Cowboys sign
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 4, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) You learn something new every day. I didn't know Thomas Jones and Julius Jones were brothers. If you watched the Thanksgiving game on FOX last year, it was a bit hard NOT to pick up.

Official Game Thread 5-3-05
If the offense is ever going to get going, now is the time. Put the likes of Dye out there, give him AB's, and let him come around.

Ordonez exit made Sox better
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 4, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) We've been complaining that the media hasn't been considering "the obvious". I was glad to see this article for those that have been reading all the drivel about how the Sox can't possibly be as good as last year. Well said, but I think most of us knew in the off-season that this team was going to be better, if most things fell into place, and they have, so in my mind it's a little late.

Konerko contract year....want him back?
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 3, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) If the Sox can't or won't resign Konerko... I would love to see the Sox somehow try to get Overbay...anyone know Overbay's contract status?? Now this is a scenario I definitely would like to consider, because the Brewers have Prince Fielder ready and waiting in 2006, and he's going to be a good one. That said, Overbay is one hell of a player (.355/.484/.645) and Milwaulkee will demand a king's ransom for him. Look at some more of his stats as well; BB - 18 K - 13 HR - 5 RBI - 16

Thank you Captain Obvious.

Impressed by Iguchi?
KW said he expects the power to come eventually as well, pretty much a mirror image of Hideki Matsui's 1st season for the Yankees. Either way, it's been one of the better off-season signings without a doubt so far. Oh and Kaz Matsui and his $7,000,000 salary, .274/.330/.321 compared to Gooch's splits of .333/.371/.370.

Browns TE Winslow Injured
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2005 -> 05:34 AM) Genius. I wonder if the Browns can void his contract?

Konerko contract year....want him back?
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 3, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) It's really too bad the really good crop of free agents are two years away. Hence why I think if Koney leaves (if the Yanks over him more than 10 mill, I think that will happen), it's good to try a sign a stopgap like J.T Snow, Doug Mientkiewicz or Kevin Millar for 1 season. Then at the end of 2006, the Sox have a lot of flexibility. They can move Josh Fields to 1st, if Joe Crede continues to perform well, they can call up Casey Rogowski and use him in a platoon situation with Ross Gload possibly, or they can go for a major free agent when there are quite a few available. Oh and welcome aboard Hideaway Lights.

Official NBA Playoffs Thread
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) Where Dbaho and Qwerty? Saying the Nets could possibly upset the Heat. lol. They didn't even really need Shaq to complete the sweep. Meh. Jason Kidd quit.

Cowboys sign
Meh. Barber's the backup, and Julius Jones is the starter. Still a good pickup though.

Rondell White
QUOTE(Steff @ May 3, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) White acted like a sissy.. I agree with that. However... had him and Garland gotten into it.. White would have kicked his ass easily. White would have probably gone on the DL for a bruised knuckle or something like that as well.

Jon Garland
I think he's still arbitration eligible, but the Sox agreed a 1 year deal with him this season for about $3.4 million. I think he's got 1 year left of arbitration, but I'm probably wrong on that.

2005 League One thread
BUMP 1st month is over and I'm 8 games out in front. Not too shabby considering I missed the draft.

The New Sox
From the Hardball Times, a good read, also Aaron's blog is taking comments now (you'll see mine on there somewhere);

High-Octane Offense?
Perhaps he should be the team motivator for the offense as well.

if we are still in first place at deadline

5/1 Games
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) I get the feeling Borch could be involved in a deadline deal. Especially if a bottom of the barrel team is who we deal with. I've said it before, Pittsburgh is the team. I really think something could get done there.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Beautiful post. That is the one constant between all the pitching staff. CERA is an extremely underrated stat, and the difference between now and last season would be just huge. Remember Ben Davis? He had the worst CERA for all 4 catchers last season. Thank you Chris Wider, thank you.

Garland Haters and Lovers prior to 05'
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Of course I made the hater list. Before this year, Garland hasn't thrown to his potential. What else was there to say about him? Now that he is, I have no problem saying he's doing a great job. I think the issue that came up with Garland last season and off-season, was that we all know the potential that he had. His backers wanted to keep him around so he could find that potential, but others thought he was just going to be the same 11-12 win with a high 4 ERA. And I think this statement sums it up perfectly. Thank god this wasn't the Kip Wells situation all over again.
