  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 06:47 PM) Saw a great thread on SSS about Eaton failing to give Rollins a high five after the homer yesterday. Looks like a pathetic move by Eaton. http://m.mlb.com/video/v561249483/sfcws-ro...?game_pk=469676 I'm sure the players at this point have a very good idea or know who it was that complained to management. I think it's incredibly naive to expect everyone to get along in the clubhouse, but Eaton and Sale seriously need to bury this crap already. s*** happens, people get released and traded all the damn time and sometimes they could be your friends. They're acting like the Sox held a damn gun to LaRoche's head and said "sign your retirement papers." Rollins brings demeanor, experience and leadership to the Sox that the team has sorely missed since Knoerko/Thome/Vizquel - in other words, respect the damn man. He was at one time one of the best in the game, and if he has an issue in the clubhouse it's probably for good reason you sit down and shut up. This isn't like Luery Garcia went crying to KW because more teammates knew Drake on a first name basis over himself.
  2. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) Logic tells me what we thought all along that Williams was simply falling on the sword for a number of people in the organization that didn't have the stones to make a fuss. However, the Sox clearly are not capable of pulling off something like with any sort of grace. It was totally botched. Absolutely. It's remarkable how much this has snowballed over the last few days. It was handled very piss poor on all fronts (players/management/media). If the Sox had gotten complaints about Drake stemming all the way back to last season, why wouldn't they have addressed this in the offseason before ST? I really do believe what happened was a few players and coaches were uncomfortable by his constant presence and finally had the courage to speak up. Handing the responsibility of dealing with this to KW was a bad move though. The guy's an egomaniac who expects everyone to accept his ultimatums. Based on Sale's comments there is a very large group of players in that clubhouse that truly did not like KW even before this started. Does anyone find it ironic that the two most outspoken players on this issue are also the two that signed very team friendly deals? Who knows if any promises were made to Sale or Eaton behind closed doors during negotiations. None of us can really say we understand the business side of things. The Sox failing to follow through with a handshake deal could worry and affect many of the players that may have specific requests themselves. A lot of the outbursts could be partial subconscious reactions to their own situations.
  3. This has gotta be the most ridiculous reasons to ever walk away from $13M. KW and the Sox are in the right here. No one should ever bring their kid 100% of the time to work with them. Adam is there to play baseball and help the Sox win games, not take some of that focus away and redirected towards his kid or change the clubhouse atmosphere. It would have been a problem down the road with other players as well. You simply cannot make exceptions for one guy and have to draw the line somewhere. Sounds like LaRoche took this the wrong way and was refusing to compromise.
  4. Gotta give him credit for walking away from $13M this season. He must really be drained. Kind of wished he would have done this BEFORE the spring, but oh well...
  5. I know it's only ST, but Johnson looks more and more like a AAAA pitcher.
  6. They were going to lose a catcher at some point. Looks like Smith/Sanchez at catcher for Charlotte.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Looks like AAA outfield will be Daniel Fields, Jacob May and Sands/Shuck (if JB doesn't end up catching on with another org)...MAYBE Avi if they keep Sands to DH with LaRoche? Leury Garcia and Sanchez as infielders, among others. I doubt we will see either Sands or Shuck in Charlotte. Both are out of minor league options and are not ST invitees, so other teams are going to have a shot at them. Don't forget about Coats or Hairston. Coats will most definitely be starting for the Knights.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) I'm with you on this. This a typical move that will backfire on Sox if completed, which I doubt. Unlike many here, I don't think the Sox are good enough to compete yet in 2016. Hope I'm wrong. IMO, the only way Hahn can dig himself out is to make a really big move with 2017 in mind. I thought he had a chance with Boston a few months ago, before they added Price and Kimbrel. Bosox are loaded with great prospects. Could have made a deal with Q as the centerpiece. Too late now. But now rumors about Rockettes and Sox are intriguing. They also are really loaded with great prospects, and they need a starting pitcher. Enter Q. Takes some creativity, but the parts are there. I don't care if it includes Cargo or not. Trading Q at this point makes trading for Fraizer and Lawrie completely pointless. If the Sox are going to trade anyone away at his caliber it'll be at the deadline or next offseason. They are going for it this year without handcuffing the team with additional bad contracts and blowing up the farm.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) Watch Tigers sign him now. I really don't know what Hahn is waiting for. Was literally thinking the same thing. That would be such a typical Tigers move.
  10. Kind of weird that out of all the remaining free agent relievers the Sox bring in a 34 year old who doesn't show any promise. Clear Triple-A filler.
  11. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 05:57 PM) That makes no sense. They signed Rollins to a minor league contract w an invite to ST. He should not be in a position to win a roster spot by default. If that is the case, Hahn screwed up. The 40-man was full. Signing Rollins to a minor league deal is a smart strategy because it prevents you from having to DFA someone before spring training even begins. This puts the Sox in the position to have an additional player in camp and then cut the player who was least impressive once spring training concludes.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Saladino has played some outfield, but that's also where he tore his UCL so I'm not sure the Sox would want him out there again. And yeah, the Charlotte stack for 3B/1B/DH is quite a thing: Davidson, Ishikawa, Olt, Delmonico, probably Hayes. My best guess is that Olt isn't even with the Sox come April, and one of Delmonico or Hayes will stay in AA. In terms of readiness I think Delmonico is best to keep back in AA. So you'd have Davidson at third, with Ishikawa and Hayes at 1B and DH. Plus Ishikawa can also play some OF. I think there's a real possibility both Olt and Davidson may find themselves in new organizations come April 1st. Both are out of minor league options. I think we could see some teams be willing to take a flyer on either of them if the star aligned correctly. Personally I think at least one of them is going to pass, but you never know...
