QUOTE(S720 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) DBAHO, It supposes to be a HUGH COMPLIMENT. Personally, even without the Iguchi's signing, Kenny has done a wonderful job. What I meant "Flying Under The Radar" was because not a single Chicago reporter has news of this signing when we forum posters have already known. It's ironic that later on today, the news will come out via Bruce Levine or Offman! I know, I wasn't having a go at you personally. I'm just saying people had double standards when it came to that term, only a month ago people wanted KW fired, and now he's done a great job, and made the moves that he's had to make. And yes we've broken it first here, well a White Sox related site anyways, there's no mention on WSI.

QUOTE(S720 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) No No We Can't. It supposes to be Flying Under The Radar! If we sign Iguchi today, this signing truly has the meaning of "Flying Under The Radar." Great job Kenny. How ironic. After the Sox signed Walker and had that mini lull period, KW was getting crucified on here for "Flying Under the Radar".

I'm going to get me a White Sox Wallpaper up come April when the season kicks off, I'm hoping Gene's still going to make those month by month.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) With the Marlins offer reportedly upped from 3 yrs and $36 mill to 4 yr and $50 mill, the Marlins would almost have to trim salary. [and have a rock solid, concrete plan in place after signing Delgado--trading Encarnacion and his $4 mill salary won't be easy]. The marlins operate very much like the sox payroll wise. Upping in one area, means cutting back in others. With position players like Delgado, Lowell and Castillo the only ones signed for big money [Lowell makes $8 mill a yr], and young pitching that will cost more money in the yrs ahead, a guy like Castillo could very well be cut loose in the Carlos Lee mold type deal. If Delgado is signed, I wouldn't be surprised to hear "rumors" from the regular radio and print sources circulating about possible trades of Castillo The Marlins may have to add Jason Stokes their top prospect with Encarnacion to get a deal done. Not too many teams are going to want to acquire Juan by himself.

Anyone else notice how much Jim Courier overuses the word "gorgeous"?

In my last 2 years of High School I got regular Summer Vacation Homework that I had to do, especially reading books for English. I know it isn't glamorous, but you'll be glad you read the book and answered some topic questions then, instead of a day or two before a big exam.

I don't really buy into the comparison of the Yankee uniforms either, let them be called the pinstripes. I think our uniforms are one of the best in the league. And the leaders would definitely be Paul Konerko (a big reason why they want to get him locked up long - term again) and Mark Buerhle.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball sign ups!!!

We had about 5 leagues last year I think I recall. It looks like we could get up to 6 or 7 this year, and we could have at least 2 to 3 active day to day leagues, we had 1 last season, which was league #1. Southsider was the commish of one, and I wouldn't mind volunteering to do the other, if we could have multiple teams in different league, depending on numbers, I'm commishing to SoxTalk Alleyball League right now. -
Let's see here. Last off-season. The Sox sign Shingo, Mike Jackson after losing Tub O' Goo Fartolo Colon and Flash Gordon. This off-season. The Sox sign A.J Pierzynski, El Duque, Jermaine Dye and Dustin Hermanson. They trade Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik, Luis Vizcaino and Travis Hinton. They could just about be ready to sign Tadahito Iguchi or trade for Luis Castillo considering the Marlins may be very close to signing Delgado. I don't know how you could call it a dull off-season.

Put me down for League #1 again. -
If Delgado wants to win and play in playoffs he'll go to Florida. If he cares more about his own numbers and money, he'll go to Baltimore.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) Not really. Jackass Jones has no where near the trade value that Hunter has. Plus, Jones is only making $5 million this year. They could trade him at the deadline quite easily if they want to. This is similar to how Beane traded his best two pitchers in Hudson and Mulder instead of Zito because they had the most trade value. In other words -- buy low, sell high. Jones @ 5 mill - .254, 20 HR's and 80 RBI's. Hunter @ 8 mill - .271, 23 HR's and 81 RBI's. I wouldn't say Hunter would have real high value right now, he could go back to his 2003 form and teams will be wary of this. But Jones would be easier to replace than Hunter as well, unless they decide Lew Ford is ready to be the everyday CF instead of the DH. Houston would be the only team I could see with a real need for a guy like Hunter, considering they really need a stud defensive CF, Craig Biggio ain't going to cut it. Whether Tim Purpura does this, I don't know, I think he just lets the young guys play, or trade for someone a bit cheaper, but a team like the Cubs could still acquire Jones, if they are stuck with Sosa, and can't sign Maggs. Still a lot of possibilities for the off-season leading up to spring training.
-
It's more likely the Twinkies would trade Jackass Jones before Hunter anyways.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) Hendry has been talking to Maggs' agent recently, that's all. If Sosa stays though, which looks more likely every day, will Maggs settle to play LF though? I've heard that could be a possible issue.
-
Apparently every team that Houston has talked to for a big league bat e.g Texas about Soriano wants Brandon Backe as part of any package. Jason Lane could be traded, although the Astros wouldn't want to give him up. But the Twinkies could be doing this to get all their pitchers locked up especially Santana to a long - term deal, but no this is the first I've heard of it, and I think it's probably BS.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:54 AM) Didn't Iguchi need to be moved from SS to 2B because of arm troubles? That was from a shoulder problem in 2002, so his stats for that year shouldn't really be considered. Ok I'm going to make a repost on all the information that I found on Iguchi in case some people don't have all the facts and because I think it's relevant; 1 - Iguchi's possible stats if he moved in 2004 (late 2003 piece): 2 - Forum Thoughts;

You think Eddy Curry wishes he could do this? http://abfhm.free.fr/basket.htm

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) Major upgrade? Harris is a great defensive 2B. Tadahito would have a much better arm than Willie, and his range would probably be a little bit better. Not that I'm saying Willie's bad, I probably shouldn't have used the word major, but nevertheless, it's still an upgrade.
-
The real question mark I have about them right now is their zone defense. I think eventually other teams are going to find out how to score effectively on it. Of course with the upcoming road games next month, the Bulls need to go on a mini run here, and Skiles knows that, he ain't going to ease up on them anytime soon.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) Not to throw a wet blanket over this topic, but has anyone confirmed via translation that Iguchi is in Chicago for a physical? Or for that matter, quote/translation on the $5.85M offer? I've looked at his official site and obviously can't decipher anything. Nor can I find any new info in Google or Yahoo. ?? The only reference that I've seen is from the Japanese Baseball Forums about the 2 year $6 mill deal that Moss proposed. But no, I haven't seen anywhere on the net about a physical, or the Sox agreeing to the $5.85 million deal.

I know a lot of people are only really considering the offensive impact of signing Iguchi. But Tadahito will also be a major upgrade over Harris in the defensive department as well, a DP combo or Uribe and Iguchi will be one of the best in the league.
