to Trump in this case.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) By the way, with all this "tanking" going on, it is only a matter of time until the NBA legitimately changes its lottery process. I know there has been talk in recent years, but it is getting worse and the NBA is going to be forced to do something. I don't know if they will go as drastic as some of the proposals out there (with teams kind of having a calendar of picks) or if it will be something more simple, such as teams can't have a top 5 pick 3 years in a row (or something along those lines). Once a full, 30 team D-League/G-League is established, I'd like to see Bill Simmon's 14 team tournament to get the first pick.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) In Duncan's rookie season (97-98), both players were pretty damn good. That said, I think Davis / Cousins is one of the best front courts in a long long time. It will be interesting how they share the ball/dynamic. Hell, Marc Gasol and Zbo is one of the best front courts of the last 15 years, haha. This is essentially Gasol and Z-Bo on crack.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Kind of late on this one, but I was really disappointed by Jeremy Scahill bucking Bill Maher's show. I have long been a fan of Scahill and was really happy Maher barked back at him. If I am in Scahill's position, I would be embarrassed for myself. Scahill made his career off attacking the deep state and being a real journalist and one of the only ones left at that. He's had no problem showing up to Bill Maher's show in the past when Maher donated 1M to Pres. Obama or when Maher regularly haves neo-con guests solely because they support his anti-Islam agenda and this gay dude from Britain, who's done nothing in action, is where Scahill draws the line. Really sad. Yeah, Maher and Milo are both assholes, just on opposite ends of the spectrum (and Maher doesn't like, advocate violence). It's no shock they got along and anyone dipping because of Milo is kinda meh.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) I would take the over on wins for most of the teams mentioned. Reds will be better this year than last, so will Brewers. My sneaky pick for worst team would probably be the Marlins, they are a good candidate for star heavy team that injuries would destroy because they have no depth. Padres though, I'm just talking myself into them being better and good enough to lose 1st overall. AJ Preller doesn't deserve nice things. Sox benefit from being the only real tanking team in the AL, except maybe the A's. But they have to get rid of Q, Jones, Robertson. Eventually Melky and Frazier as well.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Has Trump's admin extended any legislation to thwart the medias powers/rights? Serious question. I haven't been following closely. He hasn't (yet?), but by stoking these flames it's definitely creating a dangerous atmosphere. Journalists have been threatened at his rallies. I had students threatened last semester at the GOP watch party.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 08:17 AM) The scary thing is that his supporters have no problem with his lies. This is completely out of the norm, Trump constantly lies, it's like it's completely natural for him. I'm not sure if he is deliberately lying or if he is delusional enough to actually believe the lies he's spewing. The guy scares the s*** outta me, I believe he's so way out there that a military conflict is inevitable. My dad's paralegal voted Trump. I told her if I get attacked/sued over the next four years for being a part of the media that it's on her.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I'm listening to espn 1000. Hearing A LOT of GMs are PISSED. They had no idea it would take so little to get a top 8 player in the game. The Wizards for example could've given up Otto Porter+ that would've been better than what the Pelicans gave up. Damn near any team could have beat that. Did Vivek watch a Hield college reel and become enamored?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) I guess he'll spend most of the games telling stories about the past and commenting on the minor leaguers then. I always thought he hated the idea of broadcasting horrific baseball. Nah, he's the #1 hype man Sanchez, Morel, etc., Hawk loves them all. He actually talks about this on Garfien's White Sox Talk podcast, you should check it out

Gio Gonzalez is basically the only player Kenny traded that amounted to being worth a damn. Unless we're gonna pine for Chris Carter.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) They finished 12 games out of a playoff spot so they needed help, but it's funny to think how different this could all be if Adam Dunn didn't have the worst season in the 140 year history of baseball. It's crazy when you remember he was an All-Star the next season.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) I really wanna know how Hawk handles the rebuild/s***ty teams the next three years. Doing only road games, he's going to be broadcasting probably 7 losses every 10 games. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is interested in following daily progress of minor leaguers. The guy played in the bigs for 20 seasons. He doesn't give a flip about minor league baseball is my guess. Hawk f***ing loves minor leaguers.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 01:42 AM) Theo took over the cubs in 2011 and that's pretty much when their rebuild started. Theo had his work cut out for him due to the horrible contracts Hendry left in his wake, namely Soriano and Dumpster who's contracts made them difficult to trade. Once those contracts were gone, which required them to eat money to be rid of them, the pace of their rebuild did pick up but it still took a good 4-5 years. Trading Sale and Eaton has already put the Sox ahead of the cubs/Astros rebuild pace. Imagine how much further along the Sox will be when Q is traded. There's potential to move even further along if the Sox are able to get some kind of value for Robertson, Frazier and possibly Jones at the deadline. Now add the June draft and July intl signings and the Sox organization will be in really good shape going into next winter. And that's not counting guys the Sox drafted prior to the rebuild. Rodon, Anderson, Collins, Hansen, Fulmer and others have them a good starting point for a rebuild and trading their valuable assets will make it even faster
