    Cousins Wed....

    They're obviously originally from Shelbyville. "But why would we want to marry our cousins?" "Because they're so attractive!!!"
  2. I'm just going through some of Dye's stats from this year and last to see if there's any correlation from his struggles so far. Now there were some interesting stats that I have found from last season that I would like to point out. - In 2004, in 333 AB's in NIGHT games, Dye had splits of .228/.294/.438. Now could someone point out to me how many night games the Sox have played in so far, and how many they do play this year compared to day games? - Also in 2004 FWIW, Dye had splits of .327/.388/.508 in DAY games. - Against righties, Dye's OBP was .69 worse than against lefties. 72 more K's from 210 more AB's. Now most of us (including myself) thought Dye was a good signing for the price, considering he would probably hit more HR's than he did last season from hitting at Oakland. Maybe that isn't so cut and dry now unfortunately, although it is still early. He is under pressure though.
  3. When I get to a game. Uhh no, but I think we'll get there soon enough, if the players keep up the good work on the field. A crowd over 30,000 against Detroit was pretty good I thought even though it was on a Saturday Night.
  4. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ May 2, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) Or Google works backwards in the southern hemisphere. I thank Rand McNally for that.
  5. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 1, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Actually it's not... It did for me. Maybe I'm just special. :headshake
  6. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 1, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) Why did he retire in the first place? I can't imagine no one wanted to sign him after what he showed in Milwaukee. I think it was because he wanted to play in the Olympics but I could be wrong on that.
  7. Blah. When you put in White Sox Message Board on a google search, SoxTalk is the #1 site that comes up.
  8. I loved watching this guy in the 90's for the Brewers;
  9. Some guys who stick out at me from qwerty's list; Mientkiewicz - Could be like the Pierzynski situation playing out all over again. Could want to sign with us for 1 year or 2 to re - up his value again, if he can hit over .300 for us like he did in Minny. Excellent defensive 1st baseman which I sure will be a plus for Ozzie. Currently hitting .238 with 4 HR's in New York for the Mets. Kevin Millar - Definitely an excellent guy in the clubhouse, and a pretty good 1st baseman although he's currently hitting .253 with 0 HR's this month. Don't know Boston would want to let him go unless they decide to upgrade. J.T Snow - For reasons that I outlined earlier. In 20 games he's hit .322 with 0 HR's and 6 RBI's. Scott Hatteberg - Wouldn't be a bad stop gap although his age at 35 is getting up there, and he's a Billy Beane favorite with that team option, so I doubt he'll be available, unless they decide to go for some youth.
  10. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 1, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) Anyone else notice him taking a first pitch fast ball right down the middle of the plate nearly every time up now? Then he swings at the s***ty pitches and either k's or pops it up. When you are going bad you are going bad. He really needs to get his s*** together along with dye. I still think it would be a bad idea to bring him back next year for any significant amount of money but we will see. You know the Yankees are definitely going to make an offer most likely. If Konerko does leave, who's going to replace Konerko though? A guy that could be possibly interesting is J.T Snow, who definitely doesn't hit for much power, but hits for a real good average and is an excellent defender. Could be a good stopgap for a year or 2 before a guy like Casey Rogowski or even Josh Fields (if they decide to move him to 1st) is ready.
  11. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 1, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) if you have a dl spot open, pick him up. good upside there if you have the space To me, he's only an average fantasy OF at best. Just won't hit for enough power at Comerica... period.
  12. I drafted Peavy in about the 5th round in a fantasy league this year. To me, he could have easily been NL Cy Young if he didn't have some DL Stints last year (although Jason Schmidt was fantastic), but he's just come on so well, and isn't experiencing a slump like Oliver Perez, which is an interesting comparison b/w the 2.
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 1, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) KONG especially. It seems like it's always feast of famine with him. This is a contract year for him so maybe it'd help his cause if he'd start playing like it. Contract wise it is an interesting situation to watch. The Sox said they would wait through the season to see what type of numbers he was putting up before they rushed into a deal. Now he does have 7 home runs, but he also has a low average which isn't helping his cause. That said, at the moment he's really only one of the 2 guys who can pretty much draw a regular walk (Pods being the other).
  14. Was all this pessimism because I wasn't there!!! I think most of the time, most of us are fairly pessimistic, and that comes with probably what has happened over the past few seasons, and our whole history etc. We've had a great start, but before today, our last 3 games haven't been good at all, and we all desperately want us to return to the way we were playing when we were winning (which albeit actually wasn't that much better than the last 3 before today). I take YASNY's point very well into consideration as we should all be absolutely stoked with the way this team has started off this month, but I also take qwerty's point in that this team still has holes and weaknesses that need improving. I wasn't watching the game today (stupid work), but if I was, I probably would have almost jumped off the cliff at the end of the 6th, you just can't strand 3 guys on base with 0 out. Luckily, we should all say one hell of a thank you very much to Mr. Hernandez for lighting a fire under his teammates asses, and even though he may not have been screaming much English , I'm sure his teammates got the message.
  15. Time for the Sox to win the series. Let's hope Garland can keep doing what he's been doing, and the offense can actually put some runs on the board (I'm looking your way Carl and Paulie).
  16. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) The d-pad is for steals, the stick is for trying to hit homers. This is for PC, not PS2 or XBOX. Guess I should have pointed that out earlier.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 1, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Im guessing Owens isnt looking overmatched anymore since it seems he has been hitting the ball really well, but how has Young looked at the plate? Young's average is up to .244 now and IIRC he was in the low .200's last week so he's been picking it up in that regard. Still got a lot of things to work on though. 30 K's, 7 BB's with an OBP of .305.
  18. I have the game now, and I have a question. If I have a guy on 1st, and say I'm Morneau at the plate, how do I not go for a steal when I press up and right, trying to hit a homer as the batter?

    Prom Night

    QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 1, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Which site did you get your blow up doll from? I was thinking she came in a crate from Mongolia or some country like that.
  20. Hopefully this means Petrol Prices back under a dollar a litre down here.
  21. Wasn't it about 8 to 12 weeks? In any case, I doubt he'll make it back until after the All - Star Break. This is Maggs we're talking about. If only he had some of Dusty's holy water.
  22. I thought this was worth sharing from a Little League game of Footy today;
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) If it's just healing pain that will eventually go away and if he's not going to injure it further by running on it, why not just shoot up his foot to numb it and get his ass in the game? Wouldn't there possibly be long - term side effects from doing that?

    Films

    I'm in the middle of watching American Beauty. God I love that movie.
  25. Imagine that BA/RISP stat right now. Yuck. And Robertson had 7 BB's, and we only scored 1 run on him. Double yuck.
