  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 29, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) And this is exactly the major misconception about this year's three top 50 picks. It does not matter if the front office making the selection is the same one who has screwed up so many picks over the last two decades. I have quite a bit of confidence in Nick Hostetler, I his first year running that show.
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ May 29, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) True and False. False, people are working those hours. True employers are not paying overtime. They put the employees on salary so they do not have to pay the overtime, yet they know the person will put in those hours to keep their jobs. Well, Obama just turned that on it's head. Should have said I was thinking along the lines after this law got passed. http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/cnsnew...st-pay-salaried
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 29, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) Limbaugh has it right. You can't criticize Obama or you are racist. Hillary won't be criticized in her eight years cause she is the first female president. That sure hasn't stopped anyone from criticizing Obama.
  4. I love my Bernie Bros friends that are basically saying their votes matter more and Bernie should be nominated, because Hillary clearly cannot defeat Trump. Bernie appears perfect because no one has been targeting him. I have a feeling the right-wing political machine would be able to rip him apart. Then again, I also thought Trump wouldn't be nominated.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) I appreciate this post and your heartfelt commentary. I do have a question. You are right about Millenials wanting to balance work life and home life and they don't want to work 60-70-80 hours a week like we do. My question is ... how do you handle this now? It's going to be a while before Millenials are in charge of all the companies and can make sure their employees have a lot of free time/vacation time. How do you survive in the interim. I hear law offices are making the Millenials work just as much as the older folks are used to. Are Millenials quitting their jobs once they realize the jobs control their lives completely? This mixing and matching of generations would appear to hurt the Millenials because they will quit or be fired when the old codgers put amzing demands on their time. I worked 30 hours a week on top of 10 hours of grad school. Many people do tbat. And you're over estimating how many people work this mythical 70-80 hour work week happily. For starters, no employer is paying that much overtime
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) I should add that what makes me upset about the attitude of "I just worked hard to compensate so you should work hard to compensate" is the things we are talking about (tuition, housing costs) are affected by policy. And if people view any attempts to improve them as just accommodating whiners, things are only going to get worse, and the amount of money being sucked up into unproductive places like land and administrative university costs, will affect growth in your industries. I'm getting my masters in 5.5 years of college and currently interning at the fastest growing industry newsroom. Right now things are positive, but with just my undergrad it was looking like a nightmare job market.
  7. As someone with epilepsy who has dealt with loved ones getting brain damage, not much you can do. Be supportive. If she's in the hospital a lot, maybe bring some coffee or food.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ May 27, 2016 -> 05:34 AM) My daughter's current boyfriend is someone she met through one of the apps. It wasn't Tindr, I'm forgetting which one. Bumble?
  9. You'd think Draymond's kicks would get watched now.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2016 -> 12:29 AM) This thread just went off the rails. Greg, who do you consider "unbiased" sources, because Limbaugh and McCain are definitely not that. However, in fairness, the McCains as a family are seemingly much more progressive than 90-95% of Republicans. She's not in that right-wing inflammatory category with the likes of Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter. Breibart, The Daily Caller and LawrenceApplebeesPolling.com
  11. Greg works in a college town and doesn't know how student loans work. Amazing.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) Honestly, when it comes to marriage, the personality matters so much more. Lets face reality, people are going to age so looks aren't everything. Now I fully believe you have to have that physical chemistry but the emotional chemistry is so critical (along with communication) to a successful and happy marriage. But what do I know...presuming nothing crazy happens in the next 2 days, I'll just be on 6 years (which is nothing). But when you have kids, you better be able to communicate and get along emotionally, etc. I feel that kids are the absolute hardest part of a marriage (such a big adjustment to your overall lives and a ton more added stress, etc). Not all stress is bad and kids are worth it, but if you can't emotionally connect before and get along and communicate extremely well before kids, etc, good luck after kids. We had the emotonal connection first. We were worried that we wouldn't have physical chemistry, but fortunately we did right away after deciding to date.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) I pretty much knew when I started dating my wife that I'd end up marrying her (we were good friends for a long time so I knew the personality was a fit and that combined with the spark we had worked out well so far). Of course I was always the type who didn't see any value getting into an actual relationship (i.e., girlfriend vs. casual dating) with someone unless I saw some long-term potential. Also the same way. We knew going in that neither of us were the fling type.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 26, 2016 -> 01:26 AM) Quin, you are a very intense guy it seems. Way too organized. Why are you mapping this out so every detail is covered? It's either meant to be or it isn't. I wish you the best but from what I have learned if she meets some guy she is fiercely attracted to, you may be out of luck during the long distance relationship. If she doesn't meet anybody, you are still in. Now if you are incredibly good looking and built, which you may very well be, and you are hotter to women than 95 percent of anybody they come into contact with, you are safe. Because we were close friends, then realized we want another We mapped it out because my life schedule is rigid with school, so now we know when we'll see each other. And she's turned down guys more attractive than me, not everyone is vain and chasing just looks.
  15. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 25, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) Id imagine he means pick a date to end the long distance part of the relationship. Ding ding ding.
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ May 25, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) Whew, thats a heavy subject to be talking about in the very beginning of a relationship but some people handle it better than others. My concern would be that you put too high of expectations on a relationship from the very start and it can be more pressure on you both than what is necessary. We know it is. And we're stressing that everything we talk about I'd based on an "if". Also helps that we've been close friends for a bit. But it definitely scared us each until we talked it through. QUOTE (knightni @ May 25, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Hard to find good women as a journalist, huh? I succeded so far.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 24, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) New mock: 10. OF Blake Rutherford (slot) 27. SS Gavin Lux (under slot, projected to go lower) 49. 3B Carter Kieboom (over slot) I'd love Rutherford and Lux.
  18. Relevant to previous conversation, but long distance relationships take their toll. Smart phones help immensely, but I just got in I've such relationship and the critical things we've hit on include... 1) Making sure we talk almost every day on the phone 2) Have a date for it to end, so once I'm done with school. 3) Plan out the visits. We just scheduled a visit every month for the next year last night. 4) Intent. She and I agreed you don't get in these relationships without the endgame being marriage. Her sister got mad and said we're moving too fast, but we've been good friends for quite some time it helps.
  19. 2 hour commutes suck
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 24, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) Would absolutely laugh if Golden State loses to OKC. All of the media and fans were convinced they were unstoppable, better than 72-10 Bulls, dynasty, etc. But mostly, f*** Draymond.
  21. The only reason Hillary is in this is because she has thicker skin than everyone else.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 20, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) Civil War crosses the 1 billion dollar mark That answers the questin of super hero movies slowing down or not.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) To be fair, a guy like Ed Walsh is a Hall of Famer. That is one hell of a standard, and Chris Sale isn't there yet. Exactly

QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 20, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) Pitching across eras is really hard. Harder than batting even, but it's really hard to argue with longevity with one team. If Sale has real post-season success, it's a no brainer. If Sale signs here past his current contract, it's a no-brainer when he reaches the late point in his career. However, if the organization fails to make the postseason during Sale's tenure and he signs elsewhere (the latter of which seems fairly likely), he'll trail the likes of Buehrle and Lyons. I don't think it's a stretch to say he's the most talented pitcher we have ever had. Easily the most talented, yes. I just dislike when people forget the past.
