What was most pleasing about last night was the fact that the bottom of the lineup provided the majority of our offense, and not the likes of Jim Thome. If we can get that at the end of the season, it'll be a huge factor down the stretch in those important games.

If you wanted to trade for these 2, you'd have to dump salary. So that would mean you'd have to include a starter like Freddy or Jon. Jones is the type of guy KW would probably give up a BA or Sweeney for definitely as well. Doubt Atlanta will be trading either of them though.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Ehh, Liotta, you used to be cool. What happened? If we're trading a SP prospect out of him, Broadway and Lumsden, I'm hoping it's Ray personally. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) He seems to do well with Tampa System he dominated Montgomery last year in every outing and this Durham team has a lot of faces from Montgomery on it. He threw a CGSO against Montgomery last year his only one. Interesting observation. Considering the D-Rays new management like young pitching, maybe Tracey could be used as some trade bait for something.

I have a nice shiner under my eye now after a clash of heads in a game of rugby. Maybe next time I shouldn't be standing still, while someone else runs straight into me without looking.

Didn't the D-Backs keep Andy Green on the 40 man roster as a backup infielder, and they signed Easley instead of keeping Uggla? Oops.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Too bad Borch couldn't get that hint.. Well he ended up getting up a very nice bullpen piece in Matt Thornton, and he's doing ok for himself in Florida. It is hard though for someone like that to make a decision on a sport, and then if they don't do well, there's always the pressure to go back to the other one, especially when $$$$ comes into play. And Hutchison is now out of the league, while Henson ain't getting our of Parcells' doghouse anytime soon.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Lone Star. And I thought you were going to say Fosters. Gotta be Tiger Beer from Malaysia for me. Terrible hangover the next morning.

Congrats to Tony, SnB and Yas on the promotions, and to Rowand for becoming a PHT Mod. Well deserved guys.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) If we have to wait more than 4 years for Broadway to reach the majors he damn well better live up to the comaprison. By then, Garza and Carillo will have solidified themselves in the Minnesota and Padres rotation respectively. I think it's quite crazy to think he won't be up here for another 4 years, when some sites thought he would be better than some teams 5th starters a couple of months ago.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) I'll call it now... Kid will blow out his knee and never be heard from again... You really don't like any type of prospects do you. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) The money is impressive, but misleading. He only gets it if he sticks out all 5 years. Most of the money is at the very end of the contract. If he leaves the Cubs for football, he ends up being paid like a typical 2nd or 3rd rounder from the sounds of it. I think it was according to Rotoworld the other day, he could very well end up being a 1st round pick if he decided to concentrate on football, so the talent level is obviously there. And you've seen with cases like Drew Henson and Chad Hutchison, more often that not, if they don't succeed right off the bat, they'll go back to football.

The O.C I'll go with Scrubs. "Who has 2 thumbs and doesn't give a f***? Bob Kelso".

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Unless he can pitch I don't see him helping. Offense isn't the issue for Cleveland. Also, did anyone see the Cubs kick the crap out of Cleveland tonight? Getting pretty sad for the Tribe. Replacing Millwood with Byrd and Johnson had trouble written all over it. And so did losing 3 of their better relief pitchers in Howry, Rhodes and Riske as well.
-
Eyre would be the guy I'd prefer. I think we've got enough in terms of RHP relief, and getting Eyre would really give us a great group of lefties in Eyre, Thornton and Cotts. Plus I think it'll be easier to target a veteran RHP set-up guy like Hawkins in the off-season.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) Feedback anyone? Am I that much worse that Jason? Yes. And I haven't even listened to it yet.

He'd be right up there for the AL Cy Young reckoning as well. Also, his next scoreless inning of relief won't lower is ERA. It'll take it from 0.252 to 0.245.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) For this weekend only, I'm off the Adam Scott bandwagon (unless he wins) and I'm on the Geoff Ogilvy one instead. Good choice.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Twins' offensive rankings: Runs=11th Hits=10th HRs=13th SLG%=12TH Thing is, you've subtracted Castro (.231/.258/.308) and Batista (.236/.308/.388) and replaced them with Bartlett (.389/.450.444) and Punto (.287/.376/.352). Albeit they're extremely small sample sizes for the last 2, but Bartlett is easily an upgrade over Castro if Gardenhire actually plays him. Plus they also get Shannon Stewart (.298/.355/.376) off the DL soon. Jason Kubel came in this month as well and has a .819 OPS. So they're on the improve in terms of their offense. And if they can get a starter not named Liriano or Santana to actually produce, I think winning around 85 - 90 games is possible for them.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) Just copied this from knight's sig. About 3 months away from proclaiming Myself, Rowand, Greasy, and DBAH0 as geniuses. It ain't over yet, but it's looking good even though I didn't agree that the twins would win the WC. Sig bet with Rowand44 12/29/05: Finishing higher in the AL Central in '06: Rowand44 - Twins knightni - Indians Wanna side with me or Rowand44? PM me. Indians: knightni, 3E8, rangercal, ScottPodRulez22, TheBigHurt, chitownsportsfan, rventura23, Felix, Texsox, SoxFan1, santo=dorf, sayitaintso, Jordan4life_2006, TheDudeAbides, Steve9347 Twins: Rowand44, DBAH0, greasywheels121, SoxAce PS - He also thinks that the Twins will win the WC. I say they could get passed by Detroit and fall into 4th. I was just about to bring that back up. On Minny's offense, yeah it's bad, but at least they don't have Castro and Batista in the lineup anymore. Boy can Joe Mauer hit though.

Whisler's been great ever since Jim said he was quickman's favorite prospect. Hey Jim, does quickman have any other favorite prospects?

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) I'm going to the opening day next week and quite a few other games and i'm just curious what players I should be on the look out for. Probably some of the guys we drafted, and maybe some guys who played there last season, who may be repeating there.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) Isn't Wagner an injury risk? i know hes college polished and at one point people thought he was going to be an elite closer. I'm torn on this one, Tracey is the rare breed of high GB/K, but from what i've read with regards to Wagner he has a nasty slider. I guess if the organization is down on Tracey and he isn't going to be getting another shot with the sox and the Reds are truly intrestead then yeah, i would be cool with it. I would love to see what Don Cooper could do with Wagner. He falls into the good stuff, not much control type of pitcher right now, which the Sox seem to like. Personally, while Ozzie is still here, I can't see a long - term future for Sean Tracey on this ballclub. And that's not really fair for the kid, but what's happened has happened, and I think if the right move came along to improve this ballclub potentially, KW would have no problem including Tracey in a deal.

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
DBAHO replied to DePloderer's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Portugal gonna beat Iran 2-0. Not their best performance, dominated possesion, but they got the job done. Cristiano Ronaldo is gonna be their key guy when it's all said and done. He HAS to stay 100% fit for them to have ANY chance. -
QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) It also seems that Uribe is getting some better swings on the ball. It kind of wierd that both of them, are doing it at the same time. And suddenly we're scoring very well again. Having a deep lineup where everyone is contributing puts so much pressure on the opposing pitcher.

Let's hope Milton's flyball ways continue today.
