  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) I just have an extremely hard time backing the trading of Chris Sale no matter what the return. I dont care if we got 4 of the top prospects. I would still be hard pressed to be happy about the trade. It may be beneficial to this team but Sale is just a great representative for my favorite team in a whole lot of ways. Agreed. I want him to retire a White Sox player.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 11m11 minutes ago Robin Ventura, who knows Larry King some from #Dodgers days, said of the tweet: "I haven't called him about the trade, no." #WhiteSox "I haven't called him about THE trade"? Looks like Robin let something slip. #HugWatch2015
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) And one that would never happen Like I said in the trade value rankings - Sale's trade value is so high, he's untradable.
  4. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) The thing about Q is that his value is high based on his performance relative to his contract. This holds a lot of weight for most teams...except the Dodgers. Since the Dodgers don't seem to be afraid of paying a lot is it really fair to say they value Q like other teams would? To that end, do we really think they would give up Max value for him in prospects? He was the 10th best pitcher in baseball last year. 20th this year with a historically bad defense. If they aren't paying up for him, they don't get him.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) What about Sale & Shark to the Dodgers. We know the Dodgers are looking for 2 pitchers and they want at least one of them to be cost-controlled. We have talked Q & Shark, but what about Sale & Shark. Could you get Puig / Urias / Seager / Joc? I highly doubt it as the Dodgers would be pulling 2 guys from their actual lineup (and not sure how they would fill those offensive holes). Puig / Urias / Seager / Joc gets you Sale, entirely because of his stupid trade value. Throw in Samardzija, have to add someone like Barnes. If you're the Sox you could throw Avi or Melky (with cash) to help solidify their outfield. That starting four in the playoffs basically shuts down anyone in their way.
  6. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) I'd be asking the Dodgers for a ransom for Q. Seager + I feel like any deal with Q is either going to include Shark or prospects to sweeten the deal. I see the Sox walking away with two of Seager, Puig and Urias if that happens.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:39 PM) Q, underrated even in fantasy trade talks. literally everywhere. Fixed it for you.
  8. Rooting for Conor, it's just his time here was at its end.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 11:54 AM) If we could get Max, I would be on board with that. That would all be dependent on Robertson being okay with that. I would not want to taint my reputation in the league (in terms of signing FA). Co-signed. I also think Samardzija + Petricka/Putnam could get that same result. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Larry King ‏@kingsthings 1h1 hour ago Don't be surprised if the @dodgers and @whitesox make a trade before the deadline, July 31st. This is very, very interesting.
  10. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) I hope the o.0 emoticon for Flowers' WAR was intentional because I laughed really hard. I might rank Alexei higher because shortstop. Good post though. Subconsciously. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) I'd put Petricka, Putnam up there with Robertson in value based on the fact that for his actual production Robertson is at best fairly paid and if not, significantly overpaid (not even considering his reliability this season). $10 million is a premium price for any closer with the limited number of innings they pitch. I'll take the much cheaper guys in value any time compared to a closer at that price. If Abreu is the guy he was last year while healthy, which I'm not sure...the fact that we're now on 3 nagging injuries in 1.5 years is a point I can't ignore. He may still be the 2014 first half hitter and we may never see that hitter again just because he's already having so many nagging injuries. I feel like I'm watching Carlos Quentin in 2010, still a solid hitter but way down from the MVP level guy. Right now, Jose Abreu is fairly paid if you spread out his signing bonus a bit, Rodon is way underpaid, therefore I'm putting Rodon ahead of him. That's why Petricka and Putnam are in the same tier and ranked immediately after Robertson. All three could bring back a nice B level prospect. Abreu is more proven and I believe would net more in a trade. Regardless, they're very close.
  11. http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2015/07/r...by-trade-value/ Number one shouldn't come as a real shock.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Maybe from their you see if you can flip Robertson or Putnam to the Blue Jays, who are looking for relief help. I'd like to get Hoffman, but don't think you get Hoffman for either of them. Doubt either would net Hoffman. Hell, I don't think a combo package of Petricka and Putnam would net Hoffman unless the Blue Jays pulled Kenny Williams. You're relying on signing Shark in the offseason and hope two of EJ, Fulmer, Montas and Danish can be ready to perform.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) I doubt it. I think if we dealt Q and Shark (they actually need 2 starters according to most reports) for Puig / Seager / Barnes, that would probably be the only package where you could get Puig & Seager without giving up Sale. And even then I don't know. If this scenario happened, they'd need to sign Shark in the offseason. Rodon can't be your #2 next year and Puig + Seager sets them up to try and make a run hopefully. You'd also have to hope that EJ is finally ready and that Fulmer would be ready quickly. But I would do Q and Shark for Puig/Seager/Barnes. That's just about the only scenario where I'd be cool with giving up Q.
  14. I have no ideasy if Tex is serious or not.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) So the Detroit Tigers owe Verlander about 28 million a year for 2016, 17, 18 and 19. Bear with me a second. Let's say the Tigers let somebody else sign Verlander instead of giving him that ridiculous contract. Would it have killed the Tigers? Buried the Tigers? No. The SMART PLAY if you are a GM of any team is simply refuse to give big contracts to pitchers. Just say no. Ha ha to Detroit. Final comment on this: Let's say Verlander becomes so rotten he gets hammered almost every start the rest of his contract. Do they make him a long reliever at 28 mill a year? It's all Monopoly money in sports, but unfortunately the money the customer spends is not Monopoly money. Gimme a 10 dollar beer please and an 8 dollar hot dog, I'm hungry. *looks at last two years of Buehrle's deal* It worked out, but was a risk. Sox will face this with Sale eventually
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Q is headed South IMO. Just look at his record. He is a mediocre big league starter, which is why he won't get much in a trade. Rodon still walks too many, too often behind in the count....... ...Quintana has been a top 20 pitcher the past two years with some or the worst run support imaginable
  17. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) He's also had a plus 4 ERA like all year. I like him he's just not been as advertised. Now he's 3.91 due to his hot streak lately. I would t be opposed to signing him in the offseason I've just been frustrated with him. That's with the league worst defense behind him.
  18. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) On a side note: part of me thinks Jeff is in on the trade with the FO. "Jeff we're a few pieces away. We'll give you a shot at a ring and get an impact player for next year. Talk to ya in the offseason." I'be also got a feeling that this scenario plays out.
  19. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) Why are you so anxious to get rid of Putnam? Not going to get a lot for him, why not keep him? He can also sweeten the pot a bit for a better return.

  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) Boni's on bereavement leave. Whatever the circumstances are, condolences to EB
  22. Had no idea we brought up Leury.
  23. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:23 PM) There's just no way they think we're going to start getting hot with the bats. We're playing f***ing Cleveland. Sell. Sell. Sell. They trick us all and become a historically great offense and we win the World Series behind Chris Sale's consecutive 10 perfect games.
