Worst game you've ever seen?
That 20-1 loss to the Twins. Stayed the whole game, laughed my ass off. One of those games that is so bad, it becomes fun.

Our 1B of the future.
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) He's several years away though -- Dunn can only fake it there for one more year before his contract runs out. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) Honestly I forgot about Barnum. He is so far away, it is hard to even project him right now. Unfortunately I think the Sox are several years away from being relevant again. I'm sure the Sox will have someone ahead of him in the mean time, but the draft reports of his power and comparisons to Howard make it hard not to dream. But like you both said, he's about as raw as you can get.

Roster Changes Coming?
Peavy and Crain would probably be to two most valuable guys on the team right now. I really hope all this talk about moves actually allow us to see the organization attempt to build for the future as opposed to the last few years of making a move for the sake of making a move or attempt to stop the bleeding. I read on Twitter today that Peavy said he would be willing to go to another team if asked. This July should be pretty interesting.

Our 1B of the future.
I still have hope for Barnum. He's definitely young enough if he can only stay healthy.

Game Thread 5/20: BOS @ SOX
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Sanchez is a little better than Greene as a SS, but Greene is no stranger to that position, and everything I have read makes him average there, so for a back up who can hit lefties, Greene would be my choice. Isn't Greene still under team control though? The Sox always seem to favor keeping the guy that they can't cut, which would be Sanchez.

5/16 games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) Also, consider this... his ITP condition has a lot to do with blood makeup and body chemistry (had a family member go through something similar, almost killed him). If you were him, even if you wanted to consider enhancing that way... wouldn't you be pretty worried about, I don't know... dying? Seems like he is the last guy who would want to be putting harsh chemicals in his bloodstream. I used to believe that as well, until Lance Armstrong used PED's after beating cancer. THAT is stupidity if you ask me. Phelgey seems to always hit lefty's well, and Charlotte is a hitter's park. Are his stats just as good on the road? Flowers should really be worried. If Phegley keeps hitting like this, there really is no excuse for him to not be given a chance and put Flowers' border-line Mendoza line on the bench.

Desperate times call for...three bold moves
There's no way Dunn is going to be moved. Even for a guy struggling as bad as Upton is, he's still only 28, and gives you good defense. Dunn is on the wrong side of 30, and terrible in the OF; literally provides no value to any team right now. Why anyone would want a reclamation project in Dunn at this point in his career is beyond me. I doubt the Sox could even get someone to take Dunn off their hands if they agreed to pay 100% of what's left on that contract. He's just one of those players that hit a wall and declined over night. Same thing happened to Dye after the All-Star break in 2009. I agree with Ramirez. I'm not sure how long Jeter is out, but I wonder if the Yankees would be a good fit?

GT 5/5/13 Sox @ Burger Royal 1:10 pm
QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) Sox catchers need a major upgrade. I think it's only a matter of time before Phegley is called up. Gimenez serves zero purpose to this team. Time for the Sox to see what they have there.

Sox @ Royals
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) I'm getting to the point where I officially don't like Kepp. I don't know who he reminds me of in the past, but he's pretty lousy at the plate. Guthrie is so confident when he faces the Sox. Until we start hitting him, he's gonna be Hall of Fame worthy against the Sox. Serious question: who's the better hitter. Tony Graffanino when he played, or Kepp? The first name that popped into my head: Darin Erstad...

Conor Gillaspie Analysis
If a mod wants to merge this with the thread started by pittshoganerkoff, please go right ahead. This probably should have been posted in there.

Conor Gillaspie Analysis
Link Pretty interesting. Justin Stone dissects his swing and gives his opinion on what he thinks Gillaspie will be moving forward.

Erik Johnson has added a change-up
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) Beck is off to a really big start too. Yeah, that's too true. It's nice to see him bounce back and really look like a steal in the draft. I always though Johnson was more polished than Beck though. At least there are a few glimmers of hope in the minors.

