Bullpen has been playing with fire but keeps getting it done. Too bad the offense can't get a clutch hit to save its life.
-
Really great offensive performance tonight.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) Brewers got bailed out by the wild pitch, Montero almost got out of it. First blown save since the end of May. Montero saves the day with a walk-off solo shot in the tenth.

Hiring Dombrowski would be a smart move. Therefore, this organization will never do it.

I think the most painful loss of the season was when Robertson gave up that walk off homer to Josh Donaldson back in May. Tonight's loss was a combination of bad defense, poor relief pitching and stupid coaching.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 3m3 minutes ago Source: White Sox, Orioles, Rangers emerging as possibilities for recently DFA'd Danny Valencia Good. Makes a lot of sense for the Sox.

Has anyone dusted off that old Danks for Ethier trade proposal recently?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) Home: 11 starts, 4-3, 3.70 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 7.2 k/9 Road: 9 starts, 2-5, 6.29 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 5.7 k/9 Anyway he can only start at home for now on? Also, an 1.85 ERA in 39 IP vs. first place teams.

I can't really argue with the logic in this. It would be nice to see some evidence of Erik Johnson being able reproduce his minor league success in the majors.

@jonheymanCBS mike leake goes to giants

Meh, knowing the Cardinals, Moss will come over to St. Louis and hit about .300 with 15 bombs the rest of the season.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) They did take back Reyes, so they're willing to do that. Maybe CarGo for Danks, Avi and someone else Danks in Coors...Ouch.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) The changes really started to happen once the defense solidified. Alexei and Eaton started fielding like themselves again, Gillaspie and Johnson were banished, and everyone else stayed OK. This team has been a lot more competitive with each notch the defense has gotten better. Sure, the defense got better when Johnson was demoted and just recently when Saladino replaced Gillaspie, but it's only been within the last week that they've started scoring runs. For the majority of the season the offense overall has been historically bad.
-
What sparked the offense to suddenly come alive more than 3.5 months into the season? Saladino? He's a nice player and a defensive upgrade over Gillaspie but does anyone really expect him to continue hitting around .300 the rest of the season? You still have two offensive black holes in the lineup in LaRoche and Flowers (and who knows what Sanchez will do from here on out). Eaton is returning to form and Melky finally looks like the player the Sox thought they were getting when they signed him. However, my concern is that all it would take is for one or two of these guys to slip back into a bad slump and the offense will suddenly look terrible once again.

Watch, Alexei is going to get hot the last week before the deadline.

LOL Robertson. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) I'd take Teagarden over Flowers any day of the week. If anything, the name is more fun to say There's a florist joke in there somewhere.

And here's our old friend Dylan Axelrod to hand the Cubs an extra-innings victory.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Still way too early to jump to any conclusions, but Cubs fans will be heartbroken when they finally realize that not all these prospects will pan out. I'd still rather have any one of their young players over just about anyone in the current Sox lineup.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) actually seeing how great this rotation is with Sale, Q as the ones that will stay. the sox added shark and this rotation look great, as i am talking about the top 3. now with the possibility of shark either getting traded or loosing him thru FA's, Rodon will step in as a 3rd. he still needs to develop. this system looks great..... add a young Fulmer later. i can see the rotation doing wonders in the future. now look at what the sox has developing in the minors for the #5 and on. ...And sign Buehrle in the offseason.
-
Who of value can the Sox even move besides Samardzija? A few bullpen pieces? LaRoche has to be a pure salary dump at this point. It's not like whatever happens at the deadline is going to be a bunch of wheelin' and dealin' on Hahn's part. I can see maybe one-two guys moved, tops.

I don't have a particularly good feeling about this game but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.
