Teams abandoning shift against Dunn
Well, part of the problem is that the five NL playoff spots and a couple of the AL spots are just about locked down, so even if one of them thought Dunn would be a good upgrade for them at 1B/DH, it's hard to justify giving up anything valuable for him when you're pretty much a lock to make it in without him. And in general, teams just aren't in the mindset of giving up good prospects for veterans right now. In that respect, the Sox picked a bad year to suck.

Pete Rose, Gambling, PEDs
He gives 100% effort in games where he bet on his team to win, and gives less than 100% effort in games where he bet his team to lose (or didn't bet at all). As manager, he can make sure he has his best bullpen pitchers rested for games he bet his team to win.

Baseball on TV for the Out-of-Towner Sox fan
Sox/Royals on Thursday and Sox/Rangers on Friday are both the MLBN alternate game, so you will only get those games if you are in the home market of one of the teams in the primary game, which is Atlanta/St. Louis both nights.

Who Makes It Back to the post-season first, Sox/Cubs?
I said the Sox mainly because of the pitching talent, but also because the AL Central is a pretty weak division right now. Tigers are good but look headed for a decline. Indians and Royals never seem to be able to turn good farm systems into winning major league clubs, and the Twins are still years away.

Lindstrom Clears Waivers
Unfortunately, I think Lindstrom fits into the category of being too good to give away for nothing, but not good enough to get anything valuable in return for him.

It wasn't just a threat--the Sox actually did win!

Alexei Ramirez
Alexei's saber-stats benefit from being position-adjusted and he happens to be playing a position that is rife with putridness. When a guy has a 289/312/376 line and is above average for his position, that's pretty scary.

Teams abandoning shift against Dunn
This is probably going to be like talking to a brick wall, but here it goes anyway: Waiver claim decisions aren't made in a vacuum. Lots of players from every team are on waivers at the same time. Teams can't risk claiming multiple high salary guys because on the off chance they get stuck with all of them, they are totally screwed. Teams have to prioritize who they claim. DUNN GOING UNCLAIMED DOES NOT MEAN THAT NO TEAM WANTS HIM. It just means that he was not #1 on any team's list. With lots of starting pitchers and position players on waivers at the same time, a DH not getting claimed makes sense. As we've seen with Peavy and Rios, teams are reluctant right now to part with top prospects, so sitting on Dunn right now isn't Hahn's worst option at all.

Sale 6th in baseball in WAR
No, the 'R' in WAR stands for 'Replacement'. A replacement-value player is a player you could pick up off waivers at just about anytime. Somebody like Casper Wells or Tyler Greene, or most of the players on the Astros. A team full of replacement-value players would have a cumulative WAR of 0.0 and would win about 30% of their games. A roster with 25 guys all with a 1.3 WAR would win about 81 games, so I guess in that respect a 1.3 WAR player would be average.

Unless there was an obvious sign that Dunn's production was going to take a nosedive, then no, it wasn't a poor decision to sign him.

Sale 6th in baseball in WAR
A roster full of replacement players would be about 41-83 after 124 games.

Yeah, Braun accused the drug test sample collector of being a Cubs fan. That's clearly crossing the line.

Anybody Found The Last Couple Days Easier to Watch?
I meant that the edge from pick to pick between 2 and 5 is not as great. In other words, getting a top 5 pick is important, but winning a couple more games and getting the 5th pick instead of the 3rd isn't that big of a deal.

Anybody Found The Last Couple Days Easier to Watch?
So basically, there is a fairly decent edge in having the #1 pick, but not nearly as big of a gap from 2-5.

ARod suspended for entire 2014 season
ARod and the players union would easily win a grievance against the Yankees for refusing to play him.
