QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 07:07 AM) Anyone watch comedic "Let's Play" videos on YouTube? Do you have any favorite channels? Critikal is hysterical. Channel is penguinz0

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 12:15 AM) Remember when you were complaining that you couldn't believe Beckham was still on the team. And you couldn't believe how bad Beckham was. And of course he had passed through waivers without anyone picking him up. And then you found out that he hadn't been put on waivers until 3 weeks into August. And that Beckham had been claimed on waivers. And then you at no point thought about adjusting your knee-jerk complaint trigger mechanism. The Angels actually grabbed him on waivers.

Weren't Montas and Rondon supposedly just toss in PTBNL types? (I know they weren't PTBNLs, but they were viewed as those "have one tool, let's take a look" guys)
-
I guess it's time to see what we got.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) They need power. Having both gives you two guys who can be very similar. Corner outfield spots are usually used for power guys. So if Semien were in LF and Micah at 2B, it'd be ok? They can't be flipped? Or Anderson down the line?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) I'd bet on a big dollar position player being added. Only person I can think of is Chase Headley to DH, but I almost feel like the Sox may opt for cheap and give Wilkins a shot while using the extra bench spot to rotate in Micah Johnson (who if all goes right would be the 2B, with Sanchez as the utility and Semien in LF). I think September might answer a lot of our questions.

At what point is this season not considered a success?

Quintana is a legit #2, unless we're holding his awful run support against him. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:16 PM) Did Rizzo die? People seem to forget he is a legit hitter who is in the majors... He is a legit lefty hitter. Close to the value Abreu brings while on a dirt cheap contract. Castro has a cheap contract. Another player being completely ignored is Arrieta. Soler, Baez, Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, Alcantara... Cubs talent is just filthy. They have tons of cost controller talent. Baez and Soler have low bust probably as far as prospects go. I expect at least one to be a star. Baez and Soler have very high bust probability. Right now, Baez is like an extreme version of Adam Dunn minus the ability to take a walk. Strikeout or home run. The Sox have Sale, Quintana, Eaton, Avi and Abreu proving it in the major leagues. While the minors depth isn't as strong as the Cubs Anderson, Semien, Sanchez, Montas, Adams, Danish, Martinez, Ravelo, Rondon and even Davidson still are bringing some talent. Beck, Bassitt, and EJ could all be something still. Oh, then Rodon.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:15 AM) The White Sox are in 4th place in the AL West, at 60-72, 14 games back of the Kansas City Royals, with the 5th worst record in the American League, and 8th worst record in all of baseball. They have NO reliable bullpen pitchers going forward. Zach Putnam has had a nice run, but he's managed only 45 innings, and went on the DL seemingly from overuse. There isn't a single additional bullpen piece that can be counted on. As for starters, we have the incomparable Chris Sale locked up for years. Jose Quintana seems like a quality starter, but he ends up with far too many no decisions and losses to know for sure. He doesn't seem like a #2 guy, more like a decent #3 guy or very good #4 guy. John Danks has had a year better than most would expect, but he's still overpaid and therefore not easily moved. and not part of the solution. Hector Noesi and his zero WAR? If it weren't for our total lack of right handed starters, we'd more easily see him as what he is - a fill in starter on a weak team. The Sox may have added pieces this offseason in Abreu, Eaton, and Garcia (late 2013), and tied up their best pitchers with favorable contracts, but I don't think you can say this is a successful season by any means. Making the playoffs has to be the definition of a successful season. Competing for a World Championship has to be the measure of a successful season. Anything short of that and you haven't been successful. Period. You lost me here. -
Sox until the Cubs prospects prove it in the bigs.

