  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:13 PM) Correct. Currently only a few keepers. This is why they need to be patient and continue to make good trades and short term FAs. This way can have good teams until they can produce better players. They won't survive a total strip down like the Cubs. How do you know they wouldn't survive a strip down? That is what irritates me so much, this defeatist attitude of accepting mediocrity and "going for it" (meanwhile we're at best a .500 team) based upon the same f***ing system that hasn't led us anywhere since 2008! I was all in support of rebuilding this offseason, but after trading for Frazier and Lawrie (which were both good deals) we almost had to sign one of Gordon, Upton or Cespedes to add another legitimate mid-order bat. Whatever excuse there is, thus far we've failed. Improving to .500 and wasting yet another season of our starting pitching is a disgrace. If you're going to go for it......gor for it all the way. How are we going to acquire a middle of the order bat next offseason with slim pickings?
  2. Absolutely ridiculous not to give Montas atleast a full season worth of innings as a starter in AAA before deciding his role. If we're lucky to have both Fulmer and Montas ready to start for 2017 we'll be in a tremendous position to trade one or more starters. Next years FA SP market is abysmal.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) Unfortunately, I agree with you. Looks like a top 5 draft pick in 2017. I'd say between 10-15 for a draft pick. It's just maddening because they won't spend the money for elite talent, or trade Quintana for an elite package -- so even with Lawrie (and realistically two, second/third tier options) we'll be perhaps in contention for a wild card. IF everything goes right considering our position in the standings.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) i really don't like it, too much for frazier and you really need a additional sp. just my thoughts. We're going to have to deal two of Anderson/Fulmer/Montas as a start for either Frazier or Gonzalez.
  5. From ESPN: They sure as hell better not be done with that outfield.
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) I don't have any confidence that they'll spend this year. Maybe they'll shell out a few dollars next year but that still won't make us the favorites to win anything. We might as well trade Sale, Quintana and Abreu then. If we're not going to compete then why hold on to them? They'll trade them too late before too early, every player you mentioned.
  7. I'd still confidently say we're better than the Tigers. However, every other ALC team is better positioned than us to compete. All of these minor moves may have us projected to win a few more games, but we're STILL not in any better position to win our division. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather Hahn not just assemble a team maybe, if everything goes right, they'll earn the second WC and once in: "anything can happen." Enough with assembling a collection of players, assemble a f***ing team; one capable of sustained success. If Hahn is going to keep Quintana, Rodon and Sale entact, he has to sign Upton or Cespedes. Even with either, we're still going to win less than 90 games if everything goes right. But atleast you're taking advantage of a tremendous rotation with a significant offensive upgrade
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) This is what I mean. In the late 90's and 2000s the sox had one of the highest winning percaentages in baseball. Fans didnt go because thet werent in the playoffs. If the sox consistently nake the playoffs, fans wont go because they didnt win the world series often enough. I hafe season tickets because I enjoy baseball, live closer to the ballpark and enjoy the ballpark. Problem is, you have no comparison to draw off of. If the Sox consistently make the playoffs (which should mean at the minimum three years in a row), I'd guarantee they'd be drawing fans.
  9. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) Also, for those of you who want a full rebuild to replicate the Cubs' path, remember that they are where they are right now partly due to a couple lopsided trades (Rizzo, Russell), a pitcher coming out of nowhere to become a top 5 pitcher, and spending almost half a billion dollars in two offseasons in free agency. We'd never be able to do all that. It needs to start with a few lopsided, franchise altering trades. That's Hahn's responsibility. Lawrie type of deals are great but we're only moving the needle a little bit. Yes, I know, every team is looking for that -- but yet every offseason there's a lopsided trade or two and I always hear how it can bever happen with the Sox. Or some other excuse that says it was the perfect set of circumstances. Hahn should have been shopping Quintana from Day 1 of the Winter Meetings. Now, more so. We're not getting our star OF through FA....it's going to be through drafting (HAHA) or trade. I think everyone expecting Upton or Cespedes is going to be disappointed. I read on South Side Sox the White Sox offered Laroche to Pittsburgh with us picking up 8million.....and they declined. We're trying to collect as much money as possible for the big FA push but I feel like we're near our salary limit and someone else has to go
  10. I'm one of those typically negative posters here and I'll say this: I'm happy with Hahn and this move! The package was nowhere near what I would have expected. I'm glad to have Lawrie and am very excited bow for whats forthcoming
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) Subscribe to my theory that the original story was a plant. It's devious but kind of funny to think Oakland and the White Sox were working with each other. Like Oakland was trying to drum up interest in Lawrie and Hahn sought to lower demands on Frazier. I don't know if I'd believe it but yes.....i'll subscribe to your theory
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:38 PM) I predict they'll sign Freese or Desmond and call it a winter. Lol, not that I'm doubting you it's just a White Sox move to throw money at those two for maybe enough of an offensive upgrade to finish at .500
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) With that I say nothing gets done this week. This week alone isn't significant as a bench mark but we cannot be sitting idle for long. Too much needs to be done with this team and the point is trading for/acquiring the pieces while the most players are available and teams have positions needing to be filled.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Wonder if David Murphy for 3rd base starts to become an option with Walker going to the Mets? I sure as hell hope not. Murphy is going to get a 4-5 year deal somewhere, hopefully not for the White Sox
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) I'd rather do that then give up anything of remote value for Lawrie. If A.Cabrera is asking for more than 2 years (which he may be) I'd pass on him too.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) It makes sense to me if they want to be "in", they want to get all of their ducks in a row before pulling them off. I'm hoping part of that is dealing LaRoche (even it means eating 6-7 million). If we can save even 7 million I'm sure it'll be used right away for another FA.
