  1. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Was the Serpent ever in the Yanks or anyone's top 10? Also, how many teams passed then? We're good at precisely this, so I'm confident he'll become useful. White Sox do seem to be great at pitching reclamations. Shame we didn't sell Humber off.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) I hope he wins his appeal federal appeal and only gets the first time offender penalty. The Yankees knew what they were paying for when they signed him. The NYY organization shouldnt be able to weasel their way out of this ridiculous contract. This is what I hate. It should still count against the Yankees and be donated to charity.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:51 PM) That article says Jerry was in attendance, which means our interest must be pretty serious. Intriguing. The more I read and hear, the more I think the Sox have a legit shot at him.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) I disapprove. Until Hahn get a legitimate left-handed middle of the order power hitter and shuts Lillian up forever, he's failed. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) As long as he keeps making moves like this, yes he is. Also, Pods and Eaton are as similar as Buehrle and Quintana.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) I don't think Beckham ever was because his rookie status was gone by the time thatthe next prospect lists came out. He was the 20th ranked prospect going into 2009.
  6. We already knew this. I don't see how it changes the Sox chances.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) See, I don't necessarily agree with this, because I think this was something Williams wanted too. I just don't think he had or has the patience Hahn does. If the Sox thought Williams did a poor job, he would have been fired. Instead, he was promoted or, at the very least, re-assigned to a still very prestigious position. My main problem with the Williams era is that the Sox simply didn't have depth. Depth affords you the opportunity to make moves either internally or externally. I remember Rick saying that Kenny had been wanting to start a rebuild for some years, but they were always closer to the playoffs than the bottom of the league so he made playoff pushes. 2013 was the first real year they could start a rebuild.
  8. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) Well, if the Sox were to sign Tanaka you can bet the Yanks will be pretty desperate. Danks could end up being a cheaper option than some of the remaining FA starters. If the Sox sign Tanaka you keep Danks and let him rebuild value. Your staff becomes Sale - Tanaka - Quintana - Danks - Johnson with Rienzo-Paulino-Surkamp all ready to fill in. That looks pretty damn good and lets you move Danks once you've gotten his value back up.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) The Sox apparently have earmarked some money for him if its in the right arena. They had a budget meeting weeks ago and apparently have had the calculator nerds in there all week. Have your sources told you this bit or is that educated guess on your part? I know the Sox interest surprised you a bit.
  10. I hate LeBron right now. He puts on a Bulls uniform and I'll love him.
  11. I think one of the underrated factors in signing Tanaka for the Sox would be Coop. From all reports Tanaka is a pitcher that thrives on "pitching" and his splitter more than raw stuff. That fits the Coop mold for success and Coop may help him adjust to the MLB more than any other pitching coach.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 19h Justin Verlander underwent core muscle repair surgery, injuring himself in December workouts. The #Tigers expect him to be ready for season Verlander will "undergo physical rehabilitation for the next six weeks and will be reevaluated at the end of that time," Tigers say. Justin Verlander’s streak of Opening Day starts obviously in jeopardy. He will be in rehab mode until 1 week after spring training begins. Tigers say Justin Verlander should be ready to participate "in" spring training; release did not say "the start of" spring training. I guess the obscene pitch counts catch up to you eventually.
  13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) The Sox have this article up the their site for those interested. Pretty much what we already know. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/2014/01/09/...-in-los-angeles With Merkin being a mouthpiece, that sounded a whole lot like the Sox want Tanaka.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 06:15 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 5m Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams and Robin Ventura met with Masahiro Tanaka today in LA. Hahn said meeting was "exploratory in nature." #WhiteSox "Ok, so we're on Google Maps. Let's explore housing options for you."
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) They pitched fine last year and stunk. There's still WAY too many variables on offense to think they'd be any good. Our (arguably) best hitter has never seen a Major League pitch, for Christ's sake. But Paulie has seen lots of pitches?

The Lord of the Rings movies far outdid the book in almost every aspect in my opinion. And I love the books.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) Rockets showing interest in Dunleavy. And Warriors interested in Hinrich. Trade Dunleavy and Kirk for picks. Build as many draft assets as you can to package for better picks/players. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) I don't see why LeBron would want to play for the Bulls. The winter weather is bad. DRose may or not be as good as he was, and who knows how long he can last. Seems to me, there are a few other places that would seem more logical if he wanted to flee Miami. I really don't understand why he would want to do that. Only one I can see is dethroning Jordan in his own city.
  18. I think if KW likes Tanaka, Hahn will do some contract magic like he did with JDA and Paulie (Signing bonus, Arbitration Opt-out, and deferred money) to try and sign him.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) I knew this was coming but I'm still pretty giddy about it. I stole this from Hammerhead's signature because it reminds me just how awesome Frank was: Professional sports strikes suck. Frank's numbers in a 162 game season (by my own math): 54 HR 202 Hits 156 Walks 144 RBIs
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) If the Sox pull off what many here regard as "The Impossible" and sign Tanaka, does that change anyone's perception of the Sox chance to win this season? Or does everyone leave 2014 as "work in progress"? I'd have them making the playoffs as a Wild Card. And with Sale-Tanaka-Quintana as your front three, anything could happen in October.
  21. You can sell him the 3rd biggest market, being able to pair with Sale to form an outstanding 1-2 punch, being THE Japanese guy in the market, the Sox being in a better position than the Cubs, the love Shingo and Iguchi got, etc. If KW comes away impressed, I expect the Sox to make a strong push.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) Of course It just feels like it's never mentioned.
  23. It's weird. Does Frank count as a WS champion for '05? He played for the team that year and has a ring.
  24. Does anyone know where I can get a Frank player-shirt?
  25. My earliest memory is when I was two years old I thought Frank hit a ball out of Comiskey Park. Amazing comparing Piazza and Frank's All-Star and Silver Slugger numbers. Frank was a worlds better hitter and it seems like they've acknowledged it now. His resume would have even more MVPs, All Stars and Silver Sluggers if not for the roiders.
