Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
DBAHO replied to southsideirish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So long as Fosters isn't anywhere on the list, you guys should be happy. -
The team is winning and it'd not really becoming that big of a distraction. When they do start losing and Ozzie is still running his mouth off, then yes there will be a problem.
-
How many front pages did we make the front of today?
-
Let's hope Scotty boy can keep it up. Certainly him and Iguchi at the top of the order have completely changed the dynamics up there, and lets hope they can keep it up. And don't forget this, even though it's not the best situation, even if Podsednik or Dye do struggle and they won't be starting for us or not even on this team (and let's hope it doesn't even come to that), we've got Brian Anderson who's doing quite nicely down at Charlotte in AAA.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Phh... :rolly Marte's a one inning pitcher. He gutted that second inning out. Major -- major props to our best reliever three years runnin. And I don't expect that to change this year, either. It's quite funny really. Everyone thought last year was a "down year" for Marte. And maybe it was, but wouldn't you take a 6-5 3.42 ERA from most relievers if you could? And look at those splits. Only hitting .185 off him and only 1 HR in 27 AB's. That's huge.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) 3E8 I love the Avy. I echo the sentiment. One of the better ones no doubt. And the Sox just keep chugging along.
-
And yes I am going to be sucking with this team for the next decade and a half. Watch me crash and burn.
-
B-Mac doesn't need to brought up to make 1 or 2 starts. Hell if you have to call up someone, make it Adkins (although he might be running out of options). Hopefully Jose does recover though, so this shouldn't be an issue ala the Mark Buerhle situation.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) And I think he's looney as can be. The Sox bullpen is set up for the long haul. We 4 or 5 guys that can close. You can't get much better than that in the bullpen. Agreed and there's a lot of room for improvement still. Cotts is trying to work things out, and his outing in Detroit after Garland's great game was promising. Vizcaino hasn't really hit his stride yet but has looked very good in patches, while Shingo's early problems have been well documented, his last outing was also good. One guy I'm most glad to see pitching well though is Damaso Marte. There were question marks on him coming into the season, and there still is regarding his velocity and his breaking balls to the left handers, but in late game situations in the 8th and 9th he's been really, really good which is more than you can say for last year.

Until we actually WIN the division, this is going to keep coming up again, and again and again. Deal with it.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) Agreed. Pippen is one of the GREATEST defenders of all time. I would never view the man that gave us 6 championships as a "dumbass." I'm sure posters at bbbb or whatever know a lot more than a six-time NBA World Champion, 4th in steals all-time, playoffs in 16 of 17 years, NBA All-Defensive Team from 1991-2000, 7-time All-Star, two-time Olympic gold medal winner, and one of the 50 greatest players of all-time... But I'm going to go ahead and side with Pippen. Seriously though, bad-mouthing Pippen is sacriligeous coming from a true Bulls fan, in my opinion... So if Pippen said Jason Kidd isn't an elite PG because he's never won a championship or that Jamal Crawford is a good SG because he can score, would you believe that too? Where would the Spurs be defensively if they didn't have Bowen. Imagine if they kept Hedo Turkoglu instead, because even though I think he's an excellent 6th man, he's hopeless on the defensive end. Can someone just find for me the jobs Bowen has done on big name players in games (including Pippen) and what he's held them too.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) It doesn't make him look like a dumbass. One of the greatest, if not the greatest lock down defender in history would know. How come Bowen didn't latch on with other teams like the Bulls??? How come when he was with the Heat his defense wasn't any good??? What Pip said was truth. BTW, The Bulls will continue tradition and wear black shoes for at least tommorow's game. Maybe because Bowen just had no offensive game back then whatsoever. The game of basketball has changed over the past 10 years, and lockdown guys like Bowen (who is one of the best if not the best defensive swingman in the game today) and Trenton Hassell who don't really get by well on offense have become very valuable on their teams.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) I'm not a smoker and I hate cig smoke around me, but I have no problem with it anywhere outdoors. Where exactly are smokers supposed to smoke if even outdoors is wrong? When I have to go to the washroom, I have to go to the washroom, period. I put it this way then. Away from a small area that is heavily populated. Go outside of the stadium, take a puff in your own little space, and come back in. And baseball's a perfect game to do that, because there are lots and lots of breaks. -

On Maggs, he goes on and on in the off-season about how KW stiffed him when it came to the contract, now he says he doesn't have any problems with him. That tells me all I need to know on his character. -
Welcome to the demands of an NBA superstar. Please revise on case studies Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady before discussing this topic further.

On the smoking issue, if the Sox want to make going to the ballpark a truly family fun experience, make the stadium a non - smoking one. They do it all for the stadiums down here, just make the people go outside to do it and they can come back in. -
As I said previously Charlotte beat Toledo 8-2. Villacis gave up 2 runs in 3 innings and Munoz pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief as did Stephens, Walker and Baj. Jorge Toca hit 2 home runs going 4 for 5, Borch was 1 for 5 with 2 runs, and Anderson was 0 for 3 with a BB. Kanny beat Hickory 4-3. Adam Russell pitched 5 innings giving up 1 ER. Little picked up the win with 3 innings of scoreless relief. Hansen homered and Castillo went 3 for 4.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 04:20 AM) http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/8403790 LMFAO. That is a great piece.

It all depends on this equation; Does Gload's value in hitting outweigh the defensive mistakes he'll be prone to make in the outfield? Does Gload fielding in the outfield increase the chances of giving up more runs than he would score in the batting box. To me, I'd probably say yes, but that doesn't make me still want Timo Perez in the everyday lineup.
-
Once again a perfect example of the type of games the Sox need to win, when they don't play at their best, but get some clutch hits, good pitching and the bullpen gets the job done.
