I wouldn't worry about the option too much. It's his first one, and he's 26. Worst-case scenario is that he's out of options going into his Age 29 season, and if he hasn't earned a major league job by then, he's not really worth keeping at AAA.

I'd go beyond just Obama and suggest that the main reason our entire political system is in such bad shape is that the set of qualities that get you elected to a position bear little resemblance to the set of qualities that help you successfully execute that position. I think it depends on the age level of the children. If these are 8-9-10 year old girls, I think expanding the strike zone like that just to get the game over with is a bad idea because these girls are still learning what a strike zone is and how to decide whether or not to swing. If these girls are 13+, then I'm fine with it because they should be mature enough to understand that they've won the game easily and the umpire is just trying to get the game over and save the other team further embarrassment.
