Not a Typical Rebuild According to White Sox
Donaldo replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Soha @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Quintana wouldn't be getting shopped if this wasn't a total rebuild. As said above, they can't admit they're trying to lose 105 games. With or without Q, I still think this team will win 70+ games. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) By the way, just want to say before it becomes a topic...Raines was a good player for the Sox, but he's not ours. He doesn't deserve to get his number retired or a statue. If the Sox want to have a Tim Raines Day where they give away something, and give him a gift, great. But don't get crazy. His best years were in Montreal. He should wear an Expos hat.

These updates have really made the offseason bearable. Thank you. Spring Training is less than a month away!

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) That opportunity was never coming at the Score. Goff had to leave to get that experience. EXACTLY. Goff did a ton of fill-in work (especially when McNeil was in rehab) and he was obviously ready for his own show, but there were no openings at The SCORE. When CBS launched that new FM talker in Atlanta, Jason wisely accepted the offer to go there. Getting a job in the business usually (but not always) goes as such... 1. Intern 2. Producer 3. Part time/fill-in host 4. Your own show Ex-jocks get to skip steps 1-3 QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Weird hearing Bernstein and Goff together. I think this is actually better than Boers and Bernstein. I thought the same thing. As long as they stay away from the Social Justice crap and stick to sports, this could be a winning combo here. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Sounded like it might as well be a pregame Cubs show I find myself listening to Carmen and Jurko a LOT more than Speigel and Whoever these days.

QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) I don't buy the argument of having to move away and take a chance and come back to Chicago to get a talent job. Laurence Holmes never moved away, did he? IIRC, he got started as a producer for the old WMAQ Sports Huddle back in the mid 90s.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Wait, North isn't doing Webio anymore?? This article only mentions North, but I'm willing to bet McNeil and Teinowitz are being considered as well. Is Another All-Sports Station Coming To The Chicago Market In 2017?

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) Just saw on mlbtraderumors that Micah Johnson has been designated for assignment Anyone think we should bring him back? As organizational depth only.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) yea Bernstein and Holmes both showed up in the last hour, both desperately trying to seem poignant and make the moment about themselves rather than Boers. The stuff with McNiel, Jiggets and North was awesome but you just knew the "evolved" Score personalities were gonna barge it and ruin it all, and sure enough they did. Terry's radio partner for the past 17 years was only there for an hour? McNeil and North are both free agents now, aren't they?

I just had a thought... Was Bernstein there?

What low-key Sox prospect are you most excited to get a chance
Donaldo replied to bmags's topic in FutureSox Board
Alvarez and Engel now, hopefully Micker Adolfo in a few years. -
QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) He has acted as if he is saying good bye on a much larger scale than just his career and the friends he made. I've thought the same thing. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Honestly, this show is incredible today. Must-listen stuff. McNeil was hilarious. It sure was great to hear his voice again. I wish he'd come back to sports radio, but it almost sounded like he doesn't want to (based on his vague conversation with Terry in the 2:00 hour) Will a podcast be available?

Abreu's value won't ever be much higher than it is right now, and it will likely start dropping in the next several years. He'll be a full time DH sooner rater than later.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Smith has a stronger arm and is more athletic, but mechanically he's still pretty rough and not a great receiver. Pitchers like working with him though, he's very good on that front. How good his receiving skills can get will dictate his future. There is some offensive potential, but the bat isn't quick and I am not sure he can make enough contact. He does draw some walks and has some raw power. But he's going to be 29 in 2017, so there really isn't a lot of projection left, like there is with Narvaez. My view is, bring in a veteran to platoon with Narvaez, who I think is more likely to be a major league-caliber catcher than Smith. I was quite impressed with the strength and accuracy of Smith's arm. But I think he will ultimately go the way of Donny Lucy.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) Catching coordinator is the same guy - John Orton. He gets high marks for his development of defensive improvements for Tyler Flowers (who blossomed into a very good receiver), Josh Phegley (who went from awful to serviceable) and others. Kevan Smith looked solid defensively in what little I saw of him.

I'm looking forward to seeing a full season of Jacob Cooper.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) As good as Hansen is, just imagine how much more effective he would be if he learned to throw a cutter to help keep the ball off the barrel of left handed hitters. Don Cooper will certainly take care of that before long.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 06:57 AM) This has been said elsewhere, but it's becoming increasingly clear that Abreu is a good to very-good player, but not a great one. Certainly not the superstar it seemed we had on our hands during his rookie year. Not meant as a dig; he is still on a good deal. His trade value, however, is maybe not as high as we would've expected. Plenty of first basemen out there. Be nice to have him around if they do keep him. He has more trade value than anybody else on this team except for Quintana. Abreu is 30 years old, so I think it's pretty safe to say that his best years are NOT ahead of him. I doubt his trade value will get much higher than it is right now.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) That seems waaaaay high to me. Adding 8 prospects should give you a big jump when a few of them are T100 guys, but not that big of a jump. 6 of those 8 are pitchers. IMO, this system is still quite devoid of position players.

Aroldis Chapman blasts Cubs on way out over World Series use
Donaldo replied to whitesoxjr27's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 01:51 AM) Maddon managed the World Series like a video game and was lucky the Indians were so bad. Talent wise the Indians were one of the worst World Series teams in a long time. I agree that Chapman probably should've kept those comments to himself, but I agree with him. Who puts their CLOSER in the game in the 7th inning with a 5 run lead (especially when he KNEW he'd probably need him the next night)? And you wonder why he was tired in game 7. Hendricks was on cruise control in game 7. It made zero sense to take him out of the game when he did. If Rajai Davis would've had one more baserunner, the Indians would be World Champions. IMO, the Cubs won it IN SPITE of Maddon. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) So, off the top of my head, we have Linebrink, Greg Walker/Scott Fletcher, AJ, Tyler Flowers, Bonifacio, Beckham, Danks all going to ATL after the Sox...who else? Ozzie Guillen.

As soon as the Sox are mathematically eliminated each year, I begin to root for the draft pick.

Interview with Nick Hostetler, Scouting Director

Alec Hansen has some of the greatest facial expressions on the mound... that picture reminds me of Jim Carrey in "The Mask." -
It would be cool to see him make it, even as a reliever (like Cal Eldred did with the Cardinals)

Assessing the White Sox Future and Hawk's Announcing Future
Donaldo replied to The Gooch's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) Benetti doing the Duke/UNLV game with Vitale. And yes, he's asking Vitale a million questions. About 5 years ago, Vitale became a parody of himself. In the past few years he has cut back on some of the "Dickie V" crap and has focused a little more on relevant commentary. IMO, he's tolerable again. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 06:01 PM) Benetti brings out a different side of Steve, but it's just a more arrogant one. That became obvious towards the end of last season. The tone in Steve's voice was unmistakable at times. -
Sounds like he's ready to do some more dealing. http://www.espn.com/espnradio/chicago/play?id=18243328 12/9/16