Jose Abreu is fun.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) On a happier note ... Once, I kid you not, I got on a SW Airlines flight and a woman who was a perfect 10, about 25 years old, blonde hair, blue eyes, gorgeous walks on the plane as one of the final passengers to board. She gets on the plane and all that is left is the middle seat in my row. For once, halleluia. She sits down and proceeds to say she's never flown before and is scared to death and she asks if I can hold her hand. I was only about 8 years older than her so it wasn't like I was some grandpa to her. So she gets through the flight, scared as hell. I enjoyed talking to her instead of taking my normal flight nap while ignoring the beastly males who normally sit next to me. No happily ever after ending for me, however. She tells me she's going to Dallas to meet some guy she met on the Internet. The guy has two kids. We get off the plane and say our goodbyes (I did get her card and she got mine, big deal) and sure enough some 5-foot-5 guy from India with a fu-manchu is there to greet her with a big hug. I'm not trying to be prejudiced here, just describing who met her. She seemed happy as a lark to see him. Maybe they got married. It still was better than sitting next to some 300 pound male moose. I don't know why, but I find this story hysterical.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) Because the Tyrus Thomas and James Johnson experiences were so positive by Bulls fans... Maybe if he was named Zach ZaVine, you'd be onto something.

I was kinda hoping he'd go all the way home.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Eh, pre-draft there was a lot of people gushing over him, but I would need Quinarvy to put something together to see if it was just one superfan. I will not be doing this because I'm not into self-incrimination, because I definitely was on the LaVine hype train. I think he'll be exciting. I think Rubio is a great pairing for him and alongside Wiggins they should dunk all over the place. He has the tools, hopefully the brain as well.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) Thats an awful lot to give up for a guy coming of a mediocre year and headed to free agency. Didn't know he's headed to FA. Knew he was injured this year, though he has still pitched well. Still, giving up one of Semien/Sanchez/Johnson + an arm (maybe not one of Adams, Montas, Danish) and a sweetener wouldn't be a problem to me.
-
Latos would be a amazing get if the Sox could go for him. One of the MI prospects Semien/Johnson/Sanchez + one of Danish/Montas/Adams + Beck/EJ/Bassitt? Would that even suffice? Toss in Hawkins or Thompson as sweetener?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 11:15 PM) They should just let everybody in for free. Seriously. Would it anger the season ticket holders that much? There's no downside to letting fans in for free in September. They still wouldn't draw, but those families who did go would still spend a ton on concessions. Uh...really?

Not only is this poll a loaded question, it fails to address how the Sox didn't add an impact prospect such as Yasiel Puig, Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, or Arismendy Alcantara. All of our young hitters (Abreu isn't young at 27) are in the minors still. The Sox needed a Michael Morse type to appear as well, the not great but still solid contributor who was forced out of an organization. I guess you could say Gillaspie is, but he doesn't hit for nearly enough power from third base. He’s enjoying a monster July, hitting .338 with 4 HR, 10 RBI and 14 R. Of course he’s benefited from a .368 BABIP and a 16.0% HR/FB. The average is inflated, as it is overall, with a .367 BABIP. It’s not a huge surprise that he’s been a factor in the average department though he was just a .286 hitter in the minor leagues. It’s the recent power surge that’s a bit of a surprise. He hadn’t hit a home run entering the month, though he should at least contribute a few. He hit 13 last season courtesy of a 9.2% HR/FB. Considering his 4.5% mark this season, it’s safe to assume a little more power moving forward. Is it enough? Depending on your format it could be, as it’s realistic to hit for a solid average with 6-10 HR the rest of the way. Consider him in the deepest of formats. http://rotoprofessor.com/baseball/?p=23726 Yes, the Sox signed Abreu and got Rodon, but they don't have that exciting, snatch all the ESPN highlights type player yet. For some time, we have known that Yasiel Puig, lovable baseball sensation, has a last name only one letter removed from "pug," the derpy-faced dog breed. http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2014/8/24/6...amed-yasiel-pug Can you see Eaton making a headline like that? Nah, because there is no such thing as an Eatonorgi, Eatug, Eathiba. Ultimately, this season was a failure due to the above. -
It's about that time of the year again...

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) I admire your optimism but Semien wasn't even ranked in the White Sox top 20 prospects that MLB.com put out last month. Tim Anderson is the guy to keep an eye on. That would be because Semien has lost his rookie prospect eligibility. -
If it were anyone other than hi8is I would be confused as to what is going on.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 01:42 AM) I really hate to be a killjoy here, but that is not good enuf for Matuella nor Kirby. but in essence, this ticker tape countdown is exciting and serves as a great reminder on the positive side of loosing. Last year at this time, #3 wouldn't have been enough for Rodon. -