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) @JoeFrisaro For #Dodgers to land Jose Fernandez from #Marlins hearing it would take Urias, Seager, Pederson and two more. #WinterMeetings Good luck with that Marlins. That's where Hahn creeps from the shadows and says Urias, Seager, Pederson for Quintana now and undercuts the Marlins
  18. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 12s12 seconds ago Source on Brett Lawrie-to-White Sox rumors: "Not done." So there's that. Oakland is probably just waiting for us to fold to their demands. If it's too much (and it must be if Hahn isn't agreeing) then as Lord Humungous says, just walk away
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) Always seem to be the case with the White Sox. As soon as we have a val;uable fit to sell, we are told the market isn't good and we can't get anything for them. Then a comparable pitcher gets sold for a huge haul, and we're told that deal doesn't exist anymore. No kidding, you can include the classic Q would be undervalued because he's not nationally recognized line, or Sale is untradeable because he'll command too much and thus.....is untradeable. Peopke say it never happens, but that's not true. It just doesn't happen to benefit our team. Hahn just needs that ONE franchise altering trade; that one deal we're not giving fair value. Because these little moves aren't going to cut it. We need a definite push forward, our own Miller trade. I don't believe for a second Hahn even as much as talked with Arizona the last few days. Or SF or LA for that matter. We're too concerned with unloading LaRoche and acquiring Lawrie to do anything else
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:38 AM) How many times do you think he'll be called "Lowrie" by posters or Sox beat writers? Well maybe we'll see the White Sox trade for Lowrie instead of Lawrie. Then atleast we'll know KW is still running the show
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) right now, montas and other prospects are a gamble.... until they make it to the bigs, no one know how they will develop. however this team is in a desperate condition with now help coming in key position. You must general manage the Diamondbacks
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) Montas to the A's? Maybe the next Frank De Los Santos? I really have no idea how to speculate on the package for both Lawrie and Reddick but I don't think your idea is far off and sounds pretty close to me. A defensive OF of Eaton LF, Thompson CF and Reddick RF sounds really good to me. Huge upgrade over last season. if we're talking Reddick AND Lawrie, it freightens me to think of a package. Dealing for TWO major league starters is going to cost us atleast Montas and Anderson. That's a steep price to pay for me
  23. From ESPN: Hahn should be there in contact with Los Angeles this whole process about Quintana
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:31 AM) Just can't pay much for this stopgap 3b. A mediocre prospect and one of the several mediocre bullpen pitchers. as need pen help. I don't think he'd be a stop-gap if he's producing around his career marks. Someone like Saladino at SS is a stop-gap if I've ever seen one. Or Sanchez at 2B. Even though I wouldn't be surprised to hear of A. Cabrera signing with the Sox after Lawrie is traded for.....
  25. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:00 AM) Is it just me or does Lawrie scream mediocre 3B? I don't know about giving up anything significant for him. We can go sign an Asian 3B. Keep the prospects. That's our reality though, which is mediocre/replacement level production at 3B is an upgrade. The problem though becomes our offense was so woeful that marginally improving positions like 3B and C with such players doesn't really improve our standing within a tough American League Central. We've said time and time again there needs to be another significant, 4+ WAR potential bat in the lineup aside from Eaton and Abreu. I'd be fine with Upton, but given the contract he'd command and our limited payroll it's not likely. Someone with value like Quintana should be shopped for a package on par with Atlanta received from Arizona
