Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Semi-related, but Abreu is learning more and more English so that he can get endorsement opportunities. In Chicago.

Sox Claim OF Daniel Fields off Waivers from Dodgers
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) So between him, Sands and Olt, who would be most likely to be the 25th man? Or does anyone think as of now, Sanchez is the platoon guy with LaRoche (keeping Frazier at third or moving Lawrie to third with other DHing)? Obviously I know they aren't done with the starting lineup or bench but it's a hypothetical season starts tomorrow scenario. Shuck will almost certainly be the 4th OF.

Giants to sign Denard Span, 3yrs 31 mil
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) I honestly think it's down to the O's, Nationals, and Sox. I just can't see the Angels or Tigers signing one of the big OFers with their luxury tax concerns. I guess it's possible that they could, but it seems unlikely. Hopefully the O's sign Davis to his mega deal.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) Which of the brothers Upton has the reputation of being a high talent, low work ethic dog? I know I have heard it, but for some reason can not recall if it is Justin or Melvin. I tried a search but each is maligned for various reasons. Melvin/BJ.

Ken Griffey gets 99.32% of Hall of Fame vote. Highest ever.
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) seems to be misinformation he's not a voter Dang. Got that from a friend. Edit - He just sent me this: ... apparently that was from somebody who got purged from the voter rolls and the BBWAA site f***ed up by posting it. GG BBAA

One of the non-Griffey ballots. Fantastic trolling job. Marc Maturo - Lifetime Honorary - Bonds Clemens Raines

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) Jenks, we get it, your entirety of bulls fandom is being pissed off that rose destroyed his knees and is not openly talking about how he's a terrible player. He should not be fined every time he shoots a 3. He has halved his 3PA this year. He's trying. K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop 16h16 hours ago Rose joked about pressure he felt returning and not messing up chemistry during previous 4 wins. Rose on Butler: "He’s balling right now. So keep going to him until he doesn’t want the ball anymore." Rose on Butler: "I’m happy for him. To improve the way he is improving and being on my team, it’s good. I don’t really have to do too much." What an asshole that Derrick Rose is.

Baseball America White Sox top 10 list
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) That puts him at the bottom of the top 1/4 of SS. That's what an org is looking for out of their top prospect? I'm looking for an all star, frankly. And if 3 WAR is what his is, that's certainly not worth the combined value of Montas, Thompson and Micah who will assuredly exceed that. (they'll likely exceed Frazier's WAR as well). Montas, Thompson and Micah are not assured to exceed that. Each has an elite tool: Montas - fastball, Thompson - defense, Micah - speed. Each has a crippling flaw: Montas - third pitch, Thompson - contact, Micah - defense. I'd love to see all three succeed, as well as Frazier, because it helps the Sox farm system reputation and by all accounts they're pretty great guys.

2016 Hall of Fame
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) Yeah, it will be BS if Ortiz gets in, and the others don't. I do want to see consistency. And if I had to guess, Ortiz will cause he has a nice smile, won three with the Red Sox and broke their curse and starred in a commercial where he pleaded Wally to not go cry.

2016 Hall of Fame
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) There is not just suspicion surrounding Manny. He was busted, twice. Zero chance he gets in the Hall of Fame. Vlad should be in but if I don't think he makes it first ballot. For whatever reason Pudge seems to be one of these guys, like Ortiz, that everybody knows used PEDs but for whatever reason just seem to ignore it. I think his case will be interesting though I don't think he gets in first ballot. That's the thing. If Pudge and ESPECIALLY Ortiz get in, then there's zero reason to not include Bonds, Clemons and others.

**2016 Films Thread**
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Have you seen Stranger than Fiction? Farrell's most subdued role, and IMO his best performance. I remember seeing Farrell in that role and being so confused that it wasn't comedic. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) I am with you here 100%. Only Tarantino movies I liked are Django and Reservoir Dogs. Christoph Waltz was so good in Django he overshadowed how bad Jamie Fox was. Christoph Waltz, in my opinion, is one of the top actors out there. He's the only reason I went and saw Spectre...and his scenes were the only ones I really enjoyed other than the Mexico City opening.

The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 12:13 AM) Jackson looked like a major league starter with Coop. Wouldn't mind another crack with him Yup, EJax put up fairly good numbers when he was here. EJax, Turner and another vet reclamation project in Charlotte's rotation would be fine with me.

Melky - What Did You Expect?
If Melky put up his second half numbers throughout the whole season, I'd be extremely satisfied. It's about what I expected from him.

The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Which Johnson? Micah? Micah's defense becomes so bad he moves to pitcher. Instead of picking people off, he runs them down.
-
The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching
I'd prefer having Cespedes, Alexei and Johnson with Saladino off the bench as a defensive replacement, super-sub and pinch runner.

For what Brian said: Brian Bilek @ChiSoxraBBit 47s47 seconds ago Not sure of the motives of the media leaks. Sox are conversant with YC's camp but Gordon talks more advanced.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 01:01 AM) In short, I disagree with the lack of depth comment. Even after these deals there's enough Jordan Guerrero's, Chris Beck's, and Adam Engel's to entice other teams with visions of potential longterm steals without letting go of guys like Anderson, Fulmer, or Adams. I have been rather impressed in Hahn's ability to sell what appears to be high on a lot of these guys to land a bigger fish. A great way to manufacture roster value. That's the key - the farm has definitely taken a hit with the Lawrie and Frazier deals in addition to losing Almonte and Jaye. That being said, they kept the three highest ceiling players, have a few more players that were around the level of Micah and Trayce and there's a big wave of talent coming from the 2015 draft.

Dodgers sign Kazmir to 3 yr deal
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) $16 million a year for Scott Kazmir. OK then. As contracts go up, Danks looks less bad.
