  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) I think so. I think he'd be a great replacement for Scott Elarton in their rotation. They need Kevin Millwood or a Kevin Millwood type though, afterall he was only their best pitcher last season. Yeah, they really need to bring back Millwood, since they're already going to lose Elarton. But for what Bora$$ is demanding, that's unlikely to happen. So I mean you look at Cleveland and you think they'll be a little bit better next season offensively, but they're definitely losing some pitching, and that's going to hurt em.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Definitely a good signing for the Padres. Absolutely. Their offense as bad it is, would have just become that much worse without Giles. They're already losing Hernandez, and Miggy Olivo is likely taking over as the everyday C unless they sign Brad Ausmus. So re-signing Giles was absolutely crucial for them, because guys like Vinny Castilla, well, they ain't upgrades. Will be interesting to see how Mike Cameron does for them at Petco though. Probably won't have good offensive numbers, but he'll be very valuable for them.
  3. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Where are we getting this idea that BA is suddenly a proven Major-League player? From the .176 that he hit in last September? He hit 2 HRs in one game. Many players have done that and promptly gone on to career AAAA players. Who said that? But then again, basing a judgement from 34 AB's as YAS said, is well insane. Anderson hit .290/.360/.469 at Triple-A. He plays good defense, so I think most people are comfortable with him going into 2006 as the CF, unless a better solution in the trade market without giving up too much can be found.
  4. We'll be re-stocking in the draft. Of course we did so well from that draft last year getting Gio, Lumsden, Liotta, Whisler (albeit he hasn't been good) building up that depth in the first place.
  5. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) He put up decent numbers for decent money. So you think a .757 OPS for a corner OF in a hitters park making $4,500,000 is decent?
  6. To a hell of a poster, Happy B-Day Zach!!!!!
  7. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) he just hasn't had a good year. Has Harrington ever had a good year?
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Uribe scares me at the 2 hole. If it's the Juan I saw in September and the early 2004 version, then I think it's an excellent move. We might as well try it anyways. If it doesn't work, Iguchi can just be moved back if we need it.
  9. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Would mueller be super sub?? Probably, he can play 2nd as well, so he gives you an option there as well. Reading the main Trib article on the Kong re-signing I saw that they're going to try Uribe 1st in the #2 spot, so Gooch is pretty much assured to be hitting lower down the order, which gives you even more of an increase in power. Alex Cintron could be a possible trade option as well for that INF spot, plus he's a switch hitter, and the Sox have had interest in him before. With Royce Clayton leaving, I don't know if Josh Byrnes will give him up though, but Stephen Drew could be ready by mid 2006 anyways.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) Dbaho, who typed that pathetic babble about Gio in your sig? That was Jeckle.
  11. Wow, another great day for us White Sox fans in the off-season. No matter what you may think about Paulie not being worth $12M etc., this move put simply just had to be done. He offers a lot more than the stats the he puts up during the season. What happens now? Probably either we're pretty much done, or we may a move to trade for Pierre or sign Mueller for the #2 spot. But we've got a BIG presence in that middle of the lineup now, and hopefully we won't be seeing as many posters criticize this offense as what we saw this season.

QUOTE(POTUSChris @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) Rice. The few times I've had it, I ended up sick. Bleh. I pretty much won't eat rice anymore. About 6 years ago I was in China for 5 weeks and pretty much lived on the stuff, except it was sticky and just didn't taste good at all.

