I work security at Bridgeview games. Typically at ground level near the field. Crowds, as one may expect, peak on weekends and during high-profile, international matchups. Don't expect much support Wednesday. Even during the summer Wednesdays were a tough draw. Although I'm willing to promote the experience of attending a game and joining "Section 8" behind the goal on the stadiums Northside. It's a fan section consisting of drunks and fire enthusiasts beginning various chants.

I recognize her face only because when I browse Youtube, I'll click the option which broadcasts top videos within a week. Her diaries are frequently listed near the top. Never bothered to watch any of her video diaries, until now. Just finished "Swimming." Don't see what the intrigue is. Girl obviously has emotional problems, as this paritcular videoclip opens up with a wide-eyed expression and details of someone fulfilling a promise of swimming. She, apparently, also takes joy in killing insects with her flip-flops. Daniel --her male companion-- is the equivalent of a gay friend who'll never get with her, but with whom she uses for emotion support and techinal issues re: video production. What's stranger than the girl herself is the responses. People actually create videos to address her. Cheat, have you seen this ? I'd be afraid.

Up until now I was unfamilar with a Stingray's barb. According to an article I recently browsed on Google, it's as "deadly as a rifle bayonet driven into (someones) organs." He may not have been as crazy as Timothy Treadwell, but regardless, both certaintly underestimated the violent nature of their work.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Well next season I hope to god we dont have Mackowiak out there every 2-3 games. It may be beyond Williams to consider such an action, but frankly, he should forcibly instruct Guillen to play Anderson in CF. I suppose these are the downfalls of "player managers." More concerned with intangibles such as clubhouse chemsitry and making people feel comfortable rather than doing whats necessary. Honestly, who the f*** would panic if Mackowiak were removed from CF? Would it cause a mutinity within the team? If Mack himself realizes his downfalls in center, doesn't Guillen realize the entire team likely sees it as well? Someone needs to come forward. Whether its Mackowiak himself, Williams, several veteran players, or whomever; this needs to end. This includes Podsednik's absurd amount of playing time.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Lance Broadway at the concert by chance? Hey, if Broadway ever wants free reign to insult me he should attend a Bridgeview event. There's not a damn thing I can do about verbal insults, unless it becomes physical or my immediate health is at risk. If it is, then I'll whoop Broadways ass without thinking twice.
-
Anyone attend the Kenny Chesney concern yesterday at Bridgeview stadium? I'm interested in your thoughts of the venue. After working two concerts, I can honestly say it's a terrible experience for both patron and employee. I must have been verbally assaulted several hundred times -- of which included 8 death threats to myself and 3 to my mother. Not that it bothered me personally, but hearing insults for three hours straight isn't exactly an ideal situation for working. It was so bad at one point several offduty Chicago Policemen volunteered to assist me. The reason these people were upset -- and I can certaintly understand -- is there were no bathrooms on the concert floor. This area held roughly 10,000 people, and every person had to exit through a narrow isle leading up 30 flights of stairs. When the concert ended, with probably 5,000 pushing each other to the front, I ignored my orders of maintaing two exists and opened several more. These drunks were seriously on the verge of rioting. People were pissed. Someone even threw a sock at me. Seriously, who does that? If anyone is thinking about attending a concert at Bridgeview, I have two warnings: one, avoid seats on the field. Despite their promixity, the discomfort of waiting in bathroom/exit lines severly dampers the experience. Two, be prepared to wait perhaps an hour to exit the stadium. Limited exists, which converge with several parking lots, create a literal bottleneck.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) Come on guys! We still have a half game lead in the wild card. Detroit is not a very good team. They will fall because Kenny Rogers is a bad second half pitcher and Verlander has never pitched more than 130 innings. Our team just hasn't hit their stride yet. Wait till we do! Once we get a good outing from a starting pitcher the rest of them will feed off each other. Actually I think they might have just turned the corner. Jose only gave up 2 ER last night. That's a quality start. The bullpen should start improving soon too. Cotts probably has hit rock bottom so there's only 1 way to go from there, up. I also think the Pods will start to turn things around here soon. Once he starts getting on base he will wreak havoc with his speed and set the table for our other hitters. I am sure Greg Walker is working really closely with the hitters to make sure they get out of this funk where they pull all the time. Once he gets that straightened out watch out! Now I know Ozzie hasn't fielded the best defensive lineups out there this year but how can you question him? He won us a World Series last year for crying out loud! He knows what it will take this year to get another title. Offense is more important this year than defense. Let Ozzie be Ozzie. Grab the Rally Crede because we're winning it all again!!! Lets go Sox!! Exactly. Don't stop believin'. Guillen won't allow this team to go into a funk. Players love him because he continually keeps them lose and ready to play. His lineups, which rarely feature all regulars, are used because our bench is so deep. Allowing players extended rest worked last year. Why couldn't it again? Managing from ones "gut" is definitely an underrated managerial move. It allows oneself never to be questioned. When someone asks, "why'd you do that particular move," all Guillen has to do is hoist his World Series ring and immediately the interviewer will nod his head in approval. Honestly, I'd take our team over anyones in October. Playoff experience is overrated -- expect when used to benefit an argument concerning our team -- then it isn't. These guys know how it is to win it all, and will show their hunger down the stretch. If anyone doesn't believe so, leave now and quit wasting our time!!

