Even with a high payroll, and a potential rotation of McCarthy/Broadway, does anyone see us signing long-term deals for quality pitchers?

Anyone else watch the ESPN's introduction to the Tigers/Yankees game? I felt like vomiting with rage after the literal cheerleading for Derek Jeter as MVP. One of the announcers says, "as the season goes on, it looks more and more clear Derek Jeter is the MVP." It does? Apparently, Dye's accomplishments are ignored by half of the East Coast. I have no problem annointing the more deserving candidate MVP. But REGARDLESS of ridiculous intangibles such as "picking up teammates following Matsui and Sheffield leaving" or making a jump/flip to 1st base, the statistics should determine the true winner. These two announcers are slurping him to an almost shameful degree. Nothing I would love more than Jeter to go through a huge September slump. I'm looking for a situation where Jeter/Dye are compared on ESPN, and every category benefits Dye. Then I can laugh when someone says Jeter still deserves it.

What I remember from this particular system is last year, AFTER the division was clinched, their playoff projections putting us at a 97% of winning the division. This wasn't a mistake either. What made it funnier is someone, can't recall the exact authors name, said (paraphrasing) "just because the White Sox have supposedly clinched doesn't mean it's correct." It was ridiculous, lol.

I wonder if anyone is willing to compare such an action to psychological torture? No need for green, either.

And you all know what's best about tomorrows game? Mark Buehrle is the pitcher responsible for avoiding a sweed, avoiding a 2/12 game deficit in the Wild Card, and avoiding an EMBARRASING three game sweep at home during a crucial stretch of baseball. Knowing how these games have progressed, I'm sre a loss will occur in the most excruciating way possible.

McCarthy's 5 innings of work this evening has made an impression upon me. I say with more certaintly now than previous posts he's been throwing side sessions. Would it make sense for McCarthy not to pitch for nearly a week, then 2 innings August 22, then 5+innings (63 pitches) four days later? If this is mere coincidence brought on by Contreras' ineffectiveness, it's an indictment on management for pushing Brandon following supposed "shoulder tightness."

Unless we're having a few Lirianos or Garza emerge, overpaying for pitching on the market, or trading prospects for starters, the next several years aren't going to be pretty IMO. World Series success may extend another few seasons. I wouldn't worry about such an immediate dropoff in fan appeal. Don't buy into the "smartball" success. It was solely our starting pitching which carried our ballclub through the season/playoffs. Without pitching? We're not last years team, and certaintly not a World Series winner.
