QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 01:03 AM) Unless of course the Sox "go for it" again and at this point I'd be very surprised if they didn't. JR is not willing to wait five years during a rebuild and last I looked he still owns the team. Mark Plus how do you replace Q and Sale? Shields is a weak link. Somehow the Sox scouting would have to be far more accurate when it comes to giving up quality cost controlled pitching. Giving that up seems foolish. The Cubs blueprint is wishful thinking.

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Oct 8, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) Samardzija SUCKS!!!! $90 million for THAT!!! How in the hell did that guy land Addison Russell for the Cubs? Unbelieveable. I never understood why anyone thought he was somewhere close to being an ace. It's frightening to think he was close to having a longer contract with the Sox. I doubt anyone will ever offer a trade like that again. That would be something that I could see KW would do.

He did wonders with the pen. He's overrated for sure. He also has the blame the fans mentality. In the Sox organization you can speak against the fan base and still keep your job.

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) The difference being that Cooper is actually pretty good at his job Maybe a decade ago.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 11:29 PM) Maybe the vets are tuning him out who think they know everything already (Frazier, LaRoche, Navarro, Lawrie, etc.) Saladino, Melky, Eaton, Anderson, Navarez, Abreu have all been mostly positive. Veterans develop habits and those are probably hard to change when the season is started.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 07:58 PM) I don't. I'd be really surprised if it happened. All the talk, everything I'm hearing from a number of sources is that JR wants to go for it again in 2017. That means unless someone is willing to meet the Sox price of five big league or big league ready guys, they aren't moving him or Q or anybody else of note. But we'll see...things change. Mark Those are two nice contracts that allow for them to spend money on hitting. History suggests they stop trying to fill holes with veteran NL talent.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) Funny how much better Sox play with no pressure. They are also playing a team that couldn't beat some AA teams.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) From the Sun-Times web site: "While most speculation about Ventura’s status leaned toward the Sox going in a different direction, the front office believes the Sox’ record is more a reflection of roster deficiencies than Ventura’s managerial skills." Sure every manager always brings in a relief pitcher before the opponents pinch hitter is officially announced! But seriously, if the front office doesn't think Ventura is at fault then who exactly is? (Hint: They probably don't think it's them...all they do is the evaluations, the trades and sign the free agents right? LOL) Mark Weren't we always told the solution was for fans to show up at the ball park? -

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) WRONG. That honor would probably go to Buddy Bell who had a .418 winning percentage with 3 different teams. Maybe that is why he has a lofty position with the White Sox. That winning percentage seems to transfer with him running the farm systems. f*** THIS ORGANIZATION. -
Who they have for a manager may affect my "still watching" for next season. The loyal fan is me is dead. Bandwagon 4 ever.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 10:08 PM) 6.35 ERA and on the roster the whole season. When is last time this happened? I think Hahn owes Danks an apology.

If Albers somehow f***s this up I hope Chris Sale beats the s*** out of him.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 08:17 PM) I am confused. It is not uncommon for our top guys Sale, Quintana and Rodon to have a shaky inning. It's not a reason to panic . If he or the others are going to lead us into the post season next year than they have to pitch even more innings than where they are right now The whole meaningless label is something only created by fans. How many athletes want to sit out because games are "meaningless"? So who that also translates to teams like the Cubs where HFA is locked. It's another symptom of the Strasburg syndrome. It can't die soon enough.

Alexei gets a standing O. Sox fan base is classy.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) When they aren't going anywhere, I hit the doldrums in August, but once September hits, I get a second wind. No baseball for 6 months gets me excited to watch meaningless for the White Sox games. Same here. I will miss baseball season even though I will attend some fall league games. I'm getting lest interested in the NFL. It's become more about political statements when sports are for entertainment. Plus with so many injuries the quality is not there. I watched a team get 3 ten yard penalties in a row. I guess though it's kind of grim for most Chicago sports fans unless you are a Cub fan or a BLackhawks fan.

September 25th Game Thread: ChiSox at Indians
kitekrazy replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 25, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) It was one of the last things he talked about before signing off for the year. He referenced some recent conversations with Reinsdorf where apparently the owner was very clear that he really, really, REALLY wants to win next year. From there he and Stone agreed that this upcoming free agent class was too weak to really provide the quantity and quality of upgrades this team will need if the team has any chance of achieving the owner's desires for next season. Stone then said improvement would need to come via trades, but was optimistic that trades which were discussed at the trade deadline would probably get revisited, but in the sense that the Sox could end up getting certain players they could have never gotten in mid season by teams in the middle of a pennant race. So what does that all mean? Well, the owner seems like he may in fact be going for it, but without the services of one Chris Sale, because he was the one Stone was undoubtedly talking about when referencing the trade deadline rumored trades. Question becomes, can the team compete with the haul received from a Sale trade and some select pickups in free agency? Based on Hawk's comments today, it looks like we might just find out! No. The thing with Sale is he wins and the team wins behind him. It's a bad idea to trade one of your best contracts because no team will make a too good to be true offer. -
The problem is simple: it's home runs and .OPS

QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) Chasing home run hitting free agents has been failing. We need better on base percentage and a better bullpen. Worrying about home run hitters isn't working. That's because they've been getting them from the NL. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) Yes, where it is allowed, that's always a great solution. We have a generator, so it would work, however I've read that it's not permitted at the nearby Walmart. Thanks There are a few nearby Wal-Marts now.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) You're right. They should wrap him in bubble wrap and treat him like a p**** instead. I call it the Strasburg Syndrome. Sox fans seem to suffer from it. Athletes like to perform. Trying to plan to avoid injury is often a failed attempt used in the NFL. It doesn't always work. Sometimes the worst thing for an athlete is time off. Besides it wasn't too long ago Sale was throwing a lot of pitches in April. Maybe last season. I thought it was a gutsy move for Ventura to keep him in. I wanted him pulled after that walk since his control looked way off. It was a situation where he continues to earn the label "ace".

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 05:45 PM) The logic was that all things equal, Saladino makes sense as the utility guy, while Rollins didn't. It still does. Abreau could DH more, Frazier at 1st, Saladino at 3rd. Somehow it seems wrong for people to believe having quality utility guys. Heath seems to be an issue with this team. Then the replacements are often guys like a Shuck. Usually a guy that is peaked and probably not good enough to play at the major league level.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) I hope they get swept in the NLDS. I've been the "Sox guy" ever since I was a little kid. Back in the day, we'd have some fun and go back and forth with it and then once the Sox won most of the s*** talking went away. All of a sudden everybody became Hawk fans. Recently, a bunch of people who don't know baseball and have never talked baseball with me have started talking the s*** again. I am annoyed by it. I don't hate the Cubs team or their players but I wish their fans' suffering to continue. Maybe that's immature, but oh well. Unfortunately I envy their organization. They hit on 2 draft picks and took advantage of a stupid trade. That doesn't happen all of the time and most like will never happen on the south side with the current ownership. I do like your attitude.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) Wins? The stat people say wins don't matter at ALL so why are we talking about wins? To me they do when a guy is on a crappy team.

The big difference from last year is this team will score late.