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) The Twins are just 5 steps ahead of every other team in the MLB... its really unfair to compare us to them. Because every other team maybe besides the Marlins are probably jealous of the Twins farm system, scouting, and prospects. And if your complaining we arent as good as the Twins in scouting... so are 28-29 other teams as well..... 29 other teams don't have this misfortune of facing Minnesota 18 times a season. They're in our division, thus, it'll remain a comparison until we improve. And you better believe I'll be there every step of the way citing Minnesota's pitchers (among others within our division) and comparing them to ours. I absolutely hate this shoulder shrugging, defeatist attitude. Too bad for us if we're not willing to drastically revamp and update whichever dated methods used to evaluate players. As I've mentioned on numerous occasions, we're going to need VAST improvements from our system within the next 5-7 years for any chance of competing. Minnesota and Detroit's pitching is far superior to ours, and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. What I don't understand is how we're willing to assemble an entire team after Minnesota's pitching/defense philosophy, yet we're not willing to mimmick their scouting patterns? What, are we somehow above that? Is there some secret locked within a safe on which qualities they look for in pitchers? Or position players?

QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) ...(Remember when) we won the World Series last year. That was awesome. If you're pissed about tonight's game against KC, watch 1) Konerko slam 2) Pod's walk-off 3) Uribe crowd catch and 4) final out. It makes me so happy. Ha. Whether intentional or not, the title and first line made me think of Chris Farley's sketch on SNL where he'd interview guests on his talk show. Back to the topic, I'm never using the World Series title as a crutch for failure. Not that it's realistic to expect a title everyyear, but considering the money and resources devoted to this years team, a playoff birth should be anticipated.

Unless Contreras' supposed health issues miraculously right themself, we're not going to reach the playoffs without McCarthy in the rotation. How many starters can we consistently count on a decent pitching performance now? ONE, in Garland? If Williams doesn't atleast try several starts with McCarthy, it's his own damn fault. Fine, no trade deadline moves were made aside from MacDougal; I understand that. But not improving our rotation with a valuable piece from last year is inexcusable. It'll undoubtedly be a topic he'll be criticized for this upcoming offseason. It's frustrating watching this unfold when you consider half the damn board said McCarthy should have been stretched for the rotation around midseason. No matter who McCarthy initially replaced -- whether it was Garcia or Vazquez -- he would have been able to pitch 6+ innings by now if the move were approved in July/Early August.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) Wayne's World=Aurora Besides there can be no vote except for the Blues Brothers The shot of Wayne/Garth traveling past an Indian figure while listening to Bohemian Rhapsody was filmed off 63rd and Pulaski on the South Side of Chicago. Indians is still there, actually. So, yeah, it counts as Chicago because of that one clip. Of the movies listed, I'd have to say Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Not that I enjoyed the movie more than the other choices, but it did well highlighting Chicago's cultural landmarks. My favorite movies with obvious Chicago set locations is probably Primal Fear and Candyman (Filmed on UIC's campus)

