The Sale Trade
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) You guys all love the Sale trade. A small percentage of us Sox fans think Sale and Q were a pretty potent 1-2 to head a pitching rotation and only a lousy manager in Robin prevented some pretty good success. We had some pretty good ballplayers on paper during the Sale/Q era. Hopefully the Sale trade will fuel a nice rebuild; we shall see. Ready to eat some crow greg?

The Sale Trade
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) My question is this- will a more VALUABLE player ever be traded? Basically the best pitcher in the game who is lefty, in his prime, locked up on a ridiculously cheap deal. Has the bar forever been set? Will a team ever have to offer more than the #1 position prospect and the arguably best pitching prospect? I feel like this deal may never be eclipsed based on value, right or wrong. Was the bar set low or high? We offered the future #1 prospect for James shields

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
They really need a handshake deal with him to promise a big future contract

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) There is plenty of reason for them to "tank" next year, but not to this extent. A top 10 pick gives them protection for the following offseason, and that offseason is going to be a hell of a lot more important for them in the long run than this offseason. They will not be investing in much of anything as far as free agents go this year, but I could absolutely see the purse strings open up quite a bit following 2018. They are looking at maybe $40 million in commitments beyond the 2018 season, and that's if they keep everyone they currently have. They could easily trade Shields ($2 million buyout), Jones ($4.65 mill option, $1.25 mill buyout), and maybe Abreu (~$13 million) and Avisail (~$7 mill), while Rodon may not get the number I figured for him ($6 mill). Their payroll was like $150 million just a few years ago (B-R shows $170 million, but I don't recall the kickbacks from other teams, and that number seems high). They'll have money to spend. The Sox have been 26-27 in their last 53 games. Add in Kopech and eloy, and thus team competes for the 2nd wild card next year.

10/1 White Sox at Indians
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Sigh, last game. Bummer. More importantly, it's Hawk's last game. One of the reasons I plugged the cable back into my TV this year was to hear Hawk call games in his last season. I got tired of the Hawkisms and his chronic complaining of the umps years ago but I respect the f*** out if his White Sox fandom and am lucky enough to have been there the whole way since he started calling games for the Sox. I consider myself to be a very lucky Sox fan. One more time today Hawk, let all the Hawkisms fly!!! Awe hell, do what you've always wanted to do and let a few cuss words out, f*** it! and go Hawk! He will be back next year

Rodon has minor shoulder surgery
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 11:31 PM) Man this is bad bad news. He could be out til summertime. It's sad how pitchers nowadays just can't avoid surgery. This game is brutal on the pitchers' arms. PTATC why all the injuries compared to the 60s and 70s and 80s? Baseball's are heavier now compared to back then.

Rodon has minor shoulder surgery
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Do I do it? Yeah I'm doing it. Anyway, counting on Rodon to contribute to the next White Sox competitive team right now is a gamble. Hopefully between Fulmer and Rodon we can at least get 1 starting pitcher out of those 2 drafts. I wonder if Rodon might be able to pull things together out of the bullpen, that slider might be really effective in short bursts. Lolll thank you. DA brings up my one wrong prediction on abreu anytime I best him in an argument. Payback.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) That's the thing though...they had the draft position to take both and took neither. It just goes to show that it isn't necessarily whether you choose 1 or 3, you may end up getting the player you wanted anyway. The Sox claim they had Collins as their #1 prospect two years ago and got him at 11. Yeah, I don't buy the Collins thing. Maybe they meant #1 given their draft position, but if they had the #1 pick, they wouldn't be picking him.

How do we solve our K/BB epidemic?

Jose Abreu accomplishment thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) I read where the Cuban league is A ball or maybe AA. Plus he was adjusting his entire life in a new country without his family. He was only the 3rd player ever. Others have come from other countries, and he's the first to do that. It is a big accomplishment. If its such a technicality how come no other foreign player has done it? How many other countries refuse to allow their players to come to the US? The guy was basically forced to stay until he hit his prime years, then he defected. Only situations that come to mind really are Jose Abreu and Arvydas Sabonis.

Cool I guess. The RBI is a nearly worthless stat though. Jose also came into the league older and more experience. Jose has been a solid player though. Props

Another season almost gone and I will miss it.
As much as I miss baseball and tracking the minors, I miss the busy season in these forums. Its always a lot slower in the off-season, and understandably so. I don't get as much knowledge and content from the baseball minds in here that know way more about the game than I do. AFL and winter meetings usually provide some entertainment.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (Chisoxmb35 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:51 AM) This was the correct answer before the thread creator even hit "send". The only two options when creating a thread are "Post New Topic" and "Preview Post" there is no "send" option.

This will be tricky when we draft Hankins with our 1st pick this year

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) Open letter to the Chicago Bulls "Joakim Noah the hardest worker in a long time." Yeah, ok. The guy who constantly came into camp out of shape. The guy who never added ANYTHING to his game? He relied purely on athleticism and on court effort. That is why his game tanked so hard when he lost athleticism. He tried as hard as anybody while on the court. I'll give him that. But joe was not a hard worker.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Add in Giolito pitching well. Hell, even Fulmer (who I really hope makes me eat crow) has had some good outings. Very much happy with the progress being made. As good as fulmers numbers have looked, I don't have faith in him. He'll be lucky to be a successful reliever. Id love for him to make me eat crow, but I don't forsee that happening.