2013 Minor League Transactions
Remenowsky got activated off the D.L. for Charlotte.

Erik Johnson has added a change-up
I have a feeling this guy will be in the starting rotation for the Sox to end the season. He might be the only top prospect actually doing well in the minors this season.
-
White Sox acquire Casper Wells.
Septimo must really be hurt. Wouldn't be surprised is he's on his way to TJ. 60-Day D.L. for a strain seems really steep.

Top 8 Dark Horses for 2013
I'd say Taylor Thompson is a guy to keep an eye on. I know he's 25 and just now getting in Birmingham, but I think he could end up being a solid guy out of the pen. The Sox seem to be using him as a closer too, so that must say something about his composure on the mound.

Attendance up slightly over last year
IDK why, maybe it was because it was my first game of the year, but I thought there was a slightly more upbeat atmosphere at the park than last year. The staff seemed friendlier. I kind of felt like they were really trying a little harder. But it would be nice if the attendance improved from last year. Finally give the organization something to not BS about.

How Much Rope Does Dunn Have?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) Christopher Kamka @ckamka 10h Sunday, Adam Dunn broke the tie with Ron Kittle and now has 46 three-strikeout games in a White Sox uniform; most from 1916-current And just think... Kittle played 8 seasons with the Sox. Dunn has tied him in 2 1/2! I'll admit, I loved the Dunn signing at the time - a guy who averages 40+ HR from the left side and 100 BB's should have been a huge boost to the team. I didn't care about the 200 K's. I gave him a break from that awful first year, and was very content with what he did last year, but this has got to stop now. Drop him in the order already. The HR's aren't there. The BB's aren't there. The Sox need to at least be discussing this at some level. They don't have to flat out release him at this very moment, but if he doesn't turn it around he really does not belong on this team at the end of the year. Call me crazy, but I'd rather see what some like like Seth Loman's got. He can't do worse than Dunn. Hell, have a rotating DH for all I care with Keppinger, Gillaspie, and Beckham. Dunn is making Dye look good during that post All-Star Break collapse back in 2009.

4/16 Games
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) I just don't trust he will ever amount to more than a backup or utility infielder type. He doesn't impress me. Even if that's his future, I'll take it. When's the last time the Sox had a nice solid UTIL guy off the bench? The last few years, I think that has hurt the Sox.

2013 April White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) Outfielder Jordan Danks will be promoted from Triple-A Charlotte to join the Sox on Wednesday. -- Gonzo Why? Seriously makes no sense unless someone is hurt in the OF.

4/14 Games
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) Thompson and Sanchez have put up nice numbers to start the year out of the Barons' pen too. While some of the hitters have been off to disappointing starts, a lot of our pitchers have had promising starts to the year at least I read somewhere Thompson is a guy to watch this year, seems like he could be a sleeper. Not anything major, but a nice piece in the pen.

4/12 Games
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) Don't get me wrong, I go back and forth on the subject myself. However, maybe with toolsy prospects it makes more sense to rush them against better pitching before they develop bad against bad pitching and find it harder to make adjustments. Thompson is a great example, as he struggled at first in A+ but was awesome in the 2nd half. That's a good point. I never really thought of that, but he did figure things out last year it seems. Double-A is still the real jump though. Hawkins is still young enough too that he's got time. If he's really struggling like this a month from now, I'd be surprised if the Sox kept him in W-S.

Beckham out 6-8 weeks with fractured hamate bone
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) No roster spot. Could always slide Danks over to the 60. That would put him back around middle of June right? I don't know how quickly he seems to be coming back, but if I were the Sox I sure as hell wouldn't rush him. The extra BP arm sounds like a good plan too.

Beckham out 6-8 weeks with fractured hamate bone
Call up Greene. Perfect bench guy IMO. I wouldn't call up Sanchez quite yet.

What if we'd kept Gio Gonzalez?
QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) Gio had a solid minor league development pattern when we threw him in the Oakland-Swisher deal. He was major league ready when Oakland got him. Bad trade, I hated it immediately, but that's old news. But, speaking of that trade, has anyone picked up Ryan Sweeney after the Bosox cut him last month? Sweeney is in Triple-A for the Cubs.
