If Twins play good baseball this weekend, Cleveland's pen is going to be extremely worn out for our series next week, while our pen should be quite rested coming off three in Detroit and an off day.

I had never been to Cleveland prior to visiting with my dad for the series the Sox clinched late last season with my dad. It was measurably better than I anticipated. Frankly, I enjoyed it alot. Good restaurants, nice hotel options nearby the park, downtown casino, very walkable, we felt very safe, nice fans. I think Cleveland gets a bad rap.

No Robert today in biggest game of the year. He shouldn't be playing based on his recent ABs, but still. So frustrating.

That Guardians pen is gonna be pretty damn taxed for that series next week. In the event that Sox are still within 4 games come Tuesday, there should be some intrigue.

No, Cleveland ending with 6 against KC is in fact not favorable. You also conveniently left out the 3 vs. Rays who will be playing for HFA. In any event, the Sox are very clearly in an awful situation. There is no debating that. They need to be within 1 game a week from Sunday or all hope is lost. Thankfully we get 4 games against Cleveland and 6 against an awful Tigers team during that span. we've been saying it for months, but now its really now or never time.

8-2 probably keeps you alive. Over the same time frame the Guardians play Sox 4x, Twins 5x, and Texas 3 times. Meanwhile Sox get Guardians 4x, and the lowly Tigers who they've owned this year 6x. Assume Guardians go: 1-3 vs. Sox, 3-2 vs. Twins, and 2-1 vs Guardians Sox would be 81-72 with 9 to play. Guardians 82-71 with the same to play. 1 game back, but 2 with the tie breaker. Possible, but would need major help from the Rays, and more specifically, the Royals. Definitely possible Guardians do worse than 5-3 against the Twins and Rangers, though. Ultimately, Sox at a minimum need to win the next 4 and then see where things sit going into the 3 game series vs. Cleveland next week. If you win the next 4, they still would control their own destiny.

I think Engel probably gets non-tendered. Sox are going to need to be crafty around the edges as they only have about $30M to spend on the 2023 roster and ~18-$20M of that should go to 1 player, and we're going to need a 5th SP as well. Cespedes for Engel as the 4th/5th OF saves ~$3M.

Curious decision, to be sure. Sox seem to benefit, for now. Will be curious to see their reasoning that the beat writer alluded to.

Clase has pitched in 5 of this last 6 games and 8/10. That is definitely unsustainable. I was referring to lately, which is far more relevant than what happened early in the season at this juncture.

Big 6'6 righty with a 4.24 ERA across 21 starts in AA/AAA this season. 11.7 K/9, 1.13 WHIP. Made one previous start for the Guardians this year pitching 3.1 with 8 ER (2 K / 2 BB) against Houston in early August.

If they aren't going to play Robert, they need to get Payton the MLB roster and let him back 8th or 9th. I understand Hahn's take on not ILing Robert. You don't want to lose him for 10 days if he only needs 5. But yeah, he's just not useful at the plate right now. Really no one on the roster to cut/option though if you're not ILing Robert.

Alternatively, doing everything we can to minimize Eloy's injuries makes sense. Not letting him play the OF does just that. We also avoid Eloy getting in the way of Robert, TA and Moncada defensively and hurting them, too. Eloy is perhaps a marginally better OF than AV. But he's not good. Sox need him in the middle of the lineup hitting homers and driving in runs. Even moreso next season when one of Pito/AV are gone. Sox need to to flank Robert with real OFs next season. Sign a RF (Nimmo makes most sense), let Pollock play LF until Colas arrives a month or so into the season, and then platoon the two thereafter. Pollock then becomes injury insurance for all of the OF, and Sheets is in AAA waiting for Eloy to get hurt. All of Eloy, AV and Sheets should only play the OF occasionally after this season.

40% of Cleveland’s current rotation is Konnor Pilkington and Cody Morris. McKenzie has already eclipsed his career high in IP by 25 innings, and Quantrill has also passed his career high already and made 18 pen appearances last year. So yes, Cleveland is very much in that spot already, Not soon. Not to mention Francona is using his best pen arms nearly every night which also isn’t sustainable.