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 07:20 AM) Ok 5 years from now a future rotation of; Garland Buehrle McCarthy Broadway FA or McCullough You could swap Buehrle with a FA as well. I realize these are merely your projections, but if reality were to mirror this rotation five years from now, we're in trouble. Still won't match up against Detroit or Minnesota. Need to do better than this. Even though Santana will likely be gone (no way in hell he's signing under market value again), Liriano and Garza are a formidable 1/2. Detroit would still have Miller/Verlander/Sanchez. One problem, I doubt we'll sign Garland to another extension beyond the current 3 year/29 million dollar deal. If he's producing at the end of the contract, I guarantee Garland is seeking another long-term deal beyond the figures of 29/3. Considering his age around the date of the current deals completion (29/30), he may believe there's one last big-payday remaining. I'm not paying an inflated price for Garland unless he's pitching second half numbers, or 2005 totals, over an entire season. Again. Still several years to assess his true value, though. Buehrle? The remainder of this season and next year will determine his future. Pitch anywhere similar to June/July and he can waste someone elses money. You know, it'd be really easy if someone merely overpaid for Garcia next offseason. Gave us their best pitching prospect. Some other team always seems to be the benefit of these deals, but never us. Where's the psuedo Kenny Williams willing to overpay out there?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 06:40 AM) So in essence, we're in a division that just has 3 teams that know how to develop good young pitching. But as the teams in the A.L East, it's actually not that easy to do. You just need to have the right plan in terms of your drafts etc. and make sure to develop them properly when they come through. I consider B-Mac to be a future #2-#3 starter, if he can show what he did in the 2nd half of last season. Who knows what Broadway and McCullough will do in the future, it's far too early to say, no they're not good enough to be really good in the MLB. So, how exactly will our future rotations match up against those within our division? Looking at what's available now and in the immediate future, convince me we're on a similar level as Minnesota and Detroit. You can't. This is ultimately my concern. Unless we're able to become the fourth team within the division capable of devleoping pitching, we're going to be f***ed for an extended period of time.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 05:30 AM) In FA probably not. But you know Kenny, he'll make a deal to upgrade our rotation if he can. Broadway can be an innings eater, a #4 - #5 starter type of guy. I assume McCullough will be that as well, when he'll probably start next season at B-Ham. So with B-Mac as well, that's 3 fairly young guys you could see in the rotation over the next say 3 or 4 years. You just need to keep developing it, and find those top notch guys to fill our your rotation. I wish Kenny would abandon such deals in the future. Want a front line starter? Develop one. Light a fire under the asses of those supposed "scouts" working in Latin American who haven't done s*** since Ordonez and Lee. See how they perform when there's actual pressure applied from management. I'm not very confident with McCullough/Broadway rounding out a rotation. If those two and McCarthy are future starters, then there damn well better be another stud pitcher. Look at it this way -- how do any of those three match up against their future counterparts in Minnesota and Detroit? I'm not anticipaing any dynasties with such a trio.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) It sucks so bad having a UNC player on the Tigers. Especially one as talented as Miller. That rotation is going to be absolutely nasty for years to come. As will the Twins. Which is why I'll continue to set ridiculous demands upon our minor league system. You have Garza/Santana/Liriano on one team, Verlander/Bonderman/Miller on another -- as well as good pitching prospects in the minors of both teams -- success from ours is crucial. I will no shrug my shoulders or simply say, "everyteam would want a (insert pitcher)" We NEED strong starting pitching to compete with these rotations. It's necessary; because as I see it, this current rotation we're throwing out doesn't bode well when matched up with division rivals. Lance Broadway alone won't cut it. Lumsden would have been nice to atleast be given an opportunity. But you know, we gave him to a f***ING TEAM WITHIN OUR DIVISION! Another front line starter will have to emerge if we're realistically going to contend for the unforseeable future. I believe it comes down to that. Even with a high payroll, and a potential rotation of McCarthy/Broadway, does anyone see us signing long-term deals for quality pitchers?

Hendry Helping Tigers and Twins
Flash Tizzle replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) First its Neifi Perez to the Tigers when Placido Polanco went down with an injury . Now its Phil Nevin to the Twins. Is this the Tribune Co. trying to protect its investment by sabotaging the Sox chances by sending players to our rivals to make the playoffs? If such a conspiracy were true, Hendry couldn't even do that right. Possible sabotage of our playoff chances isn't what springs to mind with Neifi Perez and Phil Nevin entering the ALC. Neither had much of a futre in the Cubs organization. When you consider the playoff race is tight among Minnesota, Detroit, and us, it's not unexpected for contenders to search for upgrades wherever they're available. Hendry needs to unload dead weight, and teams within our division happen to need certain role players. If Zambrano were traded for practically nothing you may an argument. Still would be wrong, but it would atleast hold more validity than these current scenarios. -