  13. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) There does not seem to be any love whatsoever for Sanchez's bat. He did not inspire a lot of confidence last year, granted. But maybe we should look at the following: a) He is all of 23 years old, has always played far above his age differential in the minors, and only has 500 AB's in MLB; b) Last year he did hit .252 with a .687 OPS in the second half. Granted, he died in September, but so did most of the team. c) His minor league line, starting when he was just 17, is .288, with an OBP of .354 and an OPS of .723. d) With that outstanding defense - I have a hard time recalling anyone who gets rid of the ball quicker on the double play - and the fact that he is a switch hitter, there sure seems to be more potential value than many people on this board seem to think he has. Just one man's opinion ... I'm not denying any of that - those are all excellent points. I still think Saladino fits much better into a utility IF roll, especially in the short term. Sanchez is untested at 3B and there were doubts when he was coming up that he could not stick at SS due to arm strength. You do know Saladino's career minor league OBP is .351 and his OPS is .746? The argument for either is really a coin flip at this point.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) Rollins- 65% Saladino- 34% Other- 1% I'm going out on a limb and say Sanchez will be involved in a trade before opening day when the Sox get an outfielder. Parrino and Lombardozzi will get long looks for backup infielder. Couldn't agree more. I get the feeling the Sox don't have Sanchez in their future plans. From what we've seen Saladino can easily fit into a utility IF position more so than Sanchez because he can play 3B. I like Sanchez and his glove, but I have zero faith in the guys ability to hit at the Major League level.
  15. Until he actually proves this works in game, I could honestly care less. How many times did we see Beckham change his stance in the offseason?
  16. I think he gets the job out of ST but will end up in a platoon position come June through the rest of the season.
  17. Kind of a cryptic tweet from Anderson Could he really be that upset about Rollins? He was a longshot to make the team before the signing, and honestly this move could really benefit him, where hopefully he can learn a thing or two.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) I dunno, I think he's still an asshole. This just made him an asshole with fluid on his knee. But he's our asshole! Anyone else slightly concerned about the Sox rotation depth? Beck is coming back from ulnar nerve transposition offseason surgery (I have no clue if that's serious or not) and now Latos is possibly going to miss opening day. Other than Johnson, the Sox rotation depth looks absolutely terrible. Are Carroll, Turley, Haviland, and Sherik really the options they are left with? You can't count on guys like Danish or Guerrero because they most likely not ready yet (especially Danish).
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, STOP CHEATING DUMB ASS!!! Hahahaha, exactly. Is he really that desperate or that stupid to be caught for a 3rd time? It's not even like he did this over a long length of time - he got himself caught three times in under a year!
  20. Someone needs to create one of those parody twitter accounts for Nightingale and just report the complete opposite of whatever happens in the news. Guy is a complete buzzkill. I don't really want Desmond, but it's nice to have some rumors about the Sox every once in a while.
  21. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) Herman reporting that the Sox are "Seriously considered making a big run at Ian Desmond". Said he thinks he's a great fit & talks like it will be more than 1 year. That just seems crazy to go long term on a guy when they theoretically have Anderson waiting in the wings. Plus, IDK if like the idea of signing Desmond long term when his stats have progressively gotten worse over the last three years. This has to be Desmond's camp or the Sox trying to play the market.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) It's not necessarily about the stats. And again, context is needed. Delmonico did have a pretty lackluster year in offensive output. But he's also a guy who's talent is much greater than his output - which is the kind of player the Sox will push. And they sent him to the AFL. And Michalczewski & Barnum are going to AA, the club has said this on both. Add it all up, and I think he's in Charlotte. Hayes had a crappy first 5-6 weeks - which makes sense when you consider he went from Low A to AA (the High A to AA jump is usually seen as the biggest, and he added more to that). Look at what he did the rest of the year. Also look at the fact that he walks more than he K's, and that he's a plus defensive 1B. And Barnum is behind him. Again, that says Charlotte to me. These are just guesses of course, but that's my reasoning. Makes sense. Considering Olt and Davidson are are both out options, there is the possibility that neither of them could even be in Charlotte. In that case I would fully expect one or both of Delmonico and Hayes to be on the team.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) I'd say the lineup in Charlotte should be quite good. Pitching though, should be pretty bad, and they are playing in a band box. Lots of high scoring games for the Knights most likely. Lineup should include Anderson, May, Coats, some combo of Ishikawa/Davidson/Hayes/Delmonico/Olt (all of which should mash in AAA) on the corners, and Smith/Brantly at catcher. That's a lineup that should hit AAA pitching pretty effectively, even though many are not solid prospect-wise. That was I think Sahadev maybe, and it goes against what the club has said previously. All the indications I've seen are he's in AA to start the year. I don't see how either Hayes or Delmonico start in Charlotte. They both had pretty lack-luster years not deserving of a promotion.
  24. I'd think Ishikawa and Rottino split time at 1B to start the year in Charlotte. Hard to see either Hayes or Delmonico get promoted after the pretty uninspiring years they've had.