    Foods you can't stomach

At a Morning Tea at work yesterday, I bit into a pastry that I thought was a Party Pie. Instead if had some mix of egg, runny tomato and some sort of meat. Needless to say, the Chocolate Donut went down better.
  14. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Baby.
  15. Man I'd be pissed if I was a Bruins fan.
  16. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) Ron Villone: signed 2-year deal worth 4.2M thru 2006 on 1/18/05- + he receives a 500K signing bonus and salaries of 1.7M in 2005 and 2M in 2006- + he can earn 100K in performance bonuses based on app. and another 1M in incentives if he starts 30 games: 25K each for 50 and 55 games and 50K for 60 games; 200K for 20 starts and 250K each for 25 and 30 starts- + FLA owes him about 588K in 2005 after trade from SEA Agent: Scott Boras Marte IIRC, makes even more than Villone, over $2 mill His agent is Bora$$. Ok scrap that.
  17. Super Steve, Heather and myself x-bombing the hell out of each other >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chat Crew.
  18. I'm just going to say this on the Thome trade. I'm very happy we brought in a bonafide middle of the order hitter, but I think we could have maybe given up a little less (e.g Ray Liotta instead of Gio), which is what the people against the trade are saying. But of course, we'll hav to wait and see how Gio and Dan do in the future. On the Rowand vs. Dye, on last season, Dye wins easily. Better OPS, more power, better plate discipline etc. Now we don't know if that's going to continue, for all we know, Rowand could easily rebound in Philly, and Dye could regress back to his Oakland numbers. But I think Dye's going to stay around his 2005 numbers again, if he can stay healthy, which is of course always the key with him.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) That prospect is chris young right? If I'm Larry Beinfest, that's why I'm probably gonna ask for. But KW won't do that (or at least we hope). Just throwing it out there, but you gotta remember what the Marlins gave up for Villone in the 1st place (and remember the whole Villone for B-Mac discussions right around the trade deadline when we didn't make a move and posters were venting PEOPLE!!!!).
  20. Something that people may not have considered, Florida look like they're going to trade Ron Villone. If a Marte + prospect for Pierre and Villone deal was possible, would people be interested? FWIW here's Villone's splits etc. BEFORE he came to Florida. 2005 - vs. Lefties .222 AVG, 1.22 WHIP. 2.54 ERA Pre ASB, 1 HR given up in 35.2IP.
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) but we enjoyed it! Define we. This thread has been made to hopefully improve the discussion aspect of people's political views, and to cut down on the slanging etc. b/w people. But everyone is entitled to their own view about what they believe, even though you may not agree with they think. Hopefully we'll see a little less slanging, and more quality discussion.
  22. A downpayment on a new house in Arizona.......... Probably a new mobile phone, otherwise there's probably not a lot else that I want. I got my White Sox Jersey, or maybe some more work clothes for my job that I started at last week.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Yeah Howard really impressed me big time. You didnt really hear his name a lot but what he have 19 points 17 boards thats awesome. I know Francis is banged up so I was expecting him to be shutdown because he has trouble w/ kirk anyways. I think Stevenson or whatevr is a crap player.... and even if you guys will be a little on the small size has the magic ever tried a Nelson/Francis combo? That Turklogu seems like he couldnt miss a shot today Idonno how he usually is but he was awesome.... although he seemed like a real ass and I have trouble rooting for guys like that in the NBA. Yeah Dwight had another good game, he's a lot more consistent now, but he needs to improve his FT% to at least the 70% mark. Stevenson's starting because Hill decided just before training camp, that he wanted Francis to play at PG not SG, and not for Dooling and Nelson to have an open competition at PG, plus he plays pretty good defense. But it's a position we need to upgrade. Stevenson's not a good shooter, and we need an outside threat there. Someone like Adam Morrison or even J.J Redick (watch me get flamed), could be options in the draft, unless we take a big like Aldridge (since there's like no GOOD C prospects at all). Hedo's a very streaky player. He's an excellent 6th man for us, because he pretty much provides offense. But he probably fitted better in our up tempo offense last season, but still his last few games have been encouraging. He was a good signing for the MLE. For him being an ass, since I pretty much never get to watch Magic games I don't know, but I really haven't read anything about that. On the Bulls, Charley Rosen did his review of them tonight. It's a good read; http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/5118986
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Wow Dbaho I dont know if this is the norm but your team plays dirty... its like a team full of Nocioni's almost. And I mean Nocioni on one of his bad days. That would be Brian Hill's influence, and I'll take it, considering the MASSIVE improvements we've had on defense compared to previous years. Unfortunately, we're just not that good offensively at all right now. Our team is really banged up though right now. Francis and Stevenson are playing thru injuries, and Hill and Dooling are out for a while. Still tonight was probably the worst game those our guards have had all season. Francis was giving up TO's and DeShawn didn't have a good one either, which was a shame because Turkloglu and Dwight both had pretty good nights, with Jameer Nelson doing his Ben Gordon impression off the bench. I think we can still sneak in for a playoff spot though, IF, we improve offensively, which I think we will.
